Confira a postagem:

Liverpool keeping tabs on "great" £21m star to replace Alexander-Arnold

Amid an excellent start under Arne Slot, Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention towards La Liga as they sound out potential replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is currently set to leave as a free agent next summer.

Liverpool transfer news

The Reds couldn’t have asked for a much better start to life under new manager Slot, with just one loss and four goals conceded in eight games in all competitions. The latest instalment of the post-Jurgen Klopp era came this weekend as the Reds scraped past a resolute Wolves side to win 2-1 courtesy of Mohamed Salah’s penalty. It wasn’t their finest performance of the campaign, but Liverpool got the job done once again.

However, despite sitting top of the Premier League, Liverpool aren’t without their problems. As things stand, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are set to become free agents and leave Anfield next summer in three major potential blows to Slot. And whilst none of the trio have outright said they want to depart, the fact that new contracts are yet to be announced should be a cause for concern.

The Reds do at least have a plan in place if Alexander-Arnold leaves next summer. According to CaughtOffside, Michael Edwards is keeping tabs on Juanlu Sanchez, who Sevilla reportedly value at just €25m (£21m) ahead of 2025.

Sevilla defenderJuanlu Sanchez.

Alas, Liverpool aren’t the only side eyeing a move. Reports have also linked Arsenal and West Ham United to sign the 21-year-old Spaniard. Given the Reds’ potential need to find a replacement for Alexander-Arnold, it is a busy race that they could be desperate to win when next summer arrives. Replacing Alexander-Arnold would be a near-impossible task, but Sanchez certainly has plenty of potential.

"Great" Sanchez would have impossible Liverpool task

The argument could be made that a direct replacement for Alexander-Arnold doesn’t exist down the right-hand side, handing Liverpool the ultimate task. Seemingly turning towards Sanchez, it would be a lot to ask the Spaniard to replicate Alexander-Arnold’s stunning passing range, but he could certainly step in and hand the Reds a different element within Slot’s back four.

Sanchez is someone who would have to grow into such a role, given that he’s still just 21, but that should hand Slot an advantage. The Dutchman would be in a position to mould the full-back into the perfect heir to Alexander-Arnold’s Liverpool throne.

Praised for his “great” game against Barcelona by Spanish journalist Angel Perez last season, Olympic gold medallist Sanchez should be one to watch. When 2025 arrives, the battle between Premier League sides should be one to take note of, especially if Trent Alexander-Arnold fails to sign a new contract at Liverpool and leaves as a free agent next summer.

Sold for £5m: Chelsea ace has been even better than Madueke since leaving

Todd Boehly is a man who has shown huge ambition during his two-year tenure owning Chelsea Football Club – spending over £1.1bn on new transfers to try and overhaul the playing squad.

Whilst some of his signings have been erratic, to say the least, many of them have proven to be excellent additions, providing added quality to new boss Enzo Maresca.

Cole Palmer undoubtedly has been the American’s best investment during his time at the helm, splashing out £40m on his services – registering 45 goal contributions in his 51 appearances for the Blues.

Fellow forward Christopher Nkunku hasn’t been able to make as great an impact as he would’ve envisaged due to his injury concerns, but he has posted a tally of six goals in 20 matches.

One other player has also enjoyed a great start to life at Stamford Bridge, taking his form at the club to the next level after the arrival of Maresca during the off-season.

Noni Madueke’s stats for Chelsea

Winger Noni Madueke made the move to Chelsea back in January 2023, joining from Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven in a £29m deal.

He had to bide his time under former boss Mauricio Pochettino before he could make an impact in West London, only making 13 starts in the league last season.

However, he still managed to post a tally of five goals in the Premier League during the 2023/24 campaign – ending his first full season at the Bridge as the club’s fourth top scorer.

The arrival of Maresca has allowed for a huge upturn for the 22-year-old, starting all but one league outing so far, excelling with his increased game time on the pitch.

He’s already scored three league goals this season, bagging himself a hat-trick in the 6-2 demolition of Wolves – subsequently earning him his maiden call-up to the England national side during the recent international break.

However, despite his recent form, he’s been outperformed by one player who was allowed to leave the club 12 months – with potential regret now creeping in after his recent form away from the Bridge.

The former Chelsea ace who’s outperformed Madueke after leaving

Winger Callum Hudson-Odoi looked to be one of the biggest young talents in Europe a couple of years ago – breaking through Chelsea’s academy before featuring for the first team before even being subjected to £70m interest from Bayern Munich.

Your star player or biggest flop has left the club but what are they doing in the present day? This article is part of Football FanCast's Where Are They Now series.

However, a torrid spell with injuries saw the Englishman rapidly drop down the pecking order, losing his place in West London and in desperate need of a fresh start to reignite his once-promising career.

