Wolves predicted line up against Besiktas in the Europa League

Wolverhampton Wanderers return to Europa League action tonight as they host Besiktas at Molineux in the final group game of this campaign.

The tie can pretty much be regarded as a dead-rubber because the west Midlanders have already qualified for the knockout stages while the Turkish outfit cannot progress regardless of any possible outcome.

Besiktas boss Abdullah Avci is set to rest several of his key players according to beIN SPORTS Turkey, but will Nuno Santo follow suit?

He’ll need to better SC Braga’s result to top the group, but there’s no guaranteeing that the Portuguese outfit field a weaker team either.

Wolves defeated the Black Eagles 1-0 to opened their Group K proceedings back in October.

Here’s how they may line up this time around:

As Football FanCast have already revealed this week, it would be a rather wise move for Nuno to rest some of his key players given just how many games they have played and will eventually play this season.

Only Romain Saiss could keep his place amongst the starting line up with ten changes expected, three of which are young prospects from the academy.

Oskar Burr, a right wing-back, Taylor Perry and Chem Campbell are all handed starts in place of Matt Doherty, Joao Moutinho and Adama Traore, who are all in need of rest having played 22 or more matches already this campaign.

The other seven changes are all either fringe first-team players or have recently been out injured meaning skipper Conor Coady is handed a break, so the back three is likely to be Max Kilman, Jesus Vallejo and Ryan Bennett. They’ll be in front of John Ruddy rather than Rui Patricio.

Perry and Saiss partner each other in central midfield while Pedro Neto is handed a rare start next to Campbell and West Ham hero Patrick Cutrone in the attack.

Sunderland fans are unhappy that Stewart Donald has pulled out of fans meeting

Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has withdrawn from a talk-in meeting with fans, leaving many supporters outraged.

Instead, the evening will be chaired by executive director Charlie Methven and club legend Kevin Ball, who will oversee discussion relating to the recent investment by the American consortium.

When Donald first took over he was quite vocal, communicating online with supporters and outlining the reasons behind decision-making, but subsequent criticism and abuse has forced him away, and now it is possible it has put him off face-to-face discourse too.

For some amongst the Sunderland faithful his action is a reminder of the previous chairman, Ellis Short, who also hid away when things weren’t going well.

It is a bad sign for fans, therefore, as his tenure ended in disaster in the form of back-to-back relegations.

The current owner may be unhappy with how the fans are treating him but he is doing himself no favours by backing out of the evening, as it has led to further criticism, as evidenced by the reactions below.

Manchester United: Some fans wish Victor Lindelof would leave and join Jose Mourinho’s next team

Manchester United go into the international break sitting in seventh place, nine points off Manchester City in fourth. and it proves they’ve hardly moved forward since they sacked Jose Mourinho last December. This time last year they sat in eighth, but were seven points behind the top four.

Victor Lindelof was signed by Jose Mourinho and has taken to the media to praise him this week, saying to Aftonbladet (via Metro): “He is one of the world’s best coaches and he is supposed to have a job at one of the biggest clubs. I miss him in football. He’s a great coach and a great person, whom I owe a great deal. It was he who gave me the chance here.”

The centre-back has been a mainstay in the United’s line-up so far this season, starting 11 games in the league. However, even with Harry Maguire in the side, they’ve managed just two clean sheets so far this season. Fans saw Lindelof’s comments when United news aggregator Utd Xtra posted them on their Twitter account, and the reaction wasn’t all positive. Some fans clearly believe the 25-year-old isn’t good enough for their club and that his comments on Mourinho aren’t accurate.

Man City star Raheem Sterling hailed by Garth Crooks for defensive contribution

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Raheem Sterling was included in Garth Crooks’ Team of the Week after his display against Crystal Palace and the BBC Sport pundit praised the Englishman for one particularly outstanding defensive moment.

What did he say?

Sterling had a helping hand in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over the Eagles, providing a sumptuous assist for David Silva’s killer second goal, but it wasn’t only his creative ingenuity that caught Crooks’ eye.

