Tom Moody on Sunrisers' dream fast-bowling line-up: 'You should be able to take wickets in all phases of the innings'

The Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach talks about Umran Malik, how the side ended up building an Indian bowling core, and more

Interview by Shashank Kishore05-May-2022After successive losses at the start of their IPL 2022 campaign, Sunrisers Hyderabad went on a five-match winning run. Unlike teams who have built their unit around batting, Sunrisers have a pedigreed bowling attack, largely Indian. Tom Moody, their head coach, who has been with the side for much of their journey in the IPL, explains what has gone into the making of their attack.Over the years, Sunrisers’ fast bowling core has largely been Indian. Has that been one of the big focus areas?
A lot of people have recognised over the years in T20 cricket that the 120 balls you defend are absolutely vital. I’ve always had the philosophy of making sure you should have the ability to take wickets in all three phases of your innings. With that in mind, ideally it’s nice to be able to secure Indian talent to fulfil those roles.Like for any specific role in the squad, you need to look at the supply and demand of what is available and make your judgement under pressure on auction day. So for us, having the familiarity of a couple of players we have brought back into the squad in 2022 was a no-brainer. Someone like Bhuvi [Bhuvneshwar Kumar], who has done so much over a long period of time in IPL and India, we believe he still has plenty of years to come with his specific skills, that is to be able to bowl what I’d call the bookends of the game. And then you’ve got Nattu [T Natarajan] who has grown and grown as a mature fast bowler, gotten better and better. Yes, he had a slight hiccup with injury, but he’s not the first fast bowler to go through that.Natarajan has developed as this on-demand yorker specialist. Was he always one?
We knew of him as the yorker specialist from Tamil Nadu, and he’d had his success in the T20 League [TNPL] down there. But in his initial couple of years with us at Sunrisers there was a significant gulf between [his performances] in domestic cricket and IPL, but to his credit he has worked extremely hard on his skills and the physical side of fast bowling. He has continued to refine and perfect those skills he clearly had at the beginning. He just had to sharpen them a little further to provide that consistency at the IPL level and internationally.Related

