Newcastle face competition to sign Kuchta

Newcastle United reportedly face competition from other clubs in the Premier League to sign Jan Kuchta, according to Football Insider.

As per the news outlet, the St. James’ Park faithful as well as West Ham United, Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion watched the Slavia Prague ace in their 1-1 draw at home to Rangers in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening.

Newcastle should sign Kuchta

The North East club should be looking to sign Kuchta in the summer transfer window and thus beat off all competition from their rivals for his signature.

The 24-year-old has no fewer than 20 goal contributions already so far in the 2020/21 term, with 13 goals and a further seven assists in total in just 25 games over all competitions (Transfermarkt).

With a six-foot frame as well, he should have no problems adapting to the physical demands of the top flight, and can take immense encouragement from just how well both Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal have done at the Hammers having come from the same club as him.

Nonetheless, Kuchta is certainly a striker that the Tyneside club should be keeping an eye on, as he is more than capable of easing off the goal scoring burden off of Callum Wilson.

Celtic’s predicted XI to face Dundee United

Celtic face Dundee on Sunday afternoon knowing that a defeat could hand the title to their fiercest rivals. No pressure, then, John Kennedy.

This has been a tortuous campaign for the Hoops but, fortunately for them, it’s set to conclude shortly.

They are miles off the pace in the Premiership and, if they win this weekend, it will give Rangers the opportunity to take home the league at Parkhead in a week’s time. If there was anything to sum up Celtic’s season in a nutshell, that would be it.

Gone are the days of Neil Lennon but not even the thought of a new manager arriving in the not-too-distant future will cure the idea of their city rivals winning the title.

Consequently, Celtic’s game with Dundee this weekend is one of huge significance, so Kennedy must get his selection spot on. Here’s the XI we’re predicting.

We are tipping the interim manager to make two changes from his side which defeated Aberdeen a week ago.

The first change to note is in midfield, where Ryan Christie is dropped from the XI. With just a solitary goal in his last 24 matches, he is hardly up to the task of digging Celtic out of a hole. As a result, David Turnbull takes his place as the number 10 and chief creator.

That will allow Ismaila Soro to come into the side and make just his second start for the Hoops since the end of January.

The remaining change is in attack. Patryk Kilmala was diabolical last weekend when given a rare chance to start. The Pole missed a golden opportunity to score and managed a measly five passes in just over an hour on the field. With that in mind, Leigh Griffiths comes back to partner Odsonne Edouard.

The 30-year-old hasn’t started since being taken off at half-time in Celtic’s 2-1 defeat to St Mirren at the end of January.

That being said, behind Edouard, he has the second-best goals-to-game ratio out of the club’s centre-forward options. Griffiths undeniably feels like the best bet right now if Kennedy wants to operate with a two-pronged attack.

AND in other news, Forget Christie: Kennedy must axe “soul-destroying” Celtic flop who made just 5 passes…

West Ham were urged to sign 28-goal star

Peterborough United Director of Football Barry Fry has told Football FanCast that he told West Ham United’s owners David Gold and David Sullivan to sign Ivan Toney.

Toney has become a star during his time at Brentford, moving to the club back in 2020, with the Championship club paying £10m to bring him in.

The 25-year-old made 94 appearances for Posh, scoring 49 goals in all competitions, while also laying on 15 assists.

Since his move to Brentford, he has gone from strength to strength and has netted 28 goals in 40 outings, netting in all of his last three Championship games.

West Ham have been heavily linked with Toney in recent weeks, with one report from Eurosport claiming that he will become a target this summer.

Fry has now revealed to FFC that he spoke with Gold and Sullivan before Toney moved to Brentford, insisting that he could have been a star at the London Stadium if he’d made the move.

He said: “I spoke to David Sullivan and David Gold last year at great length and I said he’s the best centre-forward we’ve had.

“He’s not only a goalscorer, he scored 49 goals for us in 92 games in two seasons. But it wasn’t only his goalscoring efforts, he also made a lot of goals and he also was our best defender. He headed the ball out more than anybody else, from free kicks and corners from the opposition.

“He was absolutely magnificent and I recommended him highly.”

Toney has a contract with Brentford until 2025 and is valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt.

