Formiga festeja empate e pede Madureira diferente contra o Boavista

West Brom: Kyle Bartley boost for Wolves

West Brom are set to have club captain Kyle Bartley available for the Black Country derby this weekend, according to the Express & Star.

The 29-year-old lasted only an hour in last weekend’s FA Cup defeat to Blackpool but it appears as if he made it through unscathed and is now in line to start against Wolves on Saturday.

Bartley had missed five straight matches with a calf injury.

Although it’s a big boost to have your skipper back for one of the biggest games of the season, it does give Baggies boss Sam Allardyce a selection headache.

The last thing a struggling side like Albion needs is to constantly chop and change players, especially in a leaky defence that ranks worst in the Premier League.

“We can’t make too many rotations so it’s going to be a big ask for some of the players,” said the 66-year-old earlier this week.

It seems as if Big Sam had settled for Semi Ajayi and Dara O’Shea in recent matches, though Bartley’s return throws doubt into that continuing for much longer.

And with another game on Tuesday night against West Ham, there’s no guarantee that the former Leeds colossus even starts up at Molineux.

Allardyce also told reporters, via the E&S:

“Kyle had to come off after 60 minutes according to our sports science and medical staff. We didn’t want to fatigue him and get another injury,” before adding: “It was about getting him in and trying to win that game and saving him for the game next week against Wolves, then we have a midweek game against West Ham.”

In the absence of an out-and-out defensive midfielder, Ajayi moved into the role as they were dumped out of the cup, so there’s a chance that he sticks with the same defence that leaked two goals to League One Seasiders, which would mean Ivanovic partnering Bartley despite neither completing the full 90 minutes in preparation for this huge clash.

Bartley’s return would be seen as a major positive in a game like this as Allardyce needs a leader to step up and stop the rot of leaking so many goals.

Former caretaker boss Jimmy Shan once dubbed him a “natural -born leader” as he’s a “voice in the changing room” and a “real competitor,” which is exactly what Albion need right now.

If 100% fit, he should start against the Baggies’ arch-rivals in what is the first Black Country derby in nine years.

Exclusive: Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish tipped to join either Man City or Liverpool in future

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, Dean Windass has tipped Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish to walk into Manchester City’s starting line-up tomorrow.

The former Hull City and Middlesbrough striker believes Pep Guardiola’s Citizens, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool or Tottenham Hotspur are the only clubs Grealish would leave the Villans for, as Manchester United would refuse to meet the asking price set by Villa’s owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens.

Villa recently increased their valuation of Grealish to £100m and set a marker for any potential suitor to make the five-cap England international the most expensive British player in history, after he penned a new, five-year contract.

The 25-year-old has endured a troubled week after being banned from driving for nine months and fined more than £80,000 after pleading guilty to two motoring offences.

Windass would not hold the incidents against Grealish, and firmly believes Sawiris and Edens are well within their rights to demand a British record fee for the midfielder.

He told FFC:

“Yeah, in today’s market, forget about what he’s done off the field, we all make mistakes, I’ve been there and worn the t-shirt.

“But he’s a talent, local boy, he loves the club, he’s going to make mistakes he’s a young boy, he’s a young kid, and these young kids just need reminding every now and then.

“They’re on that much money now that the world is their oyster. Yeah, he’s been done drink driving, and now he’s paid the price, does it really hurt players nowadays that they’ve been done drink driving? You can afford to get a driver, it’s not as if they’ve got to get the bus.

“It’s wrong what he did, he’ll pay that price, and you’ve got to learn from it. We’ve all got learn from mistakes. I’ve been there. You learn from mistakes, and Dean [Smith]’s probably good for him, pull him to the side [and say] let your football do the talking and stop doing daft things off the field. But he’ll learn from that.

“But £100m, I think it was £80m before he signed his contract, he had an £80m clause in his contract. So £100m is a fair valuation now without a shadow of a doubt.

“He could go in Man City’s team tomorrow, and he’d be a good player. That’s the only teams he would go to, Liverpool or Man City or Tottenham. Manchester United would sign him tomorrow, but they won’t pay £100m.”