The attacker is still only 23, but he secured a £5m move to fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest last summer – an absolute bargain, especially when considering his recent form at the City Ground.

Hudson-Odoi notched eight league goals last season, before firing home the winner against Liverpool for the Reds last weekend – with the youngster outscoring Madueke in the same time period, having notched nine league goals to Madueke’s eight since the start of 2023/24.

He’s already been touted with a £40m move to Tottenham Hotspur in recent months, further proving how cheaply the Blues allowed the “sensational” forward – as described by U23 scout Antonio Mango – to depart his boyhood club.

The attacker’s recent form in England’s top flight is evidence that he still has all of the qualities to thrive at the top level despite his recent injury worries.

Whilst Madueke has undoubtedly been a superb addition for the club, they may have been better off putting trust in Hudson-Odoi, with his goalscoring exploits already better than that of the £29m signing.

Newcastle struck gold on Sir Bobby signing who’s now worth as much as Guehi

Newcastle United may have enjoyed a solid start to the 2024/25 campaign, yet Eddie Howe must still be stewing after failing to strengthen his side much during the summer transfer window.

The Magpies missed out on several key targets which would have bolstered their starting XI, thus potentially giving them a better chance of returning to the top four of the Premier League this season.

One of the main transfer sagas was that of Marc Guehi, with the club showing plenty of interest, but a move failed to materialise in the summer.

The Marc Guehi saga

As the transfer window was approaching the final few weeks, Newcastle made a third bid of around £60m which was rejected by Crystal Palace.

The English centre-back remains at the London side, until January at least, and his value could potentially drop if he forces a move North.

England defender Marc Guehi

Guehi has played in all three of Palace’s league matches so far this term, winning a staggering 76% of his total duels per game, while being dribbled past on just 0.3 occasions each match, showcasing his defensive abilities.

Despite the good start, Howe will always be looking to strengthen his squad and Guehi represents an upgrade to several of his current defenders.

Will he make another approach in January? Only time will tell. The Magpies did sell a centre-back a few years ago who, interestingly, would be worth the same value as Guehi in 2024 money – Jonathan Woodgate.

Jonathan Woodgate’s value in 2024 money

After spending just 18 months at St James' Park, Woodgate was attracting attention from Real Madrid in the summer of 2004.

Hailed as a “perfect” signing when Bobby Robson brought him to the club in January 2003, it was clear the advances of La Liga royalty weren’t going to be swatted away.

Jonathan Woodgate

An offer of £13.4m was too good to turn down, which saw the English defender swap Newcastle for Madrid.

It wasn’t to be the best of spells for him in Spain – notably scoring an own goal and being sent off on debut – but it was evident that the Toon hit the jackpot on Woodgate, particularly when you consider what his value would be in the modern market. How have we established that? Well, the guys at Totally Money have lent a hand.

So, in 2024 money, this lowly £13.4m transfer fee would now be worth a staggering £60m if he made the same move just now.

Jonathan Woodgate

Although Palace rejected Newcastle’s £60m bid for Guehi, they could be tempted to do a deal at that price in the next few months, which would see him valued the same as Woodgate was 20 years ago.

Despite making only 37 appearances during his time on Tyneside, Robson struck gold by selling him for more than he paid just 18 months prior.

Woodgate played just 14 times during his spell in Madrid before returning to England where he finished his career.

The future of Guehi is still unclear. If he goes on having another solid few months at Palace, it surely won't just be Newcastle banging on the door at Selhurst Park.

Newcastle could regret selling £1.8m ace who outscored Gordon in 23/24

He’s gone on to have a successful career away from St James’ Park.

States in discussions on Earl Eddings future as Cricket Australia chairman

New South Wales oppose a second term for Eddings but he may have the support to continue

South Australia’s chairman Andrew Sinclair has responded to his New South Wales counterpart John Knox’s opposition to a second term for the Cricket Australia chair Earl Eddings, writing to ask for greater clarity as to why the largest state association is eager for change at the top of the game’s governance.Last month, Knox sent a letter to all the state associations in which he outlined the NSW board’s opposition to Eddings getting a second term, and also attached a 2019 letter to the CA chair in which he made it clear that a succession plan was required.ESPNcricinfo has learned that Sinclair replied with his own correspondence that defended the incumbent’s record but also asked for Knox to outline his reasons for wanting change. It is believed that subsequent discussion was had between Knox and Sinclair, rounded off by follow-up correspondence from the NSW chair to the rest of the state associations welcoming further talks.David Maddocks, the Cricket Victoria chairman and a longtime associate of Eddings through their common connection to the North Melbourne Cricket Club, is also understood to have written to Knox. He outlined the case for leadership continuity to ESPNcricinfo last year.”You often hear it said that board members by the time their period is about to expire, they’re really at their best, they’ve been around, they understand the issues, they understand the interrelationships and all those sorts of things,” Maddocks said. “I think at the moment in terms of CV and CA, there is a strong case for stability in a period of great instability. My personal view is I think Earl is doing a very good job and I think if there was potential for him to stay on, I think it’s something that ought to be considered.”CA is currently awaiting a conclusion to another succession saga around their chief executive, a role held in interim form by Nick Hockley since Kevin Roberts’ resignation mid-last year. Hockley wants the job full-time, but CA have engaged an outside recruitment firm to conduct a search for candidates to be weighed up against him.Related

