Tottenham Hotspur: Danny Rose’s exit is ‘inevitable’, claims The Athletic

Tottenham ace Danny Rose has had quite a dramatic turn in fortunes ever since Spurs broke Manchester City’s hearts at the Etihad Stadium in 2019.

Rose was part of the side who knocked City out of the Champions League en route to the final last season. This week, he suffered the ignominy of being battered as Newcastle United were subjected to a 5-0 defeat at the venue yesterday evening.

His old teammate and close friend Kyle Walker lined up against him as City ran riot over the Magpies, rubbing salt in the wound even further. At one point, the pair formed a formidable partnership at White Hart Lane, but their careers have headed in opposite directions ever since they left north London.

According to The Athletic, Rose’s exit from Tottenham is “inevitable,” as neither side wants the other. The 30-year-old and Jose Mourinho have been in constant communication via text, although there isn’t any love lost between their pair.

Spurs are open to offers for the defender, which they hope will arrive in the summer, while Rose is looking for a long-term deal.

Questions still remain over where he will end up next as he feels he still has plenty to offer. Spurs valued him at £50m several years ago, when he was at the peak of his powers and the subject of interest from Manchester United.

However, it is hard to imagine they will be able to find someone willing to spend such a substantial amount of money on the 30-year-old, given the unprecedented market circumstances.

The Lilywhites have accepted that his market value has plummeted and are prepared to sell him for £5m as he is not expected to play for the club again. Watford, Paris Saint-Germain and Schalke are some of the clubs that have been interested in the past.

Rose signed an extension to stay at Newcastle United until the end of the season. The 30-year-old, who is best friends with former Arsenal star Danny Welbeck, will soon enter the final year of his contract at Spurs and Steve Bruce is eager to tie him down to a permanent deal on Tyneside.

A move to St James’ Park seems most plausible, as he has spent the past few months there, but Spurs should not rule out other potential suitors if the right offer arrives.

The Lilywhites will want to cut their losses as quickly as possible, as they will want to turn their transfer attention elsewhere, so fans should not expect a protracted transfer battle for Rose.

Alasdair Gold tips Ryan Sessegnon to make Spurs breakthrough

According to Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold, Ryan Sessegnon could make a breakthrough into the first-team at Tottenham before the end of this season.

What did he say?

The England youth international has had a rocky start to his career at Spurs, with various injury problems restricting him to just 12 appearances across all competitions – in total, he has only played 341 minutes of Premier League football.

Whilst Sessegnon has been a peripheral figure this season, Gold has insisted that Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho remains a big fan of the former Fulham ace, and that should their chances of finishing in the top five go, he could be one of the main beneficiaries.

He said: “Mourinho likes him and wanted him at United. For now it’s about building him up & working on his defensive skills. Mourinho told me he sees him as a terrific future left-back, with similar traits to Ashley Cole, but he’s not ready yet. It’s telling that he looks to have bulked up during lockdown which will aid his development. I’d be surprised if he’s loaned out a year after being bought for £30m.

“Same with (Oliver) Skipp, I think if top 5 chances go then you’ll see a lot of the younger players given chances to stake their claim for a more regular spot. He’s had a tough season with injury and he’s still got a lot of work to do. He’s got such a high ceiling though.”

Opportunity

After drawing against Manchester United and beating West Ham, Spurs are firmly in the race for Champions League football next season. With Manchester City’s place in the competition under threat, a fifth-placed finish may well be enough this season, and currently, Mourinho’s side lie just four points behind that spot.

Is it Mido or Pedro Mendes? This Spurs quiz will separate the loyal from the fake…

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

If the Lilywhites somehow collapse over these coming games, then Sessegnon may well be given the chance to shine towards the last couple of weeks of the campaign. But with there being so much to play for, it’s difficult to see how Mourinho would be confident enough in throwing a young starlet who has barely played into the deep end.

Sessegnon’s time is likely to come next season rather than this as Gold suggests.

Spurs £25m target Josh King could be the perfect foil for Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur are still yet to resolve one of their lingering problems and fresh reports hint that could yet rumble on…

What’s the word?

According to Football Insider, Spurs have been joined in the race to sign relegated AFC Bournemouth striker Josh King by Serie A giants AC Milan.

It’s claimed that the 28-year-old looks set to leave the Cherries this summer with just a year left remaining on his current contract, so the Championship newcomers would be open to listening to offers.

Sky Sports reported in June that four of the Premier League’s top six were also keen on the Norweigen forward whilst The Sun have mooted a £25m fee to secure his signature.

Perfect foil

It is no secret that Spurs need another striker as they failed to replace veteran Fernando Llorente last summer – and it would come back to haunt them at the start of 2020.

Harry Kane’s injury on New Year’s Day led to Spurs being knocked out of the FA Cup and the Champions League with players playing out of position in his absence. His return post-lockdown saw them claw back a top-six place thanks to the Englishman’s seven goals.