Bhuvneshwar and Malik, the yin and yang of Sunrisers' attack

Some players can make the adjustment upwards and deliver their natural strength at the highest level; others find it difficult. Nattu has got better and better at refining his skill and remaining committed and authentic to who he is as a fast bowler. He hasn’t tried to do anything, but has got perfect at what he is really good at. In the T20 format, bowlers of his calibre are very rare. You’ve backed a number of Indian fast bowlers – Khaleel Ahmed, Basil Thampi, Sandeep Sharma, Bhuvneshwar, Natarajan, Umran Malik… the list is long. Tell us about your scouting process.
Scouting is important but what we do recognise, particularly now with Indian cricket is, nearly everyone knows what talent is out there, even though there is an overwhelming amount of talent. But it’s very rare that you can uncover a hidden gem. We were very fortunate to be able to do that with Umran Malik, but those examples are rare. We also managed to do that with Abdul Samad, who comes from the same state [Jammu and Kashmir]. We first gave Umran an opportunity through net bowling and the rest is history. The actual finding of players of that calibre are rare. Often young fast bowlers who have had any sort of recognition are pretty much on some sort of pathway, whether it’s through their state or through the Indian high-performance centre. Everyone has got the same advantage. It’s a question of identifying which one you feel can fit your strategy and set-up.Moody says T Natarajan is among those players who are able to make adjustments upwards to deliver their natural skills at the highest level•BCCIIt’s one thing to see players, another to back them, isn’t it?
A lot of people have commented over the years on how we have tended to bank [on] a lot of Indian fast bowlers. I don’t think we have gone out there with a conscious approach to have a squad full of Indian fast bowlers. What we have done is, we’ve gone out there with a conscious effort to make sure we have those specific roles nailed down within our squad. We have not only guys like Bhuvi as a leader of the pack with the new ball, we’ve got someone who can come in if Bhuvi is injured for a game or two or whatever it might be. And our focus has leaned toward Indian pace. It’s also because when Sunrisers Hyderabad took over from the Deccan Chargers in 2013, we didn’t inherit a lot of Indian international batsmen. They [Chargers] had Rohit [Sharma], but he got transferred to Mumbai Indians [in 2011], so we lost a world-class batter there. We managed to retain Shikhar Dhawan, but basically we had an inexperienced batting unit. So we had to build our batting around international players because there were very few Indians in the market to fill that role.Talking specifically about Umran Malik, it must delight you to see the wicketkeeper and slip fielders standing at the 30-yard ring when he bowls?
Look, it’s not just me. He’s thrilling the cricketing world with his appetite for pace and natural flair. There’s nothing better than seeing someone turn up and bowl 150 clicks, unless you’re at the other end.Umran has been terrific. We know his journey has just begun and he will have his challenges, like any other cricketer. Whether that be continuing to evolve and develop as a fast bowler or other challenges, he’s got a strong unit around him at Sunrisers. He’s got a great mentor in Dale Steyn. He’s a very focused and hard-working kid, so there’s a lot of upsides for him with Sunrisers and for Indian cricket.A lot of Indian fast bowlers in the past have gone from express to line and length because of injuries.
I don’t think he’ll ever be a line-and-length bowler. He’s born in a Ferrari and he’s going to drive the Ferrari (). He, like any fast bowler, will have his challenges, with injuries or whatever else, but the knowledge around managing fast bowlers and managing their aggression as they develop in their early years is a lot better now, so it’s a case of making sure he’s getting the right guidance, the right mentoring, and that he’s surrounded by key people who don’t overcomplicate the process. Given he’s a part of the Sunrisers family, that’s something I and the likes of Dale Steyn will make sure we communicate constantly throughout the year with the key people – with him, at the state level, and also at the high-performance level, to make sure that we’re all on the same page, looking after a rare diamond.Might Marco Jansen be a genuine allrounder for SRH in the future?•BCCIHave you seen a marked difference in the bowler who left the IPL last year and the one who arrived for this season?
I’ve seen improvements just in the games he has played this year. He was getting a little bit of negative feedback with regards to how expensive he was. His economy was quite high in the earlier games, but I think people have got to understand that when you have speed in the short format, you’re naturally going to have a high price. You need to accept there’s going to be a high economy, but what you want is a positive wicket return. He is encouraged not so much to focus on the runs he’s going for but his attacking approach and how he’s looking to pick wickets. And we support him with that by giving him some tactical inputs and game sense around his approach, depending on where we’re playing and who we’re playing. He is forever evolving, improving and understanding the game, because he’s still very young and has a lot to learn. What kind of a person is he?
He’s pretty relaxed, hard-working. He’s a character, has a bright personality and is a popular member of the squad, so a lot of people naturally gravitate towards him. Over the last 12 months, his English has got better and better, and our communication has become lot more fluent. His English has got a lot better than my Hindi over the last 12 months. He’s a very likeable character. The one thing that impressed us even before he became a contracted IPL player is that even when he was a net bowler, he was eager to learn, he’d ask a lot of questions. If he had to use Abdul Samad as a translator, he wouldn’t be shy to do that. He was always eager to learn, about his action, run-up, what he needs to be doing in the gym with regards to his strength programme, his rehab, etc. He’s been very proactive in that regard, which is a great sign for a young cricketer – for him to naturally gravitate to that approach as against having to be encouraged to go down that path.Let’s talk about Marco Jansen, another fast bowler in your ranks.
He’s unique. When you’re 6’9″ and bowling left-arm and with the ability to swing the ball, there are a few things going for you. One thing we really liked about Marco was, his style brought a point of difference to the IPL. A lot of players are not used to that extra bounce someone of that height can generate, so it gives our attack a point of difference when you’ve got someone delivering from that height who can get steep bounce and movement. The other thing is, we have a lot of hopes on Marco with regards to his batting ability. We haven’t seen it in the IPL yet, but in the mid- to long-term, we see him as a genuine allrounder, someone who can fill a role for us in the top six or seven and have a great impact with the ball as well.Halfway into the season, how satisfied have you been with the bowling recalibration, especially since you don’t have the bankability of Rashid Khan?
Rashid is a unique bowler. Any team that secures his services is going to have a huge value with the 24 balls that he delivers. But for whatever the circumstances were with regards to the auction and retention, unfortunately we couldn’t continue that story. But we have got a different approach this year. We have had to rethink our strategy. With the retention of Umran we knew he was going to play a role for us in the middle overs. We’re addressing the middle overs slightly differently now, and Umran is the aggressor in that role. Generally there the wristspinners – [Yuzvendra] Chahal or Rashid, or whoever it might be – are the aggressors in a different way. We have a different approach. We’ve had to work around with our balance. Washington Sundar, who has missed a few games because of injury, plays an important role. He is someone who can bat and play a key role as spinner in powerplay overs or outside them, depending on the match-ups. We find the balance working for us but one of the most important parts about our success over the last few games is our impact as a unit in the powerplay, and also the way we’ve controlled and shut down the back end of the innings.