The former Liverpool man has bagged 41 Premier League goals for City over the past two years, which includes the six in eight games he has this campaign.

However, Crooks took the time out to praise Sterling for his defensive abilities: “I can’t remember a game where Raheem Sterling made such an impression without scoring. If ever anyone needed reminding just how much Sterling’s game has progressed under the watchful eye on Pep Guardiola then this was it.

“The way he chased back 40 yards and dispossessed Wilfried Zaha with the most exquisite slide tackle prior to setting up City’s next attack was sensational. Sterling is creeping ever closer to taking Cristiano Ronaldo’s mantle.

“A special performance in a Champions League win might do it.”

Guardiola’s complete package

Few players in world football have seen such an astonishing improvement over the last few seasons than Sterling has under Guardiola. The Spaniard has helped turn the forward into the complete player, scoring a multitude of high quality goals and blossoming into one of City and England’s most integral players.

And as was evident in the Palace game, he is proving to be a defensive asset as well.

Having scored 78 times now for City, Sterling has certainly established himself as one of the world’s best and proven to be one of the club’s main players in their record-breaking era.

Defensively, the 24-year-old made two tackles and completed two interceptions at Selhurst Park, which included that magnificent dart back to stop Zaha. In the same game, he also made three key passes and hit the woodwork once, proving to be a handful both in defence and attack.

If Sterling continues in this manner with goals and defensive work, his name could be thrown into the Ballon d’Or mix as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo edge into the twilight of their respective careers.

The City superstar was included in the 55-man shortlist for the FIFPro World XI, but did not make the cut in the end. However, if these incredible performances continue, he may rocket to the top of the awards sooner rather than later.

Liverpool icon Riise reacts to Robertson’s goal on Twitter

Andy Robertson finally scored for Liverpool on Wednesday evening. His strike against Red Bull Salzburg was only his second goal since joining the Anfield outfit.Watch Liverpool Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

That is a rather disappointing return for a left-back who gets forward so much, and Liverpool are a club who know all about goalscoring left-backs.

John Arne Riise was a classic example of a full-back who could find the back of the net, as he scored 31 goals for Liverpool during his time with the Reds.

The Norwegian took to Twitter after seeing Robertson score for the first time since the 2017/18 season, and he had one piece of criticism for the Scotland captain.

Riise was glad to see Robertson scoring, but he seemingly wasn’t too pleased about the manner of the goal.

The 39-year-old was renowned for his powerful long-range strikes while playing for Liverpool, and he seemed a bit disappointed by the fact Robertson hadn’t scored in the same fashion.

Hopefully, the Scot can start scoring on a more regular basis from here on out, and for Riise’s sake we hope he bangs in a screamer sooner rather than later.

Arsenal want to bring Donyell Malen back to the Emirates Stadium

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Mirror, Arsenal are interested in bring Donyell Malen back to the Emirates Stadium.

What’s the story?

It has been an impressive start to the season for Malen. The 2o-year-old Netherlands international has scored 10 goals in his first 13 matches for PSV Eindhoven as the Dutch team sit third in the Eredivisie with two games in hand on leaders Vitesse Arnhem.

The forward has thus attracted some attention from clubs around Europe, including the Gunners. They are said to be monitoring the youngster, currently valued at £50m.

Would represent poor business

The stats show that Malen is going through a purple patch right now. He is the top scorer in the league, and his first two caps for the Oranje are recognition of his recent displays.

However, Arsenal signing the youngster would represent incredibly poor business, and would show that the Emirates outfit’s hierarchy really have learned anything from previous mistakes.

Two years ago, the striker left the Gunners to move back to his homeland for just £500,000, which means that PSV are expecting a fee 100 times higher than that. Yes, he may have enjoyed an impressive couple of months so far this term, but that does not mean his services can demand such a hefty price.

Also, Unai Emery does not need to add another striker to his squad. He already has arguably one of the best in world football, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, at his disposal, whilst Alexandre Lacazette is also a star forward who has two goals in two starts in the Premier League this term.