West Brom: Snodgrass must start vs Everton

West Brom will be looking to continue their recent form on Thursday night as they welcome one of Sam Allardyce’s former sides, Everton, to The Hawthorns.

On the face of it, things are starting to turn around for the 66-year-old, having steered his side to an unbeaten run of three matches, in which they have conceded only one goal.

However, the test of the Toffees is a big one as they too have enjoyed an upturn in results, winning back-to-back league outings to move into seventh place, and a win here would see them move into the top four.

Big Sam may find it hard to alter much of his starting lineup considering they have not lost in three games, but there is one move he should make…

On the Chalkboard

January arrival and Premier League veteran Robert Snodgrass should be available for selection following injury, having missed the draw to Burnley and the win over Brighton.

Speaking ahead of the encounter, Allardyce said, via Albion’s official website: “He’s back in the squad and ready to go.”

Therefore, he should come straight back in as his experience (169 PL appearances) and know-how will be invaluable against Carlo Ancelotti’s men, particularly in battling their impressive attack of Richarlison, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and James Rodriguez.

The latter of which is likely to be Snodgrass’ opposite number, if selected.

Ancelotti hinted that he could well be available to face the Baggies this week, so Allardyce must prepare to face either him or Alex Iwobi on that right flank, which is where the Scotsman comes in.

Rodriguez is Everton’s joint-second top goalscorer on five goals, while only one other player has provided more assists (four), via WhoScored, so straight away, it is clear to see how important he is to the Toffees’ cause.

Similarly. the World Cup sensation tops the charts for creating chances, averaging 2.1 key passes per 90 minutes. By comparison, this is the same number we’ve seen from Matheus Pereira this term, and we know how reliant Albion can be on him as a playmaking outlet.

The 33-year-old veteran seems well-equipped to deal with whatever is thrown his way. He sits second amongst this West Brom squad for tackles per game (2.5), which is a telling sign of his relentless work-rate as he’s often deployed as a winger.

This means he’s tracking back and helping out his defence – he could form quite the wall alongside Conor Towsend on that left flank to thwart and silence the threat that Rodriguez possesses.

Snodgrass is even managing two clearances and nearly five duels won per game, which only bolsters his capability to stop the opposition in their tracks.

The versatile £20k-per-week gem has been dubbed the “whole package” and a “huge character” since joining the Baggies at the start of the year, and he’s exactly the sort of player you bring straight back in when available.

He simply must start instead of Matty Phillips against the Toffees on Thursday night.

AND in other news, £11.7m-rated West Brom “genius” is now suffering massively under Allardyce…

Iheanacho inspires Leicester vs MUFC

Leicester City booked their first FA Cup semi-final place with a stunning 3-1 victory against Manchester United on Sunday evening.

Kelechi Iheanacho scored twice, with Youri Tielemans getting the other as the Foxes scythed through the Red Devils despite Mason Greenwood’s first-half equaliser at the King Power Stadium.

The Nigerian striker followed up his hat-trick against Sheffield United with another all-action showing, inspiring Brendan Rodgers’ men through to the last-four where they will now meet Southampton at Wembley Stadium.

Iheanacho was a threat to the Red Devils from the off, with his constant pressing a thorn in the side of the visitors.

That paid dividends midway through the first-half as he picked off a poor Fred backpass to round Dean Henderson and score with a low finish.

He then doubled his afternoon’s work with a well-guided header from Marc Albrighton’s free-kick to take his goal count to 12 for the season and a remarkable nine since early February in all competitions.

Iheanacho’s excellent performance did not just end with his goals however.

According to WhoScored, he had two shots on target, both of them finding the net, whilst also producing a dribble and drawing as many as three fouls – more than any player on either side.

His creativity was also eye-catching as well, contributing a further three key passes, with just Marc Albrighton contributing more than the former Manchester City man.

Whilst he was a threat to the Red Devils throughout the 90 minutes in an attacking sense, Iheanacho also contributed defensively, too.

He racked-up two tackles and two interceptions in what ended up to be an energy sapping 90 minutes.

Considering his performances in recent weeks, including his performance against Manchester United, Iheanacho is certainly earning his £60k per-week wages.

O JOGO

Spurs should start Sissoko vs Dinamo

It’s fair to say that this season has been a particularly strange one for Moussa Sissoko at Tottenham.

