Southampton: Saints eye Jack Veale

According to Football Insider, Southampton are interested in Exeter City youngster Jack Veale.

Veale eyed by Hasenhuttl

It seems that the Saints are set for a Premier League transfer battle for the 18-year-old. Brighton are also interested in the teenager, it would appear, and the two sides are the leading the hunt ahead of the January transfer window.

Veale was in action on Wednesday for Exeter in the FA Youth Cup and netted twice in a 3-1 victory.

Next Ollie Watkins

Inevitably, Veale has been compared to arguably the most famous Exeter youth product in recent years, Ollie Watkins. After 26 goals in 78 games for the club, the striker joined Brentford, where he netted 25 times in 46 matches in the Championship last term.

That form saw him sold to Aston Villa during the summer, with the Villans paying a club-record fee of £28m for his services. He has already hit the ground running in the Premier League as well, netting six times in nine games.

If Veale can go on to achieve anything like what Watkins has done so far, then he could be a very interesting purchase for the Saints. And given his age, he wouldn’t set them back too much at the moment. This is definitely a low risk high reward type of deal Ralph Hasenhuttl and co should seriously consider.

In other news, Southampton fans are delighted by this huge development.

Loris Karius must accept he will never be Liverpool’s first-choice again

Outcast goalkeeper Loris Karius was shipped out on loan for the third consecutive season last month after agreeing terms for a one-year stint with Union Berlin. The German will return to his home country to try and remake a name for himself after his nightmarish Champions League performance two years ago.

However, it seems that all this loaning out has gotten to Karius, who recently admitted he isn’t sure what lies ahead at Anfield.

“I still have a few more years of contract with Liverpool, and I don’t know what the situation will look like next summer,” he told BILD (via Sport Witness). He also said that he is looking to be selected every week and realistically, that isn’t something he can expect to happen at Liverpool.

Love lost between Liverpool and Karius

Many Reds fans still haven’t forgiven Karius for his catastrophe inbetween the posts on that fateful day in 2018. As soon as he gifted Karim Benzema Real Madrid’s opening goal, everything began to spiral for the former Germany U21 international. His calamitous errors would go on to see him dropped indefinitely by the manager, before bringing in long-term replacement Alisson.

Indeed, Karius hasn’t played a single minute of football in a Liverpool shirt since the Champions League final. That’s a whopping 871 days away from the action and it’s hard to see any sort of comeback for him at this stage. Even with Adrian’s recent worrying form, Liverpool are outsourcing for a replacement rather than calling upon Karius again.

The German was slammed by pundits for his infamous errors, with many judging his decision-making as far below the quality it should be.

The shot-stopper’s current contract expires in 2022, which gives Klopp a good amount of time to decide if they are looking to cash in on him or just let the months tick down. With a measly Transfermarkt value of just £2.8million, it’s unlikely Liverpool will get much of a deal for him. However, the Merseysiders signed him for a fee of £4.7million, so Michael Edwards may be satisfied with just taking the loss this time.

Everton: Fans slam Ronald Koeman interest in Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Loads of Everton fans were left fuming over the possible exit of Dominic Calvert-Lewin to play under Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.

According to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo (via The Toffee Blues), the former Everton manager is interested in reuniting with the 23-year old in Spain.

Incidentally, Calvert-Lewin did not have the best of times playing under Koeman, as he only managed to score four goals and provide three assists in 28 games in all competitions at Goodison Park, as per Transfermarkt.

However, the striker has been much-improved so far this term, scoring no fewer than nine goals in just six matches over all competitions, including scoring a hat-trick in two separate games (per Transfermarkt).

Therefore, it is perhaps not a surprise that Koeman is interested in signing him, and the Dutchman may well make his move in the January transfer window.

Everton fan reaction to possible Calvert-Lewin exit

These Everton supporters on Twitter were raging over the possibility of Calvert-Lewin leaving the Toffees:

Celtic have a new Van Dijk in Kristoffer Ajer but that only spells trouble

Celtic may have unearthed a new Virgil van Dijk at Parkhead but this could spell trouble sooner rather than later.

Back in the summer of 2013, Neil Lennon secured the emerging Dutch prospect in a £2.6m move from Groningen with the Hoops chief claiming: “Delighted that we have acquired Virgil van Dijk… a highly talented young player.”

And boy did they sign a good’un. He went onto feature 115 times for the Scottish giants before earning a £13m switch to the Premier League.

Van Dijk soon continued his meteoric rise, becoming the most expensive defender ever when Liverpool splashed out £75m for his signature in late 2017.

This scenario could soon be repeated with the January transfer window soon on the horizon.

Kristoffer Ajer has enjoyed an impressive start to the season at Celtic Park, the 22-year-old has averaged 3.2 aerials won, 2.9 clearances and 1.5 tackles per game, via WhoScored.

His teammate Christopher Jullien believes he’s a “unique talent” who’s “on the rise” whilst assistant manager John Kennedy once dubbed him a “warrior”.

Lennon can count his lucky stars that they managed to keep hold of him despite their exit from the Champions League and amid interest from the Premier League and across Europe.

Ajer was mooted with a move away constantly throughout the summer window with AC Milan a name that frequently popped up. The likes of West Brom, Spurs and even the Premier League champions themselves were also linked with interest.

It certainly feels like another van Dijk situation is brewing here, perhaps even more so after well-earned comparisons between the two.

Speaking to Football Insider, Alex McLeish said: “He’s been an influential player for them. Running from defence, augment the attack and then it leads to a goal – these are inspirational moments and he is an inspirational, influential player for Celtic. He mentions [interest] he’s getting from top Italian teams then it tells you how far Ajer has progressed in the game. Like Virgil van Dijk, he came to Celtic and we all know what happened next.”

