WHU: Fans react to image of Rice

Numerous fans of West Ham United have been reacting to a post on Twitter in which the Hammers shared an image of Declan Rice in action for England with the caption of “classy” and two hand-clap emojis.

So far this season, Rice has highly impressed over his 29 Premier League appearances for David Moyes’ side, with the defensive midfielder scoring one goal and providing one assist, as well as making an average of two interceptions, 1.9 tackles and 1.2 clearances per game, culminating in an average SofaScore match rating of 7.09. That ranks him as the Hammers’ fourth-best performer in the top flight.

The 22-year-old has also impressed while on international duty with England, most recently during the 2-0 win over Albania in World Cup qualifying on Sunday, a game in which Rice made five interceptions, two tackles and three clearances, earning a SofaScore match rating of 7.8.

After West Ham shared an image of Rice in action for England on Twitter, many fans of the Hammers flocked to have their say on the matter, with plenty heaping a considerable amount of praise on the midfielder. One Irons fan even dubbed the 22-year-old a “Rolls Royce of a footballer”.

So, what exactly did these West Ham United fans have to say in reaction to the image of Declan Rice?

“England’s best player plays for West Ham. What a world.”

@AndrewKane221

“My captain.”

@notorious1324

“Always is and always will be.”

@bazza123whu

“England’s best DM, no debate.”

@joehalford1990

“I don’t want him to leave West Ham but if I’m Man City, I’m getting him in as a long term replacement for Fernandinho. He is outstanding. Such a class act.”

Leeds readying transfer bid for Omar Colley

According to transfer reports, Leeds are serious about making a summer move for Sampdoria defender Omar Colley.

What’s the story?

It has been suggested in recent weeks that Marcelo Bielsa’s side are interested in signing the Gambia international in the upcoming summer transfer window as they look to strengthen the centre of their defence.

Italian publication Il Secolo XIX have claimed (via Sport Witness) that Leeds’ scouts have been left impressed by Colley and that they are now serious about signing him.

The report added that an “offer is now ‘ready’ and that Sampdoria’s request of €12m-13m (£10m-11m) ‘wouldn’t be a problem’ for the Premier League club, ‘considering higher figures have been spent on far less performing defenders’.”

Could be Leeds’ own Van Dijk

Given that Leeds signed two established centre-backs in the shape of Robin Koch and Diego Llorente just last summer, it seems somewhat surprising that Victor Orta and co are looking to sign another proven central defender – especially when they also have club captain Liam Cooper and the likes of Luke Ayling and Pascal Struijk, both of whom can fill in there too.

This season has seen Colley win 2.9 aerial duels per match, which would rank him second among Leeds’ squad for 2020/21, with only Cooper averaging higher with 3.9 per game.

Indeed, as per Whoscored, his average of 2.6 interceptions per game would rank him first in the entire Whites squad, while his 4.2 clearances per match also sees him comfortably above any of Bielsa’s current options.

Leeds only have to look at Liverpool to see the kind of transformative impact a dominant centre-back signing can have, with Virgil van Dijk playing a key role in turning the Reds into Premier League and Champions League winners since joining from Southampton.

While Colley isn’t in that same bracket perhaps just yet, the 1.92m (6 foot 3) powerhouse appears to have the kind of defensive strengths which would make him a formidable opponent for opposition attackers to overcome – in fact, his average of only being dribbled past 0.3 times per game is better than any Leeds player this season.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Latest Leeds transfer rumours and news”]

Colley is a brick wall, and while a move is slightly surprising given Leeds’ current options at centre-back, it’s one which could see the Whites land their own version of Van Dijk.

Meanwhile, Bielsa could mould his next Roberto Ayala in this Leeds starlet…

Barry Fry reveals big West Ham concern

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has told Football FanCast that West Ham have done excellent business in the January transfer window but fears for the club if Michail Antonio is injured.

The Hammers are currently fifth in the Premier League table and are continuing to push for qualification to the Champions League.

With nine games of the season remaining, David Moyes’ side are just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and seven behind Leicester City.

The Irons have a reasonable run-in too, as they only play two teams who are above them in the league: the Blues and the Foxes.

Moyes’ side have won just one of their last four games, however, which included games against Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal, and Fry thinks the club may be left in trouble if Antonio suffers an injury.

The striker has scored seven goals and laid on five assists in 20 games this season in the Premier League and is the club’s only out-and-out forward as they failed to sign a new centre-forward in the January transfer window.

