Aleem Dar, the Pakistani umpire who recently officiated in his 100th Test, has been left embarrassed by a row involving one of Britain’s oldest cricket clubs, after his sons were persuaded by a rogue club official to pretend to be Scottish in order to play in a league fixture.Kilmarnock Cricket Club was this week thrown out of the first division of the Western District Cricket Union in Scotland after it emerged that Ali and Hassan Dar, aged 18 and 16, had circumvented eligibility rules by falsely claiming to have been born in Glasgow. The pair were encouraged by Kilmarnock’s vice president, Muhammad Saleem – who has since resigned – to register under the pseudonyms Umer Mustafa and Saleh Mustafa to compete for Kilmarnock during the 2015 season, including one fixture, against Stenhousemuir in August, which was watched by Dar himself. The umpire’s trip to watch the contest in question arose after England’s three-day victory over Australia in the third Test at Edgbaston, which had left him with a free weekend to attend what he believed to be a friendly fixture at Stenhousemuir’s Tryst ground.”I do confirm that I, along with my wife, went to watch the game but it was a friendly game I thought,” Dar told ESPNcricinfo. “I went there to watch my sons and nephew Azeem, but I didn’t know that my sons were playing with different names.”My sons are too young to tamper with the personal details,” Dar added. “Both have Pakistani passports and they are proud to be Pakistanis. We have no doubt about that at any level. This entire story seems to be some kind of misunderstanding”Although no official documents were involved in the subterfuge, Kilmarnock have been punished with relegation to the second tier of the Western District Cricket Union, after it emerged that “Umer” and “Saleh” had actually been born in Pakistan and had not spent enough time in the UK in the preceding months to qualify as full-time residents.A Western Union official declared: “We received information regarding possible breaches of league rules and our investigation proved this to be the case.”It was found that two players were registered with improper details and one, or both, participated in a number of matches during the 2015 season.”The CMC [Cricket Management Committee] has decided to follow precedent by deducting all the points gained by Kilmarnock in the matches in which the two illegally registered players participated.”Kilmarnock have therefore been deducted 49 points and are now relegated.”In a statement posted to the club’s website, Kilmarnock accepted the punishment, but insisted it had been misled by “the fraudulent actions of a single committee member”.In his resignation letter, in which he also withdrew as a member of the club, Saleem apologised for the “distress and harm” he had caused to Kilmarnock CC and to the WDCU for bringing the game into disrepute. However, he claimed in mitigation that the practice had been rife among several teams during the preceding six years, and asked that the WDCU committee tighten its policy to avoid such controversies in the future.”The club denies in the strongest terms that we knowingly provided false and misleading information in the registration of the two players,” Kilmarnock’s statement continued.”Whilst this has been a hugely stressful and ultimately disappointing period in the history of the club, we have fought back from fire, flood and countless other setbacks since 1852.”The strength of any club is its members, and whilst it is galling that the fate of the club and its members has been influenced by the misguided efforts of a few, we as a club can push on again if everyone sticks together.”Kilmarnock, who won the league on seven occasions between 1949 and 1970, were replaced in the top flight by St Michael’s, who had previously been relegated at the end of the 2015 season.Dar, who is presently in Lahore, agreed that the fault for the controversy lay with the club officials.”They should be enquired about this,” he said. “If the club was relegated then that happened for a good reason. One son is 16 and the other is hardly 18. They did play the league matches there, but they had played many friendly games as well.”7.50pm BST: This story was updated with Aleem Dar’s response
9pm BST, May 1: Further updated to reflect Muhammad Saleem’s resignation

Need to manage Chameera, Kaushal very carefully – Mathews

Dushmantha Chameera’s pace and Tharindu Kaushal’s turn was raw, but exciting, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews said, after his team completed a seven-wicket win at the P Sara Oval