Whilst the similarities between van Dijk and Ajer’s playing style has previously been noted by the Herald too.

It’s surely a matter of time before the 6 foot 6 colossus earns a move to bigger and better things, and that should worry Peter Lawwell and co immensely as they’re going to have to open the chequebook to find a viable successor sooner rather than later.

Everton: Noel Whelan says Richarlison will be missed v Newcastle United

Noel Whelan thinks that Richarlison will be a big miss for Everton versus Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Leeds United striker believes that the Brazil international may have been a key player for the Goodison Park faithful in getting all three points at St. James’ Park and also tipped Bernard to come in as his replacement instead of Alex Iwobi:

“Richarlison for me is one that is a massive loss. Iwobi didn’t take his opportunity so Bernard might come in, I think, on that side, linking up play.

“Iwobi, for me, has done nothing since he’s come to Everton and he’s not pushed Richarlison or any of the front three, to be honest with you. If he starts the game, I’ll be very, very surprised, I think it might be an opportunity for somebody else.

“Richarlison is going to be a massive miss.”

Richarlison is a ‘standout’ player for Everton

Indeed, Richarlison has been and still is a ‘standout’ player for the Merseyside club, and thus could be greatly missed by Carlo Ancelotti’s team against the Magpies as Whelan suggests.

The 23-year old has scored no fewer than 33 goals and made a further eight assists in 86 games in all competitions for the Toffees over the last three consecutive terms (Transfermarkt).

His eye for a goal could have been vital in a tough away game in the top flight, but he will miss the match versus the Toon through suspension following his straight red card against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

Richarlison has been great so far this season

Indeed, Richarlison has been brilliant so far this season, winning a quite staggering 9.6 of his duels per game in England’s highest division, as well as averaging 3.2 successful dribbles and 2.2 shots per game (Sofascore).

However, he will not be able to carry on his fine form in the versus Newcastle tomorrow afternoon, and as Whelan has claimed, the striker may well turn out to be a huge loss for the Blues.

Exclusive: Carlton Palmer tips Grady Diangana to become a £40m+ player

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, former West Brom midfielder Carlton Palmer has claimed that the Baggies have a future star in Grady Diangana.

The 22-year-old made his loan move permanent in the summer for a whopping £18m, leaving behind his boyhood club West Ham United.

Last season during Albion’s promotion-winning campaign, the England U21 international provided eight goals and seven assists, per Transfermarkt.

And Palmer believes he could go onto become a player worth £40m to £50m but only on one condition, he told FFC:

“You can’t go and spend 60 or 70 million on a player.

“Still, for West Brom, you know, 12 million with add-ons I think it goes up to 18 million. It’s still a lot of money, but at least it’s a young player who’s only going to get better.

“And then at some point in the future, he might be worth £40m+ if he gets his head down and works hard.”

Diangana has found the adjustment to life in the Premier League a little bit tricky, scoring just the one goal in eight appearances.

On Sunday afternoon, manager Slaven Bilic dropped him from the starting XI for the very first time this season before he came on for a 23-minute cameo against Spurs.

His numbers across the board have regressed with the step up in quality too, averaging fewer dribbles (1.6), shots (1.1) and key passes (0.5) per game, via WhoScored.

That form earlier in the year earned him high praise indeed with Michael Brown telling Football Insider that the English talent was “unplayable at times” but we’re yet to truly see that in the big time.

He’s evidently got a long way to go and as Palmer suggests, he’s going to have to get his head down and work hard to do so.

But maybe in the future, the Baggies will have a mega-money star that they could well profit from having invested a considerable chunk of their budget on him this summer.

Greenwood and Tuanzebe start, Paul Pogba misses out: Manchester United Predicted XI vs Southampton

Manchester United will be all too aware that they can move above Manchester City in the Premier League as they prepare for today’s clash at Southampton.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side currently sit behind City in the table but can move above their fierce rivals if they beat the Saints on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils return to Premier League action for the first time since beating West Bromwich Albion in a 1-0 win at Old Trafford as they travel to St Mary’s to take on Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side, who are unbeaten in their past seven games in all competitions so far this season.

United battered Istanbul Basaksehir on Tuesday evening and may look to keep most of the same team in place for what could be another big game for Solskjaer.

You’d expected United to get at least something against the Saints; after all, they haven’t lost in the last nine times the two sides have met.

Here is our predicted line-up for Manchester United this afternoon.

Solskjaer could hand second-choice goalkeeper Dean Henderson his first start for his boyhood club in the Premier League amid reports that he is expected to replace David de Gea between the sticks.

It’s hard to imagine many changes to the back four, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Alex Telles and Harry Maguire likely to start. Maybe Victor Lindelof could keep his place, although there are concerns over his match fitness, so we’re backing Axel Tuanzebe to earn a recall as he has impressed in the Champions League so far this season.

Both Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba reportedly face a race against time to be declared fit to face Southampton at St Mary’s, whilst Jesse Lingard has returned to first-team training after completing a period of self-isolation.

Whilst Sunday’s game may come too soon for Pogba, it’s unlikely the Frenchman will start, which provides Solskjaer with the perfect opportunity to test Donny van de Beek.

Edinson Cavani offered very little going forwards against Istanbul in the Champions League, so switching Marcus Rashford back to the left and bringing Mason Greenwood back into the starting line-up on the right could be a shrewd move, whilst Anthony Martial is likely to lead the line.

AND in other news, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must unleash Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek vs Southampton…