The north London faithful should be no strangers to King as Mauricio Pochettino wanted him back in 2017 after a goal-laden campaign.

King’s eight goals and four assists weren’t enough to prevent the Cherries’ relegation, but it could hint towards him being the perfect foil for Spurs’ frontline, especially given his versatility to play anywhere in attack.

The 46-cap international averaged 2 dribbles and 1.2 key passes per game this season, via WhoScored, which suggests he could be in a similar mould to Kane despite being 5 foot 11.

Ex-Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe’s praise for King should be enough to convince anyone of parting with eight figures, too, he once told Match of the Day: “Josh is outstanding physically, technically and mentally – he has the complete package, a little bit of everything.”

This one seems like a no-brainer for those at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

AND in other news, Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has to unleash “huge talent” on the PL this season…

Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Winks set for shock exit if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg joins in the summer

Harry Winks’ future at Tottenham Hotspur is in doubt, according to the Daily Mirror.

Tottenham have stepped up their attempts to sign Southampton star Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this summer, with both Spurs and Everton chasing the Saints’ former captain. The Denmark international had the captaincy stripped from him by Ralph Hasenhuttl after he refused to sign a new deal and was dropped from the squad entirely, although he has returned to action in recent weeks.

Jose Mourinho has made it clear that Hojbjerg is the holding midfielder that he needs to rebuild Tottenham’s midfield. The Daily Mirror claimed that, if Mourinho gets his man, it is Winks who is most likely to leave north London in the summer.

Hojbjerg has played 33 games in the Premier League this season, supplying one assist and averaging 1.4 shots, 2.4 successful tackles and 1.5 clearances per game (via WhoScored). Meanwhile, Winks has made 30 appearances in the English top flight so far this term, with fewer than one shot and one clearance per game, as per WhoScored.

Mourinho is well aware that his transfer budget has been severely restricted by current financial circumstances, while Daniel Levy will have to balance the books to sign his top targets in the summer.

Kyle Walker-Peters, who is currently on loan at St Mary’s, could form part of a deal to take Hojbjerg to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, although the Saints have not confirmed whether they want to keep him permanently when his loan expires at the end of the season.

On the other hand, Winks could be sacrificed in order for the ex-Bayern Munich ace to take his place. The Englishman was a firm favourite of former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino but has found himself in and out of the side over the course of the campaign so far, even though he has featured in every game during the Lilywhites’ recent unbeaten run.

As it stands, it seems highly likely that Winks will fall down the pecking order if Hojbjerg arrives in the summer. However, it would be a harsh decision by the board to let him leave, as the England international has become an effective distributor who picks his passes to keep play moving forward.

Indeed, he has played a key role in the supply chain in recent weeks, although it seems he does not get the credit he deserves. His exit could come as quite a shock, as his playing style has enabled Giovani Lo Celso to push further up the pitch.

Tottenham fans, should Levy sell Harry Winks in order to faciliate Hojbjerg’s arrival at Spurs? Let us know in the comments below!

Arsenal news: Mikel Arteta dealt a huge blow as Lyon reject offer for Aouar

Lyon’s Houssem Aouar has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the ongoing summer transfer window. The 22-year-old midfielder is certainly a hot prospect in the market and it doesn’t exactly come as a surprise following his great season over in France.

Arsenal are one of the firm admirers of the player and Mikel Arteta has already submitted a £31.2m transfer offer that also included one of the Gunners’ own player.

However, according to the latest reports from RMC Sport (via TalkSPORT), Lyon have now rejected the offer as they still value their star at around £45m.

Of course, we don’t exactly know the identity of the player who was reportedly offered to the French outfit but there is some suspicion it might have been Matteo Guendouzi. Seeing how he has been frozen out of the squad by Arteta, it would make sense for the Gunners to try and offload him this summer.

Manchester City were also one of the clubs mentioned as interested in Aouar but so far, it seems that Arsenal are in a better position or simply pushing for the transfer more.

Be that as it may, Arteta will still have to improve his offer if he is to land the coveted 22-year-old. Nowadays, no player comes cheap, especially a young star such as Aouar.

Only time will tell how successful Arsenal will be in their pursuit.

Verdict

Adding one of the players into the deal does seem like a good opportunity for Arsenal to offload some of the ‘deadwood’ from the team. However, it’s becoming painfully obvious that Lyon value their star too much to just accept any player from the Emirates.

For that reason, it would be wise for Arteta to up his offer just a little bit unless he wants to see this big opportunity pass him by.

Manchester United: Red Devils receive huge boost as Dortmund are ready to sell Jadon Sancho for right price

Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Jadon Sancho to Manchester United “for the right price.”