Andrew Fidel Fernando in Colombo29-Jun-2015Dushmantha Chameera’s pace and Tharindu Kaushal’s turn was raw, but exciting, Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews said, after his team completed a seven-wicket victory at the P Sara Oval. Chameera – on debut – and Kaushal – in his second Test – shared nine wickets between them, each playing a central role in Pakistan’s lower-order collapses.Chameera consistently clocked the highest speeds in the match, though Wahab Riaz was out of action for most of the game, and Kaushal impressed with the turn he obtained from a first-day surface, on his way to 5 for 42. Both of them play for the same Colombo club, but while Kaushal was picked after three years of domestic excellence, Chameera made his way to the Sri Lanka side largely on promise.”Those two are players who can do a lot for Sri Lankan cricket,” Mathews said. “We have to manage them very carefully – especially Chameera. I haven’t seen a faster spell than he bowled in this Test match. He’s very quick. He clocked 149.9 kph which is extraordinary for a Sri Lankan but also for any bowler around the world.”Tharindu Kaushal turns the ball. I understand that he’s raw, but he’s got more than 200 wickets in first-class cricket and we have to be positive with him. Test cricket is completely different, but unless we give them opportunities, we won’t know what they can do. It wasn’t a gamble to select them.”Rangana Herath has only taken the wicket of Azhar Ali (twice) in the series, raising some concerns over his form, but Mathews said it was pleasing to secure victory without a major contribution from Sri Lanka’s primary match-winning bowler. Herath ordinarily excels against Pakistan, but has figures of 2 for 218 in the series so far.”What Rangana Herath usually does was shared around by all four bowlers,” Mathews said. “We didn’t expect too much from him. At some occasions Rangana does well, and on other occasions other players step up. We’re not looking to load anyone up with unfair expectations. Sometimes a bowlers doesn’t do huge service to the team, but even if he’s not getting wickets, he’s preventing batsmen from getting quick runs. He did a lot of that this Test.”Dhammika Prasad, meanwhile, has 10 wickets at 23.60, having helped shape the second Test with his bowling on the fourth day. “Dhammika bowled brilliantly throughout the Test match. He showed maturity throughout the last two years – helping us win that second Test in England, and also here. There are good signs as far as the fast bowlers are concerned.”We’ve got a set of good fast bowlers where they can change modes, they can attack or they can stick to line and length. Bowling coach Champaka Ramanayaka has been doing a great job. They’ve been showing a lot of maturity.”Mathews conceded that Sri Lanka’s first-innings batting effort was “short a few runs”, but lauded top-scorer Kaushal Silva, who made 80 from 218 balls.”Kaushal Silva goes at his own pace,” Mathews said. “We don’t want him to change his game. All the others are batting around him, which is our strategy as a team. We just want him to rotate the strike, and keep doing the things he’s been doing for many, many years. He’s played a lot of first-class games and has a lot of first-class hundreds. So he knows his game and is very well equipped. Most of the guys want to bat around him.”