Speaking exclusively to FFC, Fry hailed the signing of Jesse Lingard, who has eased the goalscoring burden on Antonio with five goals in seven games since his loan move from United, but sounded a note of caution.

He said: “In Lingard, I think that was a magnificent signing and the icing on the cake.

“I’m a little bit worried if anything happened to Antonio, they’re a bit short in that department.”

Fry revealed in a separate interview that he told West Ham to sign Ivan Toney from Peterborough United before he moved to Brentford.

100 Anos da Vila: Marcelinho Carioca perde placa e pede réplica para Pelé

MatériaMais Notícias

“Vila Belmiro é a casa do Rei.

A PINTURA

Ivan Toney gifts West Ham transfer boost

Brentford striker Ivan Toney has gifted David Moyes a huge boost in West Ham United’s rumoured plans for a summer transfer, after declaring himself Premier League ready while speaking with the Daily Mail over the weekend.

The Irons have been widely credited with an interest in the Bees’ Championship star since the winter market, when Sebastien Haller’s move to AFC Ajax left Michail Antonio as Moyes’ only recognised senior centre-forward.

Toney was considered to be one of three options topping Moyes’ shortlist for potential summer targets last month, alongside Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham.

West Ham striving to seal a deal for Toney could prove expensive, with reports by TEAMtalk suggesting Brentford will demand £30m after selling Ollie Watkins to Aston Villa for £28m rising to £33m in September. Football League World have also claimed a £35m asking price.

Either sum would be a large outlay for a player only boasting 10 minutes of Premier League football in their career, but Toney has gifted Moyes a huge boost by declaring himself ready for the step up to the top-flight.

“I feel like I’m more than ready to step up into the Premier League,” the 25-year-old said. “I feel the qualities the players have, I can fit in perfectly. The deliveries the players get, I’d be able to get on the end of crosses. I feel like I would slot into the majority of teams in the Premier League.”

Toney’s confidence on the back of a 29-goal, 10-assist and counting Championship campaign should give Moyes all the reason needed to urge West Ham to fund a summer swoop, for a player who could become the Hammers’ third-most expensive signing of all time.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-west-ham-news%2c-views-and-gossip” title=”Latest West Ham news, views and gossip!”]

Toney wasted no time in settling into life at Brentford following a 24-goal, six-assist season in League One with Peterborough United last term, with the Northampton-born frontman striking home seven times in his first six Championship appearances under Thomas Frank.

The 2019/20 League One top-scorer has continued to establish himself as a free-scoring machine in the second-tier since, with Toney topping the goal charts by four to Norwich City’s Teemu Pukki (25) and eight to fellow Irons target Adam Armstrong (21) of Blackburn Rovers.

He could now follow in the footsteps of Watkins by leaving Brentford for the Premier League, where the Aston Villa forward has 12 goals to his name and impressed Gareth Southgate to earn his England debut last month.

Toney has the potential to eclipse Watkins’ successes in the top-flight too, with Darren Bent waxing lyrical over the prolific £21,000-per-week marksman at the Villans star’s expense.

“His movement is absolutely superb – [he] senses where the danger is going to be and gets himself in there,” Bent told talkSPORT in January. “He’s good in the air and he has two good feet. But where I think he excels to a Ollie Watkins and a [Neal] Maupay is that I think he’s more clinical. In and around that box with his finishing – I think he’s more cultured to his finishing.”

Toney has scored more often in the Championship this season than Pukki and Armstrong despite taking fewer shots, with the Brentford marksman attempting 117 efforts to his rivals respective 126 and 170, per WhoScored.

He has also scored more in the air with six headed goals to Pukki’s one and Armstrong’s two, which could see Toney prove to be the ideal striker for West Ham who rank second only to Chelsea (5) for accurate crosses (4.9) per Premier League game this season.

It may take a lot for West Ham to seal a deal with Brentford, and would become increasingly complicated should the Bees secure promotion, but Moyes should be urging the London Stadium hierarchy to launch a swoop this summer.

AND in other news, a £4.5m-rated West Ham enforcer is being lined up for a summer move out of east London…

RFC: Bayern Munich want Umar Sadiq

According to recent reports, the former Glasgow Rangers centre-forward, Umar Sadiq, is a shock transfer target for German giants, Bayern Munich, this summer.