The Red Devils have received a huge boost in the race to sign Sancho this summer, as Dortmund are willing to let him leave on one condition.

According to The Independent’s Miguel Delaney, the Germans will sell for the right price and Man United are expected to start negotiations with a basic fee of £55m, including a series of clauses and conditions that could take it to somewhere in the region of £80m.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified Sancho as the signing he needs to rebuild the Red Devils and take them to the next level.

Recent reports revealed Dortmund are stepping up contingency plans to prepare for his exit in the summer, which Delaney has now confirmed.

The Bundesliga challengers are sizing up a move for Werder Bremen’s Milot Rashica as a suitable replacement.

As it stands, everything seems to point towards Sancho ending up at Old Trafford sooner rather than later, but as is often the case with United, there is an added catch.

Although all parties involved are confident a deal can be completed, the decision ultimately hinges on whether or not the Red Devils will qualify for the Champions League.

While that may be a bit extreme, Sancho’s camp have insisted that Champions League qualification could make-or-break the deal, which is one reason why it hasn’t happened yet.

Suddenly, the stakes seem even higher when Solskjaer’s side travel to Leicester City on Sunday. United now need a point not only to reach Europe’s premier competition, but also to bring Sancho back to England in the summer.

United fans, do you think Ed Woodward will sign Sancho this summer? Let us know down below!

Manchester United: Solskjaer has no intention of dropping David de Gea; may annoy Dean Henderson

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has no intention of dropping David De Gea following his 400th game for Manchester United.

According to ESPN, De Gea’s place as first-choice goalkeeper has come under pressure in recent years, but Solskjaer insisted he has no plans of axing him anytime soon.

Once again, Solskjaer has decided to back the Spaniard, which could be bad news for the Red Devils as this may annoy Dean Henderson.

The Norwegian is not short of options between the sticks, as he can call upon the services of Sergio Romero, while Henderson has impressed on loan at Sheffield United.

De Gea, who is currently valued at £36m via Transfermarkt, has copped a fair amount of criticism following a dip in form, but Solskjaer has put his faith in the veteran, who signed a new long-term contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2024.

Although the Red Devils have offered Henderson a new deal, he has made it abundantly clear he is only prepared to sign on the dotted line if he is given the number one spot at the Theatre of Dreams.

The 23-year-old has spent the last few years on loan at Bramall Lane and has been an integral part of Chris Wilder’s side as the Blades have surged into European contention.

Henderson has played 33 games in the Premier League this season, keeping 13 clean sheets and only conceding 27 goals.

Despite his heroics in front of the posts, Solskjaer has given De Gea his support instead.

As it stands, Henderson is set to line up against Leicester when the Blades travel to the King Power Stadium on Thursday. He was tipped to wear the gloves for England before Euro 2020 was postponed due to these uncertain times.

However, Solskjaer’s decision might jeopardise his career at Old Trafford, as Chelsea are preparing to make a move for the keeper in the summer.

If United can’t give Henderson what he wants, he may decide to move elsewhere, as his future remains unclear.

The Red Devils will not want to let another youngster with bags of potential slip through their fingers, as ended up happening with Gerard Pique, who turned out to be a world-class defender at Barcelona.

United fans, do you think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should give Dean Henderson a chance? Let us know down below!

Chelsea: Noel Whelan heaps praise on Conor Gallagher ahead of Crystal Palace loan

Up-and-coming Chelsea ace Conor Gallagher is set to join Crystal Palace on loan ahead of the new season.

The Blues have boasted a very successful transfer window so far after welcoming five major targets through the door. But they are also working hard on securing some outgoing deals as well, with one being a loan move for one of their promising young talents.

Gallagher, 20, spent last season away from Chelsea after impressing with his 2018/19 performances with the reserve team. During his double loan stint with Charlton and Swansea, he had a strong season despite the Addicks’ unfortunate relegation into League One.

“Gallagher was really impressive when I watched him last season,” Noel Whelan told Football Insider. “He has great energy, likes to get on the ball and make things happen. He was a player that stuck out for me when Leeds were playing against Swansea. Very, very competitive and he knows his role inside out.”

The England youth international played all but one Championship match last term, making 45 league appearances in total as well as two play-off games under Swansea.

Gallagher tallied an impressive six goals and 11 assists overall, finishing inside the top ten for Championship assists registered (via worldfootball.net).

The versatile midfielder will now look to showcase his abilities on the Premier League stage under Roy Hodgson. Should he impress, he could return to Stamford Bridge and become part of Frank Lampard’s senior squad.

The Chelsea icon has done well in integrating young talent including Mason Mount and Tammy Abraham into the first team, Gallagher could be one of the next in line.

“He gets into very good areas and pockets in between the lines so it does not surprise me that Crystal Palace want him because he looked a different class of player in the Championship last season,” Whelan said. “He was involved in everything.”