Hockley and Eddings were able to successfully helm the staging of the international and domestic home seasons despite the pressures of Covid-19 and a dispute with the free-to-air broadcaster Channel Seven. Major overseas commitments to play Bangladesh and South Africa have been postponed, while scheduled home assignments against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe are also in limbo. There are also simmering discontents around the way the board handled CA’s initial response to the pandemic last year, including mass stand downs for staff.Twelve months on, strategic discussions around the future of the game have begun at CA management and board levels, a curious development given the lack of clarity about the tenure and identities of both the chair and the chief executive.Eddings, who has been a CA director since 2008, is also involved in strategy and governance discussions at the global level with the ICC, which is in a similar state of flux with a new chairman Greg Barclay and an interim chief executive, Geoff Allardice.CA’s board nominations committee is chaired this year by John Harnden, the director nominated by Sinclair and the SACA, while Queensland (chaired by Chris Simpson), Western Australia (chaired by Terry Waldron) and the CA director Michelle Tredenick are the other committee members. While approved by CA’s nominations committee as new directors last year, former New South Wales premier Mike Baird and ABC board director Vanessa Guthrie did not sit on their first CA board meeting until the last week of March this year, by which time the Cricket NSW board, chaired by Knox, had stated its opposition to Eddings being retained as an independent director when his current term expires in October. There has been a precedent, tried by Eddings’ predecessor David Peever, to have the CA board “unanimously” endorse him as chair for a second three-year term prior to the two governance processes that follow in any given year: those of the nominations committee for directors, and the CA AGM itself where directors are retired or re-elected by rotation via the votes of their state association owners.Nick Hockley is favourite to be the long-term CEO although other names are being canvassed•Getty Images

Peever, in the end, was successful in being voted back in as chair for another three years in October 2018, in spite of the chaos at that point enveloping CA in the wake of the Newlands scandal and the cultural review that followed it. However, after the review was belatedly shown to the state associations in the hour after the AGM itself, Peever lasted only a few more days when Knox called him to state, flatly, that he had lost the support of the largest state association. Two and a half years on, and Eddings has given no indication that he wishes to conclude his time as chair, in spite of Knox and NSW again raising their opposition. This time around, Eddings appears to want to stay on provided he has the support of the board and a working majority of the states: four out of six need to be opposed to Eddings in order to force him out.”I’m there at the behest of the board and the members, so it’s up to them to make that call,” he told ESPNcricinfo late last year. “Succession is really critical and we’re always talking about succession. My comment around longevity is you don’t want to stay around too long, however with the dynamic of the ICC, it takes a long time to build relationships and if we didn’t spend time building a relationship with India this summer could have been in jeopardy.”CA has been governed by an independent board of nine directors since major constitutional reform in 2012 that ended a representative model in which the six states shared 14 directors who also sat on state boards. Numerous states are known to want consideration of a hybrid model, whereby six directors are direct representatives of the six states, with three independent directors.

Lanus based reporter shares latest as Liverpool ready £13m Julio Soler bid

With Liverpool now less than two weeks away from their Premier League curtain raiser against Ipswich Town, the Reds look finally ready to enter the transfer market and bring in some fresh faces.

Liverpool look set to bring in new players

Whilst this summer has so far seen no new players arrive at Anfield, the latest rumours suggest that Liverpool could be making some big moves in the latter stages of the window. The name most prominently touted for a move to Merseyside is that of Anthony Gordon, who appears desperate to join the Reds this summer.

Liverpool could sign best CF since Suarez with move for £59m "powerhouse"

FSG would need to break their record to land this goal machine…

ByAngus Sinclair Aug 3, 2024

The boyhood Liverpool fan was first offered to the Reds as a way to ease the financial concerns of Gordon's current club Newcastle United. Despite the Toon solving their struggles through other means, it appears that Liverpool are now set on bringing the player to Anfield at some point.

The latest development regarding this deal has seen Fabrizio Romano confirm that Liverpool are still interested in signing the England international this summer despite the Magpies insisting on a fee in the region of £75million.

Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon

Another of the Three Lions' stars on the Reds' radar is Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi. A report from last month suggested that Arne Slot's side were confident that they could seal a deal for the 24-year-old, although more recent rumours have suggested that Newcastle could be a likely destination for the defender.

With Liverpool's transfer window looking likely to kick off at any moment, it appears that the Reds have made contact over signing a highly-rated young talent.

Reds make contact for Argentina starlet

Mariano Antico, a reporter for major Argentine outlet TyC Sports as well as local Lanus radio in Buenos Aires, has shared an update on Liverpool's interest in Lanus defender Julio Soler.

The Reds view the 19-year-old as a long-term replacement for Andy Robertson and have even gone as far as to make contact with Soler's current side about a potential transfer, which they are "likely" to formalise into an opening bid very soon.

Antico states that Lanus are looking for around £13million for the teenager and it is "very feasible" a deal will be agreed if FSG stump up that number.

On top of his domestic exploits Soler also caught the eye of his national team, making his debut for Argentina's Under 23s side back in June. The 19-year-old was also selected for his country's squad for this summer's Olympic games. Under the management of former Anfield favourite Javier Mascherano, Soler featured four times, grabbing one assist in the process.

With the previously mentioned Robertson still struggling with an injury he sustained during EURO 2024, a new left back may be high on the Reds' list of priorities this summer. Kostas Tsimikas has been a reliable back up in recent seasons, however at 28 years of age, Slot may be in the market for a younger model to support the Scotsman.

Liverpool left-back Kostas Tsimikas.

With Liverpool likely to take much of their business right up to the August 30th deadline, a deal for Soler could be one to watch as the window enters its final weeks.

This surprising development comes after Rice played a full 90 minutes in the Premier League fixture on Saturday, where Arsenal suffered a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United. The midfielder’s absence from the training session on Tuesday morning at London Colney has raised questions over his fitness, with manager Mikel Arteta expected to address the issue during his pre-match press conference.

AdvertisementTHE BIGGER PICTURE

The England international has been a key figure in Arsenal’s lineup since his £105m ($137m) arrival from West Ham in 2023. He has only missed two games for Arsenal this season – one due to suspension and another as a precaution – and Arteta will be forced to rethink his midfield configuration with the English midfielder unavailable. Arsenal’s lineup will continued to be depleted with defenders Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu also ruled out for Wednesday’s match due to injuries.

While Rice’s situation remains uncertain, Arsenal received a lift with the return of team captain Martin Odegaard, who has resumed full training. He has been sidelined since sustaining an ankle injury during international duty with Norway in early September, missing 12 matches across competitions. His return to fitness provides Arteta with a creative option in the midfield.

Arsenal enter Wednesday’s match with a strong record in the Champions League, having gone unbeaten and kept clean sheets in all their group stage matches. The Gunners have already claimed victories over Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk, alongside a scoreless draw with Atalanta, which sees them level on seven points with Inter. Another victory over the Serie A giants will be a major step in their bid for a direct qualification spot for the round of 16.

England men’s upcoming tour of India in February-March 2021 will feature four Tests instead of the five originally, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly confirmed on Tuesday. With 2021 being a T20 World Cup year – India is slated to host it in October-November – the extra Test has now been scrapped to accommodate two additional T20Is. That means the tour, which the BCCI hopes to host entirely in India, now comprises four Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.England were earlier scheduled to tour in India for three T20Is and as many ODIs in September, but it was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the uncertainty over the status of the 2020 T20 World Cup, which was scheduled to be held in Australia in October-November.”England is touring India for four Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is,” Ganguly said at a virtual event. “It is easier to have bilaterals than having eight-nine-ten teams, which gets difficult, but we have to keep assessing the situation.”A lot of people are talking about the second Covid wave. We’re already hearing of cases being on the rise again in Mumbai and Delhi, so we have to be careful and make sure everything is in order.”As such, the UAE, which hosted IPL 2020, continues to remain a back-up venue, not just for the England series but also IPL 2021 that will follow immediately.”The next IPL is five months away and we’re very much trying to have it in India,” Ganguly said. “I always tell people that they need to be here to see what the IPL means to India. We’re also going to be hosting domestic cricket in India.”The details of the domestic season haven’t been announced yet, although it is understood that the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the domestic T20 competition, and the Ranji Trophy, the first-class competition, are the only two tournaments that can be accommodated in a short window. Plans for Under-19s and the women’s season are still being worked out.”We have had extensive discussions on domestic cricket and we have tentatively decided to start the competitions from January 1, 2021,” Ganguly had told PTI in October. “We will certainly have the full-fledged Ranji Trophy. [But] it will probably not be possible to hold all tournaments.”We also have elaborate plans for our age-group and women’s cricket. We will start with the Ranji Trophy and then we will also have the other tournaments between March and April.”