The problem the former Sevilla boss has is at the other end of the pitch. Some of the defensive performances from his side so far this season have been hard to watch. Against Watford, for example, the north Londoners were outplayed in the second half and conceded a huge 31 shots. David Luiz has done little to shore up the backline since joining from Chelsea, and the whole back four continues to look shaky.

It is a problem they have suffered from for a while. In the last three full campaigns, no side in the top six has shipped more than the Gunners. Quite frankly, that is not good enough, and it needs solving soon. Forget spending a fortune on a player deemed not good enough just 24 months ago. Splash the cash on a top-class defender who can finally end their defensive woes.

Crystal Palace fans delighted as Eagles climb into top four

Crystal Palace fans have been left delighted by their climb into the top four.

Roy Hodgson’s men beat West Ham United 2-1 at the London Stadium, as they came from behind in east London.

Sebastien Haller gave the Irons the lead but Patrick van Aanholt equalised from the penalty spot after Declan Rice was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area.

Jordan Ayew gave the Eagles all three points with a late strike, despite initially seeing it ruled out for offside. VAR stepped in and allowed the goal.

The result moved Palace into the top four prior to Arsenal’s clash with Bournemouth on Sunday.

And fans were delighted with the display and the prospect of playing European football next season.

Of course, there remain 30 games of the season, with 90 points for each team to play for.

However, that has not stopped supporters getting carried away; they have lost just twice this term.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

Max Meyer has few excuses for failing to excite in Palace’s clash with Colchester

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

For the most part of his Crystal Palace career, Max Meyer has been deployed on the left flank by Roy Hodgson, a position that doesn’t suit his qualities to say the least – the former England boss has already played him on the left twice this season.

The Germany international lacks pace, strength and that burst to get away from full-backs on the wing, but his low centre of gravity and close control suggest he’d be better suited to playing in the middle.

Against League Two side Colchester in the Carabao Cup game on Tuesday, however, the former Schalke playmaker had a chance to prove himself in the middle against an opponent who he really should’ve been standing out against.

With all due respect to Colchester, who impressively won the tie on penalties after holding the Eagles to a 0-0 draw in normal time, a player of Meyer’s pedigree should be having an impact against a League Two side, but he disappointed again despite spending most of the game in the middle of the pitch.

Meyer’s heat-map from the game shows that the 23-year-old spent a lot of time in a centre-attacking midfield role, but his stats do not make for good reading.

You could somewhat excuse his lack of impact in the Premier League – he has just one goal and two assists in the league since signing – on the basis of his mishandling, the quality of the opposition and the fact that he is still adjusting to the pace of the division.

Against Colchester, though, Meyer’s numbers were poor: Zero shots, zero key passes, two offsides and one unsuccessful touch, as well as being dispossessed three times. This does not reflect well on the German.

He has few excuses for being so ineffective against a League Two side, at home, in a position he is well-suited to.

Everton’s Djibril Sidibe shares first Instagram photos in his new kit

[ad_pod ]

And now it is finally official – Djibril Sidibe has joined Everton on loan from Monaco for the entirety of the 2019/20 Premier League season.

The Blues also have an option to buy the right-back once his initial stint at the club comes to an end.

Sidibe was Everton’s sixth signing of the summer at the time of writing, joining the newcomers who, so far, consist of Jonas Lossl, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and Moise Kean.

Rumours suggest that Marcos Rojo could arrive at Goodison by the end of the transfer deadline.

The 27-year-old defender has immediately taken to

/B04OtO9BTdv/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link” data-lasso->Instagram to share the first snaps in his new colours.

And naturally, it didn’t take long for the Frenchman to get swarmed by his friends and other stars, who wished him all the best in the future and sent their regards on his new journey.

Thomas Lemar sent his well wishes by saying “congratulations my darling”, while Germany U21 international Benny Henrichs and Monaco youngster Jordi Mboula also responded.

Sidibe will no doubt bring a lot of experience and quality to his new side.

The Frenchman has already won the World Cup with his nation in Russia last year and has contributed directly to 27 goals, scoring six and assisting 21 in 114 games in all competitions for Monaco.