CSK need to get their balance right with Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh missing

The absence of the experienced duo could open up spots for the uncapped Ruturaj Gaikwad and R Sai Kishore

Deivarayan Muthu18-Sep-20204:11

Will Jadeja be the breakthrough player for CSK this year?

Where they finished in 2019: Runners-up, losing to Mumbai Indians by just one run in a nerve-wracking last-ball finish.Potential XI: 1 Shane Watson, 2 Faf du Plessis, 3 Ambati Rayudu, 4 MS Dhoni (capt & wk), 5 Kedar Jadhav, 6 Ravindra Jadeja, 7 Dwayne Bravo, 8 Mitchell Santner/Imran Tahir, 9 Deepak Chahar 10 Piyush Chawla, 11 Shardul ThakurBatting: Suresh Raina’s exit has stripped Super Kings of their most experienced batsman and the left-hand element at the top of their order. While Super Kings have Ambati Rayudu, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Maharashtra and India A batsman, and M Vijay to help fill that void, all of them are right-handers and oppositions might target them with legspinners. MS Dhoni isn’t big on match-ups, but, perhaps, there’s a case for Super Kings to push Ravindra Jadeja or Sam Curran or Mitchell Santner up the order to provide greater balance to the batting line-up.Super Kings’ batting was rickety throughout the 2019 season, and the slow-moving legs may have gotten slower in late 2020. Watson has retired from professional cricket in Australia and the likes of Rayudu and Dhoni himself haven’t played competitive cricket for a year or thereabouts. To add to their concerns, Jadhav had a lean IPL 2019, managing a mere 162 runs in 12 innings at a strike rate of under 100. If Jadhav can’t quite break out of the funk this season, his state-mate Gaikwad, who is believed to have impressed Dhoni at the Chepauk camp in March earlier this year, could find a place in the middle order. They could also potentially have Deepak Chahar, Piyush Chawla, and Shardul Thakur at Nos. 9, 10, and 11. All three bowlers can bat and have made match-winning cameos in the IPL in the past.Chennai Super Kings full squad•ESPNcricinfo LtdBowling: Dubai will be the Super Kings’ home base – they will play seven of their 14 league fixtures at the Dubai International Stadium – and the tracks there tend to offer more assistance to spinners than the ones in Abu Dhabi and Sharjah do. The heat could challenge all sides, but the conditions, both overhead and underfoot, might not be too different from those in Chennai. However, Super Kings will likely miss Singh, who has also pulled out of the tournament for personal reasons. With him gone, Super Kings don’t have a specialist offspinner in their squad. The only other specialist Indian fingerspinner in the roster is rookie R Sai Kishore, who was a net bowler for them in Chennai last season.Dhoni, though, has three legspin-bowling options at his disposal – Imran Tahir, Piyush Chawla and Karn Sharma. Curran brings in the left-arm variety while Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi could be compelling with their extra pace and hit-the-deck style on quicker pitches.Young players to watch out for: The 23-year-old Gaikwad has been a prolific performer for India A – both at home and in overseas conditions. A tall batsman, Gaikwad is adept at driving the ball on the up and piercing the gaps. He also has the reverse-sweep in his repertoire, having rolled that out off mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya during his 187 not out in 136 balls in a truncated one-dayer against Sri Lanka A last year. Then, there’s the other 23-year-old, Sai Kishore, who was the powerplay specialist for Tamil Nadu in their run to the final in the most recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He largely attacks the stumps with drifters and sliders, but can also turn the ball away from right-handers. Singh’s unavailability could open up a place in the XI for Sai Kishore at some point in the tournament.Coaching staff: Stephen Fleming (head coach), Mike Hussey (batting coach), L Balaji (bowling coach), Eric Simmons (bowling consultant), Rajiv Kumar (fielding coach).

