Is time up for Sanchez at Spurs?

Davinson Sanchez’s time at Tottenham Hotspur could be coming to an end this summer, if emerging reports are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old centre-back is ‘likely to leave’ amid claims linking the north London outfit with a move for impressive Fulham loanee Joachim Andersen.

Further reports have since emerged suggesting that Sanchez’s former club, Ajax, are keen to bring him back to the Eredivisie as they look for defensive reinforcements.

The 28-time Colombian international cost Spurs around £42m back in the summer of 2017 and is now thought to be worth just €30m (£26m), as per CIES Football Observatory.

Time’s up

That drastic drop-off in value is hugely concerning but only goes to show how poorly he has performed in north London. If anything, when factoring in his age, that fee should only be rising as he heads towards the peak years of his career.

Sanchez was in and out of the side under Jose Mourinho and is yet to be selected by interim boss Ryan Mason. In total, he has only made 17 appearances in the Premier League this season.

A calamitous showing against West Ham in October saw him axed for their next nine games as he was majorly at fault for Spurs throwing away a three-goal lead, and in his absence, the north Londoners rose to the top of the table.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-managerial-update-transfer-rumours-levy-mourinho-sacked-gossip” title= “Read the latest Spurs manager updates, transfer news, gossip and more!”]

That outcome was again repeated in his latest appearance for the club.

His blunder allowed Newcastle to pocket a late equaliser, leading to former ROI international Kenny Cunningham slamming him as a “real liability” and ex-Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara calling him “an absolute disgrace” – it isn’t the first time an ex-pro has lambasted the defender, either.

Writing on Twitter, Curtis Woodhouse, who used to play for Sheffield United, claimed the Mauricio Pochettino signing was “just not a very good defender” and that he “probably costs you 20 goals a season.”

Most of these players still remain from the Argentine’s tenure and given that Spurs’ Achilles heel has been defensive mistakes, it would make sense for a change at the back going into the summer.

The last thing the new manager needs is a player who has shockingly let down the two before him, so with everything considered, it’s time for Levy to be bold and ruthless and make what he can from selling Sanchez.

Predicted West Brom XI v Wolves - team, injury news

West Brom head into tonight’s clash with arch-rivals Wolves knowing that the game is a must-win, otherwise, relegation to the Championship is all but confirmed.

The Baggies are winless in two matches and that has seen them sink 11 points adrift of safety, with only five games left to play.

Sam Allardyce will need to get his team selection spot on but what sort of line-up could we see at the Hawthorns this evening?

Here’s our predicted XI as Albion battle Wolves in the Black Country derby…

Given the lack of solid options at his disposal, the 66-year-old boss could only make two changes from the side that drew 2-2 with Villa last time out.

One of which will surely come in defence after leaking five goals in the last two games.

At Villa Park, Semi Ajayi came in for Dara O’Shea, which was perhaps a little harsh given how well the Irishman has performed in the Premier League, so he could come back in but instead of changing his central defensive partnership, he could instead take the place of Darnell Furlong at right-back.

Conor Townsend is likely to keep his place on the left, with Kieran Gibbs set to leave for the MLS this summer, and that back four will be in front of coveted shot-stopper Sam Johnstone.

The other change could come in midfield as 21-year-old Chelsea gem Conor Gallagher faces the axe after making his first start in four games last weekend.

Matty Phillips will be pushing for a start under Big Sam but his inclusion would come at a cost in the middle, as Matheus Pereira would surely move centrally alongside Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with Callum Robinson continuing on the other flank.

So the £10.8m-rated loanee could be the one to make way.

Up top, Mbaye Diagne is likely to remain as the Baggies’ target man, meaning Karlan Grant and Hal Robson-Kanu have to settle for a place on the bench again.

Donizete pede 'vergonha na cara'. Victor e Robinho seguem confiantes

– F…! A gente erra, dá nisso!

Deane says Hammers should go for Johnstone

Brian Deane has exclusively told Football FanCast that goalkeeper Sam Johnstone would be a good signing for West Ham.

With the Baggies’ relegation back to the Championship now confirmed, Johnstone already has a number of Premier League sides interested in his signature, with the Hammers one of them.