Ireland, Afghanistan, Scotland seek finishing touches

Three of the four Associate qualifiers for this year’s World Cup descend on Dubai on Thursday for some much needed fixtures ahead of the main event. Afghanistan, Ireland and Scotland would probably prefer to get some pre-World Cup opportunities against Full Member opposition instead of playing amongst themselves. Yet, they can be grateful for the fact that they now have a bit of a leg up on preparation over Bangladesh and Zimbabwe, both of whom are starved of ODIs from December 1 through the start of the World Cup.Each team arrives in Dubai with their World Cup 15 already chosen, so the main objective of the tri-series for the three Associates will be to establish their best eleven by the time they leave the UAE, so that they land in Australia and New Zealand next month ready to stir the pot with as many upsets as possible. Here’s a look at each team’s approach for the double round-robin series, which begins with Scotland taking on Afghanistan at the ICC Global Cricket Academy on January 8.Afghanistan
The de facto hosts won four of eight contests on their pre-World Cup tour to Australia and New Zealand in September and October, but had their confidence dented by a humbling 3-1 ODI series defeat in November at the hands of fellow World Cup qualifiers UAE. Former captain Nawroz Mangal has been superb since moving to the top of the order but his opening partner is yet to be confirmed. Both Javed Ahmadi and Usman Ghani will be eager to present their respective cases to join Mangal. The team management will be keeping its fingers crossed that fast bowler Hamid Hassan can make it through the series injury-free. Hassan took 5 for 45 against UAE on December 4, in only his second match back since pulling up lame in Afghanistan’s Asia Cup win over Bangladesh in March.Afghanistan’s chances of excelling in both the tri-series and the World Cup will be greatly enhanced if Hassan remains on the field instead of in the physio’s room. New bowling coach Andy Pick will be licking his lips at the chance to work with Hassan and the rest of Afghanistan’s pace troupe, including Shapoor and Dawlat Zadran.Squad: Mohammad Nabi (capt), Javed Ahmadi, Aftab Alam, Mirwais Ashraf, Izatullah Dawlatzai, Usman Ghani, Hamid Hassan, Nasir Jamal, Nawroz Mangal, Gulbadin Naib, Hasmatullah Shaidi, Samiullah Shenwari, Asghar Stanikzai, Dawlat Zadran, Najibullah Zadran, Shapoor Zadran, Afsar Zazai (wk)Ireland
The darlings of the last two World Cups had a hit and miss autumn tour of Australia and New Zealand. The team suffered collectively due to the absence of Paul Stirling, Ed Joyce and Tim Murtagh, and it showed in the results.A silver lining on the batting side was that the absence of Stirling and Joyce offered an opportunity for Andy Balbirnie to seize an opportunity to force his way into the World Cup squad. The former Ireland Under-19 captain made three fifties in his last four matches on tour then followed it up a month later with a century against New Zealand A in Dubai. The challenge now for Balbirnie is to force his way into the starting eleven, now that the first-choice players have returned. On the bowling side, youngsters Craig Young and Peter Chase started off their acclimatisation tour down under with promise, but ended it with mental scars at the hands of opening onslaughts from Ronnie Hira and Jesse Ryder. Young claimed a five-for on ODI debut in September against Scotland and will be happy to see them again in an effort to rediscover the form he had at the end of the northern summer. The return of Murtagh should also ease pressure off the younger parts of the pace unit.Squad: William Porterfield (capt), Andy Balbirnie, Peter Chase, Alex Cusack, George Dockrell, Ed Joyce, Andy McBrine, John Mooney, Tim Murtagh, Kevin O’Brien, Niall O’Brien (wk), Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson, Gary Wilson, Craig YoungScotland
Despite coming away with just two wins on their September tour down under, Scotland turned in some encouraging performances including a nail-biting one-run loss to a virtually World Cup strength New Zealand XI. Scotland’s improved depth over the past year was evident in the fact that they nearly chased down New Zealand XI’s 263 despite Kyle Coetzer and Preston Mommsen scoring no runs on the day.Aside from that blip, the decision to switch the captaincy from Coetzer to Mommsen has continued to have a positive impact for both players. However, Scotland needs more incisive contributions from their fast bowlers. The last time a Scotland pacer took four or more wickets in an innings in an ODI was Iain Wardlaw’s 4 for 43 against Kenya in June 2013. They will struggle to beat their fellow Associates, let alone Full Members, unless big hauls are taken on a more regular basis.Squad: Preston Mommsen (capt), Richie Berrington, Kyle Coetzer, Freddie Coleman, Matthew Cross (wk), Josh Davey, Alasdair Evans, Hamish Gardiner, Majid Haq, Michael Leask, Matt Machan, Calum MacLeod, Gavin Main, Safyaan Sharif, Rob Taylor, Iain Wardlaw

Durante o jogo, você quer ganhar o jogo e cobra o companheiro. Nada fora do comum – finalizou.

INSULTOS A ZÉ NO AEROPORTO

Matthew Wade made his case for reconsideration at international level with his seventh first-class century as Victoria moved along to a solid score of 6 for 339 against Tasmania. On another rain-affected day in Hobart the Victorians batted through until stumps, having started the day on 3 for 119, and at the close of play Wade was still at the crease on 107 alongside Daniel Christian on 17.It was Wade’s first century in the longer format since being dropped from the Test side and he has the chance to go on and turn it into his highest first-class score on the third day. Earlier, Rob Quiney added 25 to his overnight score before he was bowled by Xavier Doherty for 82 and the nightwatchman Scott Boland compiled 51 from 212 deliveries.