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler reveals cancer treatment as he urges fans to 'get checked' in emotional message

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has revealed he recently underwent cancer treatment and has urged others to 'get checked' in an emotional social media post. The striker came through the ranks at Liverpool, and scored 120 league goals in 236 appearances before leaving for Leeds in 2002 having lost his spot in the Reds first team to iconic strike duo Emile Heskey and Michael Owen.

'Just need to get a club now'

Fowler, though, posted on X over the weekend that he recently underwent a procedure to remove a blemish just above his left eye. The spot was confirmed to be skin cancer, which was successfully removed from his face.

"Before and After… been a few people lately saying the same thing, go and get those blemishes/spots checked, basal cell carcinoma," Fowler posted on X. "Caught early thankfully so all good…just need to get a club now."

The former striker went on to receive a number of messages of support following his procedure, with former Reds star Luis Garcia posting: "Get well soon mate." Additionally, ex-goalkeeping coach John Achterberg said: "Good all is ok mate." CBS reporter Christine Cupo added: "Heal up well! Great awareness for early detection."

A number of fans also posted their support for Fowler, who was routinely referred to as "God" during his time at Liverpool, despite growing up as an Everton fan.

  • What is basal cell carcinoma?

The NHS describes basal cell carcinoma as a type of non-melanoma skin cancer that starts in the top layer of the skin, while outlining the main cause of the form of skin cancer and stating that it can be easily treated.

"The main cause is ultraviolet light, which comes from the sun and is used in sunbeds," the NHS website reads. "Things that increase your chances of getting non-melanoma skin cancer include your age, having pale skin and having had skin cancer in the past.

"It's possible to reduce your risk of skin cancer by being careful in the sun – for example, by using sunscreen and reapplying it regularly. There's another type of skin cancer called melanoma. It's less common and usually more serious than non-melanoma skin cancer."

The NHS went on to add: "They are often first noticed as a scab that bleeds and does not heal completely or a new lump on the skin.

"Basal cell carcinomas can develop as a nodule that progressively and slowly enlarges. Some Basal cell carcinomas are superficial and look like a scaly red flat mark on the skin. Others form a lump and have a pearl-like rim surrounding a central crater and there may be small red blood vessels present across the surface. Any new lesions need to be shown to a doctor."

Who else did Fowler play for?

While Fowler is best remembered for his time at Liverpool, the forward also played for Manchester City after leaving Leeds in 2003 before a brief return to Anfield in 2006. Fowler departed Liverpool for a second time in 2007, and went on to play for Cardiff and Blackburn.

The former frontman then made the move to Australia in 2009 with North Queensland Fury, then on to Perth Glory in 2010. Fowler finally ended his playing days in 2012 following a brief stint with Thai side Muangthong United, who he'd go on to take over as a player-manager in 2011.

Fowler also managed Australian side Brisbane Roar from 2019 to 2020, before leaving to take over as East Bengal boss. The former England forward briefly took over as Al-Qadsiah head coach in 2023, but his time with the Saudi side lasted just four months, with Spaniard Michel appointed as his replacement.

Robbie Fowler previously held the record for the fastest hat-trick scored in Premier League history. Fowler scored three times in just four minutes and 33 seconds against Arsenal in 1994.

And it was a record that stood for over 20 years before being broken by Sadio Mane for Southampton in May 2015, where the forward bagged a hat-trick in just two minutes and 56 seconds. Mane would go on to move to Liverpool in 2016.

He'd revive Gordon: Newcastle target "best coach in the world" to replace Howe

Eddie Howe is a legend on Tyneside. In years to come, his name will be used as the barometer from which managerial success at St. James’ Park is adjudged.

But Newcastle United are in a rut right now, their muscly underbelly having gone soft and their snappy tactical understanding having ebbed away from the level of last season, when a pathway into the Champions League was found and the Carabao Cup was lifted after Liverpool were beaten at Wembley.

Tournament form might be good, but the Magpies languish in 14th place in the Premier League, and after three goalless draws on the road to kick things off, three successive losses have been inflicted on the Toon, all against sides sat alongside them in the bottom half.

While it’s almost unthinkable, this decline has raised conversations relating to Howe’s future at the helm.

The latest on Howe's Newcastle future

PIF have adopted a ‘don’t panic’ approach to the current issues Newcastle are beset by. But improvements will be required over the coming months. The form on the road has been shambolic, and it is having a detrimental impact on what could still be another positive and progressive campaign.