The Frenchman started the campaign as one of Jose Mourinho’s trusted lieutenants in the middle of the park, even going on a run of starting 11 consecutive Premier League games from early October to mid-December.

The turn of the year has seen him fall out of favour somewhat, with Tanguy Ndombele’s real emergence onto the scene a key factor behind his French compatriot taking a back-seat – the former Lyon man had started the previous 13 top-flight games before being rested against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

In comparison, Sissoko hasn’t completed the full 90 minutes in the league since the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in early February. But, with a crucial game against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League on Thursday night, the £16.2m-rated powerhouse should be restored to the starting line-up.

With the first leg at home, Mourinho wil,l of course, want to get off to a good start, certainly picking up a win before the return fixture. But, perhaps most importantly, is ensuring Zagreb don’t get a potentially damaging away goal and give themselves something to hold on to when they head back to Croatia.

Sissoko’s introduction into the side would give Spurs a bit more protection and energy in front of the back four, and help to ensure that Zagreb can’t catch the north London side slacking on counter-attacks or in transitions – the Frenchman averages over one tackle and interception apiece this season, with his 1.2 interceptions per game actually ranking him second among all his teammates.

Speaking just last season, Kevin Phillips raved about Sissoko’s ability, saying: “At one point Kane, Son and, Sissoko were the first names on the teamsheet. We keep speaking about Son and Kane and Sissoko goes under the radar. He is a superb player – power, pace and travels with the ball really well. He can take the ball in tight situations with his strength.”

In a piece for The Athletic last year, they wrote: “While he has never been famed for his distribution, Sissoko’s hunger to win the ball back in transitions also stood out last season. It’s tempting to put his skill at doing this down to athleticism alone but Sissoko also possesses a positional intelligence that is often — there’s that word again — underrated. That’s certainly the view of one of his former coaches, who points to the way he anticipates danger and makes tackles.”

That midfield control and protection is something Mourinho will absolutely need, particularly in European competitions, and Sissoko’s return to the side would help offer that. He could well be the Spurs boss’ game-changer, from a defensive standpoint in particular, when Dinamo come to town tonight.

Meanwhile, Spurs played a blinder by selling this man for £17m…

Celtic: Keane unlikely to become new boss

Celtic’s search for a new manager has really gathered pace over the last few days but unfortunately for majority shareholder Dermot Desmond, he still no closer to uncovering Neil Lennon’s successor.

Roy Keane has been the favourite in the last week but fresh claims have quashed those rumours.

What’s the word?

Last week, it quickly became apparent that Keane was leading the race to become the new manager of Celtic.

Football Insider revealed that discussions and an interview had even taken place. However, in a remarkable twist, it now looks like the Irishman is unlikely to head back to Parkhead.

The Times have sources close to Keane in Ireland who have revealed that a Celtic reunion is doubtful.

Keane turned down the Hoops job in 2014 and he looks set to miss out on the hot seat once again.

Amazing news for supporters

When it emerged that Keane was in the running to become the new manager of Celtic, it was not very well received by plenty of the club’s supporters.

Well followed Bhoys podcaster Paul John Dykes admitted that news of the Manchester United legend’s potential arrival had gone down like a led balloon with fans.

You can see why, too. Keane hasn’t managed for the best part of ten years and he didn’t exactly achieve a great deal during his time with Sunderland and then Ipswich.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-celtic-manager-and-transfer-news-roy-keane-nicky-butt-jesse-marsch-scott-brown” title=”Latest Celtic manager and transfer news!”]

He got the Mackems promoted but his win percentage during the course of his managerial career speaks volumes. The 49-year-old has a pretty disastrous win rate of just 38.7%.

The television pundit has taken guidance from Martin O’Neill during his three spells as assistant manager under him. However, with that in mind, it feels like Keane is more equipped to be a number two.

News that the former midfielder is now less likely to be given the reins at Paradise should be music to the ears of supporters.

Desmond can now turn to alternatives. Chris Wilder has been linked, a manager we’ve suggested is a better option for the Bhoys.

AND in other news, Bye-bye Edouard: Celtic must swoop for 28-goal “sensation” who’ll “go to the very top”…