Grealish has been in outstanding form under Smith this season, providing five goals and six assists in 11 Premier League games ahead of the Birmingham-based outfit facing West Bromwich Albion on Sunday night.

Manchester United were linked with a potential move for the midfield maestro in the summer but baulked at Aston Villa’s £80m asking price, with Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward adamant that the figure in question was unrealistic.

Any move by the Red Devils would now likely face competition from their Etihad Stadium neighbours, with Guardiola said to have discussed a move for the 25-year-old with Kevin de Bruyne after marking Grealish as his top target.

Newcastle must finally end Andy Carroll’s misery at St James’ Park

If bringing Andy Carroll back was done with a nod to sentimentality, then next summer should see Newcastle rid themselves of all emotion and make a tough, but logical call, on his future.

The big Geordie returned to St James’ Park after several years away back in the summer of 2019, and admitted it was a dream come true. He said: “Playing for your boyhood team and going away, you realise what you had and missed. Coming back it’s something only dreams are made of. I enjoyed the time I spent here, and hopefully I can carry on where I left off. For me to get back to where I was, I think this is the only place for me.”

Sadly for both Carroll and the Magpies, he just hasn’t hit those heights. He hasn’t scored a single competitive goal since his return, and despite playing in just half of his side’s Premier League games last season, the Tyneside club surprisingly opted to hand him a one-year extension to his contract earlier in the summer.

His start to the new campaign has been similarly disappointing, even after the promise of better things when he completed 88 minutes in the first game of the season against former club West Ham.

That proved to be a false dawn for Carroll, with the towering striker not even getting close to finishing a game since. His lack of game-time may be down to the fact that he stands to earn a whopping £75k-a-week if he starts, and quite frankly, his performances haven’t shown anything to warrant the Magpies paying that amount.

With his contract coming to an end next summer, Newcastle surely have to just take a stand and call time on Carroll’s second spell at the club and rid themselves of a financial burden that must leave Mike Ashley with sleepless nights.

Exclusive: Carlton Palmer tips Grady Diangana to become a £40m+ player

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has claimed that the Baggies have a future star in Grady Diangana.

The 22-year-old made his loan move permanent in the summer for a whopping £18m, leaving behind his boyhood club West Ham United.

Last season during Albion’s promotion-winning campaign, the England U21 international provided eight goals and seven assists, per Transfermarkt.

And Palmer believes he could go onto become a player worth £40m to £50m but only on one condition, he told FFC:

“You can’t go and spend 60 or 70 million on a player.

“Still, for West Brom, you know, 12 million with add-ons I think it goes up to 18 million. It’s still a lot of money, but at least it’s a young player who’s only going to get better.

“And then at some point in the future, he might be worth £40m+ if he gets his head down and works hard.”

Diangana has found the adjustment to life in the Premier League a little bit tricky, scoring just the one goal in eight appearances.

On Sunday afternoon, manager Slaven Bilic dropped him from the starting XI for the very first time this season before he came on for a 23-minute cameo against Spurs.

His numbers across the board have regressed with the step up in quality too, averaging fewer dribbles (1.6), shots (1.1) and key passes (0.5) per game, via WhoScored.

That form earlier in the year earned him high praise indeed with Michael Brown telling Football Insider that the English talent was “unplayable at times” but we’re yet to truly see that in the big time.

He’s evidently got a long way to go and as Palmer suggests, he’s going to have to get his head down and work hard to do so.

But maybe in the future, the Baggies will have a mega-money star that they could well profit from having invested a considerable chunk of their budget on him this summer.

Chelsea: Frank Lampard willing to use Ross Barkley as part of Declan Rice deal

Chelsea’s extravagant summer spending doesn’t seem to be over yet as they continue to monitor the situation of Declan Rice.

The West Ham star is a player that Frank Lampard is very fond of and he is eager to see him return to Stamford Bridge.

A deal looked like it would be off the cards after the Irons made it clear that they wouldn’t take any less than £80million for the England international. However, an update from The Athletic has claimed that Lampard may have a way around this.

The Blues boss in on the hunt for a holding midfielder to help improve his defensive frailties. Rice is firmly the club’s first choice and they are aware that he will not come cheap. This is why Lampard is willing to table an offer of cash plus Ross Barkley, in hopes to lower the hefty asking price.