Howe’s achievements are towering, and in this, he is immortal. But United’s drop-off reeks of deeper issues than, say, 2023/24, when injuries clamped down on any scent of progress. This is more than just a tinker job: a comprehensive reset is needed.

The English coach signed a new and long-term contract on Tyneside in 2022, less than one year after being appointed. A second, furtive extension may have since been engineered.

However, he is not untouchable in the dugout, and if PIF and technical director Ross Wilson feel he has taken this club as far as he can, potential avenues will be explored.

One of which could see them focus on one of the most interesting managers on the market, and he’s currently out of work.

Newcastle could hire Howe successor

Newcastle would love nothing more than to continue their journey with Howe in the managerial role, but the side’s form is alarming, and if the situation continues to devolve, hands may be forced before the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

The Mirror have recently compiled a list of candidates to consider, should the club look to head down that path and find a successor, and possibly the most curious name belongs to former Barcelona boss Xavi.

The Spanish legend has been out of work since the end of 2023/24, and Fabrizio Romano said at the start of the season that the 45-year-old was interested in taking the Manchester United job, had INEOS sacked Ruben Amorim. He has, after all, said himself that he “would love to work in the Premier League”.

Xavi’s principles are shaped by slick, Barca-esque (obviously) passing patterns, and the likes of Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes could thrive at the heart of such a system.

But it’s Anthony Gordon who could benefit the most, finding more freedom down the left channel in a system that would see the Magpies soar to the top of the Premier League’s possession charts, maintaining the 4-3-3 tactical shape that Howe has enforced.

Gordon has struggled this year, and no mistake. The 24-year-old looks a pale imitation of his top-class self, with journalist Adam Clery even commenting that he looks “all over the place” at the moment.

Xavi’s sharp tactical mind could help Gordon find a solution, especially on the wing of such a fluent and commanding midfield force.

Comparing Gordon’s performances against his spectacular breakout season of 2023/24, when he posted 21 goal involvements in the league and won United’s Player of the Year award, it’s clear this is a man lacking confidence, currently showing little sign of the development expected as he matures into his left wing berth for club and country.

It is sharpness and polish which must be applied now, because for a player who considers himself among the top brass in England and Europe, zero contributions in the league this term is inexcusable.

Injuries and the red card beamed at him during that frustrating defeat to Liverpool at the start of the season have done little to turn the tide for the Three Lions star, but in Xavi, Newcastle could land a progressive manager whose high-possession philosophy could work well for a fast and mobile winger like Gordon.

Would it be unfair to say that it’s all gone a little bit stale under Howe’s wing at Newcastle? The man has done so much for the club and for the city, but he won’t sit in the dugout forever, and if there is a chance to sign a manager of Xavi’s class who could reenergise the ranks, it might be a worthwhile gamble.

He’s proven he has the minerals, having won La Liga in his first year as the Camp Nou boss, leading club president Joan Laporta to call him “the best manager in the world”.

With the boss having celebrated his fourth anniversary in the hot seat several days ago, journalist Andy Sixsmith waxed lyrical, saying, “Eddie Howe should go down as one of the greatest Newcastle United managers in history.”

This is correct, and Tyneside is in concert. However, as the potential to turn the page toward a new chapter, with the idea of an exciting boss like Xavi in charge gathering pace, more may begin to warm to change, should things, as they are, continue to regress.

Neville said Newcastle star was "Shearer-like", but now he's a "nightmare"

A set date for the judgment is yet to be made public. On July 1, the two-member bench of Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), a quasi-judicial body that handles matters related to government and public servants, made a key observation regarding the crowd at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The tribunal noted that RCB was responsible for drawing a crowd of approximately three to five lakh people outside the stadium to take part in the victory parade announced by the franchise on its social media channels, shortly after RCB won their first IPL title, on June 3.The CAT was tasked to investigate the matter after Vikash Kumar, Inspector General and Additional Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru (West), filed a complaint seeking redressal after being dismissed by chief minister Siddharamaiah in the aftermath of the stampede.Vikash and four other officials were dismissed for “substantial dereliction of duty” and not seeking “guidance” which led to the situation going “out of control.” The tribunal had said that RCB had “created nuisance” by going ahead with the IPL victory celebrations without seeking or getting necessary regulatory permissions. The remarks were part of the 29-page order that CAT issued.RCB, whose chief marketing officer Nikhil Sosale was arrested and then granted bail last month, is yet to issue any further statements since announcing an increased compensation to the family of the deceased, while also supporting those injured. They pledged to form a fund – RCB Cares – to help all the families affected by the tragedy. There has also been no update on their various social media channels since June 4, the day of the incident.