And recent reports believe that they’ve now moved ahead of Tottenham in the race for the England shotstopper, who was rewarded for his outstanding form this season with his first call-up by Gareth Southgate for March’s World Cup qualifiers.

The 6 ft 4 Johnstone, who former England manager Glenn Hoddle labelled as ‘outstanding’ earlier this year, has not only made the most saves in the Premier League this season but has managed six clean sheets and even an assist from his 35 appearances.

West Ham have three senior goalkeepers currently at the club, but number one Lukasz Fabianski has just one year left on his contract and has been short of form of late, whilst his back-up, Dave Martin, will become a free agent this summer having failed to make a single first-team appearance this season.

And the former Hammers striker Deane told Football FanCast that he’s been impressed with Johnstone’s form:

“He’s saved more than anyone else in the league and certainly when I’ve seen him, he’s looked a very good player. I think he would be a good candidate.

“He’s not let anybody down at West Brom and that could be a good move.”

Everton handed Abdoulaye Doucoure boost

Everton have been handed a massive boost ahead of their clash with West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.

Although they will be missing the services of James Rodriguez again, they will be able to welcome back one of their key players from a promising campaign.

Carlo Ancelotti was speaking late this week about his team’s chances at the London Stadium and confirmed that Abdoulaye Doucoure was fit again.

He said: “He is really important. He showed fantastic quality and has supported the team a lot when he played.

“It was a great surprise for us to have this type of player. He put a lot of energy into the midfield and to have him back for the next game will be really important.”

Ancelotti concluded: “Without him, we have had more problems. He is one of the most important players we had and he has been a really good signing. I hope he can show his quality in the last games we have before the end.”

The Frenchman has been absent for seven games now dating back to March 4th. The £120k-per-week earner has been missing as a result of a small fracture in his foot.

Everton posted pictures of the midfield general back in full training this week which represents a huge advantage to their chances on Sunday.

The Toffees have been missing some muscle in the middle of the park without him with Andre Gomes struggling following his own return to injury.

The Portuguese was lumped off shortly after the hour mark against Arsenal and then won just two of his nine defensive duels in the defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.

Ancelotti appears to be buzzing that his combative midfield player is back and you can hardly blame him.

Prior to his two-month-long injury, the 28-year-old had only missed one league game all season after arriving from Watford for a fee of £20m.

Against a free-flowing West Ham side, having Doucoure back is absolutely vital. He and Allan will have a huge job on their hands if they are to stop the effervescent Jesse Lingard.

Exclusive: Spurs legend calls for Bale run

Former Tottenham Hotspur captain Graham Roberts has told The Transfer Tavern that interim coach Ryan Mason must give Gareth Bale more chances in the Spurs starting XI.

The Wales international was used sparingly at best by ex-manager Jose Mourinho, who was sacked on Monday.

Indeed, Bale made just six starts under Mourinho in the Premier League, with his seventh of the campaign coming against Southampton on Wednesday.

He was in exceptional form as he came off the bench against West Ham United in February, a game Spurs still lost 2-1, and was then given a run of games, as he started against Burnley, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

He scored four goals in those games, laying on one assist, but he struggled against the Gunners and was substituted after 57 minutes, and has played a mere 10 minutes since.

And Roberts says that he wasn’t given enough of a chance by Mourinho, while hoping that can be rectified between now and the end of the season – starting on Sunday after it was reported that Harry Kane is a doubt having failed to train on Friday.

Speaking exclusively to TT, the former UEFA Cup winner said: “No, give him a chance now. Look what happened when we played West Ham.

“He came on and totally changed the game at half-time and then he played well for the next three or four games. We played Arsenal, everybody was garbage, because of his tactics, and we haven’t seen him since.

“He’s been on that bench again, warming the bench.”

Liverpool fans flock to Pearce update on board meeting

As per an update by reliable journalist James Pearce of The Athletic, writing on Twitter, Liverpool supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly have held ‘positive’ talks with club CEO Billy Hogan over fan representation on the board of directors – with Reds fans reacting as this ‘great news’ comes to light.