The former Everton man signed for Chelsea in 2018 and has been more of a fringe player than a starter. Although, he played a big role in the Blues’ FA Cup run – helping to knock out rivals Liverpool and scoring the winning goal over Leicester in the quarter-finals.

Barkley’s time at Chelsea has seen him score just 10 goals and make 11 assists in 85 appearances (via Transfermarkt). Perhaps not the best numbers for a midfielder but certainly an amount to help replace anything lost through the sale of Rice.

The end of the transfer window is drawing to a close and Chelsea must act fast if they want to bring in a replacement for the outbound N’Golo Kante.

Newcastle United: Allan Saint-Maximin tipped to leave as he draws focus from Wolves

Allan Saint-Maximin has been tipped to leave Newcastle United in the summer transfer window as he has drawn focus from Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to the Daily Mail.

As per the outlet, Wolves are not looking to sign too many players, but one man that they are focusing on signing is Saint-Maximin, who the publication have tipped to leave St. James’ Park.

Indeed, given his rather impressive debut season in England, this would not be good news for the Magpies if they lose him, especially to a Premier League rival.

Saint-Maximin scored three goals and made a further four assists in 26 games in the 2019/20 campaign in the top flight, while also averaging 1.8 shots, 1.3 key passes and 4.7 dribbles per game (via Whoscored).

The 23-year played a key part in keeping the Tyneside club in England’s highest division, but being a standout performer, some members of the Toon Army may be wondering at what potential cost.

If the proposed takeover in the North East is not approved by the league, then Saint-Maximin may well look elsewhere to further his ambition, and Nuno Espirito Santo’s team may fit given that they can still possibly qualify for the UEFA Champions League if they win the Europa League.

Former Tottenham Hotspur, Leeds United and England international goalkeeper Paul Robinson has previously suggested that the Frenchman could leave if the takeover collapses, so the chances of him staying could be boosted if the £300 million deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabian (KSA) group is given the green light.

Nevertheless, surely NUFC will look to keep Saint-Maximin out of the grasp of the likes of WWFC.

Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Winks set for shock exit if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joins in the summer

Harry Winks’ future at Tottenham Hotspur is in doubt, according to the Daily Mirror.

Tottenham have stepped up their attempts to sign Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, with both Spurs and Everton chasing the Saints’ former captain. The Denmark international had the captaincy stripped from him by Ralph Hasenhuttl after he refused to sign a new deal and was dropped from the squad entirely, although he has returned to action in recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear that Hojbjerg is the holding midfielder that he needs to rebuild Tottenham’s midfield. The Daily Mirror claimed that, if Mourinho gets his man, it is Winks who is most likely to leave north London in the summer.

Hojbjerg has played 33 games in the Premier League this season, supplying one assist and averaging 1.4 shots, 2.4 successful tackles and 1.5 clearances per game (via WhoScored). Meanwhile, Winks has made 30 appearances in the English top flight so far this term, with fewer than one shot and one clearance per game, as per WhoScored.

Mourinho is well aware that his transfer budget has been severely restricted by current financial circumstances, while Daniel Levy will have to balance the books to sign his top targets in the summer.

Kyle Walker-Peters, who is currently on loan at St Mary’s, could form part of a deal to take Hojbjerg to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although the Saints have not confirmed whether they want to keep him permanently when his loan expires at the end of the season.

On the other hand, Winks could be sacrificed in order for the ex-Bayern Munich ace to take his place. The Englishman was a firm favourite of former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino but has found himself in and out of the side over the course of the campaign so far, even though he has featured in every game during the Lilywhites’ recent unbeaten run.

As it stands, it seems highly likely that Winks will fall down the pecking order if Hojbjerg arrives in the summer. However, it would be a harsh decision by the board to let him leave, as the England international has become an effective distributor who picks his passes to keep play moving forward.

Indeed, he has played a key role in the supply chain in recent weeks, although it seems he does not get the credit he deserves. His exit could come as quite a shock, as his playing style has enabled Giovani Lo Celso to push further up the pitch.

Tottenham fans, should Levy sell Harry Winks in order to faciliate Hojbjerg’s arrival at Spurs? Let us know in the comments below!
