As Leeds search for reinforcements in this January transfer window, one player who may be looking over his shoulder, is Pascal Struijk.

Hailed as “very influential” by Marcelo Bielsa, who handed him his senior debut for the club in the Championship last season, Struijk has grown into a regular in Leeds’ first-team squad over the past twelve months.

Speaking to Football Insider, former Leeds ace Noel Whelan said earlier this month: “You can see what a great player he will be, he likes that aggression side, he’s very competitive in the air, he’s got that little bit of a nasty streak but he’s also very good on the ball.

“His ball distribution, his choices of passes but I think his overall intelligence of playing that centre position, he looks a lot more comfortable. Again, I was impressed with lots of people but to see him back in that position where he’s natural, you really can see a player in him.”

But with Erick Pulgar’s potential arrival at Elland Road, Struijk is likely to see game-time harder to come by in that holding midfield role, with talisman Kalvin Phillips already ahead of him in the pecking order.

And then when you consider that both club captain Liam Cooper, and summer signing Diego Llorente, have returned to fitness in the past couple of weeks, it becomes that much more difficult to see where Struijk really fits into this Leeds set-up unless injuries or suspensions occur.

After making 11 appearances this season in all competitions, and starting and completing the full 90 minutes in the past four Premier League games too, the 21-year-old is in real danger of being dropped from the line-up and going back to a place on the bench.

Bielsa described him as someone who “gives everything and asks for nothing in return”. But unless he really steps up his performances, that effort may not mean much given Pulgar’s potential signing and the return to fitness of the likes of Cooper and Llorente.

According to an ‘interesting’ update by reliable transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, via Man City Xtra, Juventus are ‘in love’ with striker Gabriel Jesus but they are not negotiating with Man City or his agents – with the Sky Blues’ stance on selling him made abundantly clear.

Jesus, who signed for City back in 2017, has been tipped as Sergio Aguero’s heir at the Etihad Stadium – with the latter club legend now entering the twilight phase of his career as he slowly returns to full match fitness.

The Argentine has made brief cameos recently since his latest injury lay-off, with City now having to start planning ahead for life without the club’s all time top goal scorer.

Flocking to this Romano update, despite Txiki Begiristain and co not wishing to sell Jesus, many Man City fans have buzzed over Juve’s interest whilst begging the club to offload him.

As links to Erling Haaland grow stronger and stronger, it’s clear these supporters don’t see their current attacker as a man fit to replace Aguero.

أوضح أن الفريق الكونغولي لعب في دوري الأبطال وبالتالي قوي ومواجهته لن تكون سهلة، واللاعبون على أتم استعداد لخوض المواجهة الهامة والعودة بنتيجة إيجابية، موضحا أن الروح عالية، والفريق منذ بداية الموسم لديه روح مختلفة تماما وكل مباراة الهدف منها هو الفوز.

وأضاف: “الفريق يعاني نقصا عدديا كبيرا بسبب الإصابات والغيابات لظروف القائمة، حيث يضطر الفريق للعب ٤ مباريات قوية في الأدوار الأولى بقائمة منقوصة وغياب للعناصر الجديدة”.

واختتم تصريحاته متمنيا أن يكون الفريق في قمة تركيزه ويعبر مواجهة بطل الكونغو ويحجز مكانه في دور المجموعات، ومواصلة مشوار البطولة حتى النهاية.

Tottenham Hotspur may have already qualified for the Europa League knockout stages but they welcome Belgian outfit Royal Antwerp to north London in a battle for the top spot.

The visitors are two points clear of Jose Mourinho’s men and are the only side to have beaten the Premier League giants in the competition this season.

Mourinho could name an entirely new starting lineup from the side that defeated the Gunners.

Starting in goal, we might see back-up shot-stopper Joe Hart take the place of skipper Hugo Lloris whilst the central defensive pairing of Japhet Tanganga and Davinson Sanchez looks set to continue in Europe for a third successive outing.

One player who definitely won’t be featuring is Serge Aurier. He picked up a niggle ahead of the north London derby, but still managed to play the full 90 though his unavailability may hand an opportunity to Matt Doherty whilst Ben Davies takes over from Sergio Reguilon.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is another who will be handed a rest having started all 11 league games this term, which means Harry Winks could be given a rare start alongside U21 starlet Harvey White. The 19-year-old has played eight minutes against Ludogorets a few weeks ago.

Tanguy Ndombele should come back into the starting XI after being absent for the Arsenal win and he’s preferred to Dele Alli in the no.10 role.

Whilst in attack, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius should replace the prolific exploits of Heung-min Son and Harry Kane, who quite rightly need a break from match action.

There may even be a start for Jack Clarke, who has only played 26 senior minutes this term. According to ESPN, the club’s staff “think very highly” of the 20-year-old, so it’s only right he’s given a fair crack.

AND in other news, Spurs could find their own Timo Werner in “stone-cold finisher”…

ويأتي ذلك بعد الإعلان من جانب رابطة الأندية المحترفة، عن اتفاقها رسميًا مع وزارة الداخلية على عودة الجماهير بقوة 2000 مشجع في كل مباراة.

Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United “for the right price.” 

The Red Devils have received a huge boost in the race to sign Sancho this summer, as Dortmund are willing to let him leave on one condition.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, the Germans will sell for the right price and Man United are expected to start negotiations with a basic fee of £55m, including a series of clauses and conditions that could take it to somewhere in the region of £80m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Sancho as the signing he needs to rebuild the Red Devils and take them to the next level.

Recent reports revealed Dortmund are stepping up contingency plans to prepare for his exit in the summer, which Delaney has now confirmed.

The Bundesliga challengers are sizing up a move for Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica as a suitable replacement.

As it stands, everything seems to point towards Sancho ending up at Old Trafford sooner rather than later, but as is often the case with United, there is an added catch.

Although all parties involved are confident a deal can be completed, the decision ultimately hinges on whether or not the Red Devils will qualify for the Champions League.

While that may be a bit extreme, Sancho’s camp have insisted that Champions League qualification could make-or-break the deal, which is one reason why it hasn’t happened yet.

Suddenly, the stakes seem even higher when Solskjaer’s side travel to Leicester City on Sunday. United now need a point not only to reach Europe’s premier competition, but also to bring Sancho back to England in the summer.

The Premier League may still remain a few weeks away from getting underway, but Tottenham are already facing a major issue in this summer transfer window.

One of the north London side’s main priorities has been to strengthen the right-back position, with Kyle Walker-Peters already having joined fellow Premier League side Southampton.

But Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier is also being linked with an exit, with The Telegraph recently claiming that Spurs are aiming to raise funds for the signing of Lille’s Zeki Celik by letting the former go.

However, The Evening Standard have suggested in recent days that Spurs’ asking price of £22m for Aurier is putting off potential suitors Milan, who are only willing to go up to £13m for the right-back.

Whilst Daniel Levy is understandably looking to secure the best money possible for one of his first-team players, he is risking delaying Celik’s signing or even completely missing out on him.

The sooner Mourinho gets some of his key transfer targets in, the sooner he can get to work on the training ground with them. With Spurs facing a hectic schedule at the start of the new campaign thanks to having to take part in the qualifying rounds for the Europa League, every day that the Lilywhites boss gets to train with his players will be vital.

Levy being his usually stringent self could leave Spurs in a major pickle for the opening games of the Premier League season, with either an unwanted Aurier still at the club, or no replacement full-back having being bought.

Compromising on Aurier’s asking price and getting a deal agreed for him will allow Spurs to quickly move on from the £70k-a-week star, and give Mourinho the time to actually start planning for the new campaign.