Having arrived at Rangers from AS Roma on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2018, Sadiq went on to play just 116 minutes of football for Gers, scoring no goals and providing no assists over his total of four appearances for the club, before being returned to the Serie A side just five months after his signing, with Andy Halliday suggesting that Steven Gerrard was not impressed by the Nigerian’s application in training.

However, so far this season, the 24-year-old striker has been in rather remarkable form over his 32 appearances for his new club, UD Almeria, scoring 17 goals and providing five assists for the Spanish Segunda Division side.

And, according to a recent report by Spanish publication AS, Bayern Munich are now considering making a €60 million (£52 million) move for Sadiq this summer. That fee could reportedly go even higher if Almeria earn promotion.

Transfer Tavern Take

If Halliday is to be believed, the blame cannot be attributed to Gerrard for not seeing the apparent potential of Sadiq during his spell at Rangers, as, if a player is simply not interested in putting in the effort on the training pitch, he should not be afforded an opportunity to feature in first-team fixtures.

Having said that, it is still likely that the Rangers coaching staff will be kicking themselves at how well Sadiq has done in his time since leaving Ibrox, particularly if the striker does go on to make a big-money move to Bayern this summer.

SAFC: Fans react to Johnson’s comments

Fans of Sunderland have been reacting to a post on Twitter, in which the Black Cats relayed footage of the club’s manager, Lee Johnson, discussing Tuesday’s disappointing defeat.

In a fixture that could have seen Sunderland close the gap to second-placed Peterborough United to just two points, Johnson’s side ultimately went on to blow their chance, as goals from Will Keane and Callum Lang cancelled out Charlie Wyke’s first-half opener, seeing relegation-threatened Wigan take all three points from the clash at the DW Stadium.

And, speaking in his post-match comments, Johnson was brutally honest in his assessment of Sunderland’s performance in the loss, suggesting that his side got what they deserved from the fixture because of the fact that the Black Cats simply did not do enough to win the game.

After Sunderland then relayed the manager’s comments on Twitter, fans of the club flocked to have their say on the matter, with many, despite being furious with their side’s performance, appearing to appreciate Johnson’s honesty.

So, what exactly did these Sunderland fans have to say in reaction to Lee Johnson’s comments?

“Listen tonight was dreadful and something we should expect from a team full of bottlers but fans calling for LJ’s head, come on. He has been fitting square pegs in round holes, it’s not his fault. These players were the cheap options brought in by SD and are simply not good enough.”

@gazk_mackem

“At least he is honest. Maybe a few of the players might look in the mirror and do the same.”

@N88YTH

“Boss says it as it is. Players didn’t do it tonight, cost us automatic that.”

@John67684101

“Brutal and honest assessment.”

@DanielJenks89

“Beaten man.”

@michaelfrost73

“Honest and visibly livid, sometimes you have to appreciate that. He could have covered it up but didn’t and I like it personally.”

@Doominick99

“Bang on.”

Lawyer of Gers’ Kamara discusses Kudela

The lawyer of Glasgow Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara believes the police now have enough evidence to charge Ondrej Kudela for “racially aggravated conduct”.

Kamara lawyer discusses case

Aamer Anwar is representing Finland international Kamara after he accused Kudela of racist abuse during the Europa League round of 16 clash between the Gers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox.

Speaking about the progression of the case, Anwar said (via The Herald):

“The police have now gathered evidence including CCTV as well as statements from witnesses that we believe would corroborate sufficient evidence for a criminal charge of a ‘racially aggravated conduct’ by Kudela – in that it is alleged he intended to cause Glen Kamara alarm or distress and his conduct was motivated by malice and ill-will because of Glen’s race.

“If Police Scotland believe there is sufficiency of evidence, then they can swiftly move to a charge of a Section 50A(1)(b) offence under Criminal Procedure Scotland Act 1995, that would mean that Mr Kudela would be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Mr Kudela could then be served with a citation to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date and ultimately at a trial if he does plead guilty in advance.”

FinallyFinally, it seems that we may be close to some sort of outcome in regards to this case. Since the game was played on March 18th, there have been accusations thrown back and forth – Slavia have accused Kamara of striking Kudela on the back of the head in the tunnel (slavia.cz), while there have also been suggestions Nicolae Stanciu received abuse from a Rangers player (eFotbal.cz).It remains to be seen whether Kudela is actually found guilty, but putting together a strong case is a start. The result of the impending trial is important – whatever verdict is reached will send out a message in regards to the fight against racism.In other news, Rangers are said to be interested in this 27-goal striker.