Not Kudus or Johnson: Spurs starlet looks like Frank's new Mbeumo

Thomas Frank’s appointment as Tottenham Hotspur boss generated huge excitement amongst the fanbase this summer, with the Dane having the chance to build on the Europa League triumph.

He spent seven years in charge of Brentford before his arrival, often relying upon talents such as Bryan Mbeumo to provide the goods within the final third across the capital.

The Cameroonian international thrived under Frank’s guidance in the Premier League, netting 20 times in the top-flight last season, subsequently making him one of the division’s hottest properties.

After the 51-year-old took charge of the Lilywhites, a real sense of excitement built at the prospect of the Dane bringing the 26-year-old with him in an attempt to sustain the recent European triumph.

However, despite interest in his signature, Mbeumo would move to Manchester United in a £71m transfer – a huge amount of money and potentially a slight overpay.

As a result, the new boss has had to rely on another summer addition and one player already on the books to try and provide the impact he desires within attacking areas.

Kudus & Johnson’s start to the 2025/26 season at Spurs

After missing out on Mbeumo’s signature, Spurs forked out £55m for the services of Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United to try and hand the manager his next version of the Cameroonian.

Such a deal may have been an expensive one, but it’s a transfer that has been worth every penny to date, with the Ghanaian already registering one goal and four assists in his first ten outings.

His first goal for the Lilywhites came in the recent triumph over Leeds United, subsequently highlighting his ability to pop up with crucial goals when the side need him most.

Kudus isn’t alone in falling into that category, with teammate Brennan Johnson also able to score key goals for the Lilywhites, as seen by his winner in the Europa League final last campaign.

Whilst he’s already scored three times across all competitions, the Welsh international has failed to start a single league game since the end of August and has rapidly fallen down the pecking order.

The 24-year-old will likely be disappointed with his lack of action, which has potentially been impacted by the arrival of Kudus during the recent transfer window.

Whilst both are hugely talented players, it remains to be seen if any can reach the levels produced by Mbeumo in recent times, but one other star already in the ranks could achieve such a feat, given the similarities in their careers.

The Spurs star who could be Frank’s next Mbeumo

Over the last couple of seasons, Spurs have splashed the cash to try and compete with teams around them, as seen by the respective deals to land Kudus and Johnson.

Around £400m has been spent in recent years to catapult the club to the needed success, with such spending undoubtedly helping them claim European glory back in May.

Various recruitment strategies have been in place over recent times, often signing a mixture of youth talent for the future, or players entering their prime and able to make an immediate impact.

However, players sometimes cross over both categories, as seen by the arrival of attacker Wilson Odobert from Burnley back in the summer of 2024.

A deal for the Frenchman certainly came out of nowhere, with the Lilywhites hierarchy paying £25m for his signature after the Clarets suffered relegation back to the Championship.

Whilst the 20-year-old has only made 30 appearances throughout the injury, he’s still managed to impress in North London and show glimpses of his potential and talents.

Odobert, who’s been dubbed “phenomenal” by one analyst, has already scored three times for the club, two of which came during their Europa League-winning campaign in 2024/25 – already highlighting his ability to produce the goods in key moments.

Whilst his goalscoring tally isn’t as impressive as Mbeumo’s, the similarities are there for everyone to see, with the Frenchman moving to England from Troyes.

The now Man Utd talent did the exact same upon his transfer to Brentford back in the summer of 2019 – subsequently needing time to make a huge impact in England.

He struggled to register double figures in goals for each of his first three top-flight campaigns, but the Bees’ patience was certainly rewarded, as seen by his tallies and fee generated in recent times.

Odobert could do the exact same for the Lilywhites in the years ahead, with the club and fanbase needing to support the winger in his attempts for success in North London.

At just 20, he has bags of time to live up to the potential he arrived with, but it’s crucial that Frank works his magic once again to create another world-class attacker.

Spurs have signed an incredible "freak talent" who could be their new Bale

The sensational gem could become Tottenham Hotspur’s new Gareth Bale.

Should he get anywhere close to Mbeumo’s level, it would be a sensational piece of business and one that could help the Lilywhites sustain their recent success in Europe or even domestically.
