Rangers: Gerrard can undo loads of good work with Ansarifard swoop

We all know how bad Alfredo Morelos can be and when the red mist comes down he’s the worst player you can wish for out on the pitch. However, his goals have gone a very long way to atoning for his obvious lack of a brain, and the Gers will need to replace him properly if he leaves. With that in mind, Steven Gerrard cannot afford to sign Karim Ansarifard.

The Nottingham Forest striker has been plying his trade in the Championship since he was snapped up at The City Ground back in November as a free agent, and his numbers have been woeful. The Championship and the Scottish Premier League aren’t too far apart in terms of quality, and it’s hard to imagine that Ansarifard would be able to better his return of two goals in 12 if he did move to Ibrox.

Then there’s the fact that with both Morelos and Jermain Defoe scoring a combined 38 goals in all competitions they just do not need the Iranian forward. Should Gerrard act on the rumours from Football Insider he would be shooting this Rangers side in the foot. We’d even go as far as to say that big target-man Kyle Lafferty does a much better job than the Nottingham Forest failure.

At 29-years-old, if Ansarifard did find his way to the Gers this summer the striker has no resale value given his age and no track record to suggest that the goals would flow freely north of the border. Two goals in 12 this season is a pathetic return, and as Gerrard has been tying up some smart business for progressive young players, this link sticks out like a sore thumb amid some genuinely impressive moves.

Rangers fans, do you agree with that Ansarifard is a no-go? Comment below!

Portsmouth: Pompey can’t keep mulling over transfer deals this summer

In the past few days, transfer news has been aplenty surrounding around Portsmouth, yet not much of it has made for pleasant reading for supporters.

Portsmouth News reported that the club have pulled out of a move for Plymouth Argyle striker Freddie Ladapo due to high wage demands as well as reveal that the club are miles away from agreeing on a fee for Peterborough United attacker Matt Godden.

Couple that with the news from Football Insider that Oldham Athletic defender George Edmundson has snubbed Pompey for a move to north of the border to Rangers, and you have a fairly clear idea in your head that the south coast side aren’t exactly doing well with transfers this summer.

Sure, the news of Scottish winger Gary Mackay-Steven being close to joining Portsmouth according to Aberdeen Evening Express is a promising sign that the club are building upon their sole signing so far this summer in James Bolton from Shrewsbury Town, but for a side that are aiming for a return to the Championship, Pompey can’t keep stalling over deals if they are to build a squad to go one better than what they did last season.

Indeed, as the League One fixture list was announced earlier today and with pre-season starting in just under three weeks’ time, Portsmouth need to see this as a sign that the new season isn’t too far away and that Kenny Jackett needs to ensure the majority of his transfer targets are signed and with the squad come the 10th July.

Portsmouth fans, who do you expect the club to sign this summer? Let us know!

Transfer Focus: Rangers shouldn’t be so quick to write off Borna Barisic

[ad_pod ]

Rangers are looking to get rid of left-back Borna Barisic this summer, according to Football Insider.

What’s the story?

Steven Gerrard knows that in order to challenge Celtic next season, the Gers need a really successful summer transfer window and that process will involve both bringing players in and letting the right ones go.

Football Insider reckon one player the club are preparing to axe is Croatian international Barisic, ready to listen to offers for him and even hoping they can score a profit on the £2.2m it took to sign him from NK Osijek last year.

However, is it the right time to sell him, especially when there is no obvious replacement currently at the club?

Left-back worry

With the long serving Lee Wallace also leaving the club this summer after the expiration of his contract, only Jon Flanagan is available in the position heading into vital summer qualifiers and he is a natural right-back.

There’s no doubt that Barisic had a disappointing debut season at Ibrox, especially since the turn of the year, but he’s a player with obvious talent that shouldn’t be written off so quickly, even if a profit can be made.

Injuries and fitness issues blighted his season and clearly more consistency needs to be found in that regard, but saying goodbye to a current Croatian international who is capped regularly could be something the club later come to regret.

Unless Steven Gerrard has a ready made replacement that can come in early this summer and get up to speed, Barisic is worth keeping around.

With his contract running until 2022, there’s plenty of time to sell him if it doesn’t work out again next season.

West Ham: Mario Balotelli transfer speculation reeks of desperation

West Ham United need a striker this summer if they are to step up and take things to the next level. We get it.

However, that does not appear to have stopped the world’s media outlets from linking the Hammers with every possible (and feasible) striker that could be available to buy this summer!

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have been linked with a move for Maxi Gomez for god knows how long, Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic has been thrown into the hat on a number of occasions, West Bromwich Albion’s Salomon Rondon is thought to be in the mix, as is Florian Aye and Moussa Marega.

But, the latest one really takes the biscuit when it comes to reported transfer targets and reeks of sheer desperation should it have any truth to it.

According to a report by Turkish media publication Fotomac (via Sport Witness), West Ham are understood to hold an interest in Mario Balotelli; the one and only!

Now whether that is because Fenerbache are being heavily linked with a move for the soon-to-be free agent this summer and the press are looking to drum up a story involving a Premier League outfit that is known to be needing a striker remains to be seen, however, that’s all it should be.

Drama seems to follow the Italian wherever he goes and that is something the London Stadium outfit could do without following Marko Arnautovic’s antics in the winter.

Sure, the 28-year-old still has bundles of talent and has shown that he can find the back of the net on a consistent basis (although Liverpool fans would probably disagree). He hit eight goals in his 14 Ligue 1 appearances for Olympique de Marseille in his short stay; although they are said to be looking to extend it further (Fotomac via Sport Witness).

But, he cannot be considered prolific enough for what West Ham currently need to spearhead their attack, whilst there is no guarantee that Pellegrini will be able to tame the beast and get the best out of him regularly and without tempers flying.

If the Hammers are genuinely taking an interest in Balotelli, then it should be that all their other options have been exhausted and they have no chance of signing someone better than him.

West Ham fans, what do you think about Balotelli? Do you think a move for him would reek of desperation? Let us know your thoughts below!

Transfer Focus: Wolves’ Phillips offer is better than Villa’s

[ad_pod ]

According to Football Insider, Wolves want to use Leeds’ interest in Helder Costa as a way to bring Kalvin Phillips to Molineux.

The 23-year-old has been the subject of interest from Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Norwich this summer, but now Wolves have shown an interest, and they may be set to make a very interesting proposition to Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

What’s the story?

It’s been no secret that Leeds are interested in Helder Costa as Bielsa has prioritised strengthening the wide areas heading into next season.

A loan deal was initially rumoured, and a move could be on the cards with Phillips moving in the other direction.

Football Insider have reported that the Midlands club are willing to let Costa join Leeds in order to bring the defensive midfielder to the club, but it is currently unknown whether that would be on a season-long loan or on a permanent basis.

Better offer than Villa

This report was published just hours before it was revealed that Aston Villa were readying a £14m offer for the Englishman.

If both clubs come in with their reported offers, then the Whites will have a lot to think about, but allowing Phillips to join Nuno Santo’s side would be the better option for the Whites if they get Costa in return on a permanent deal.

They would be getting a top class Championship player in the shape of the 25-year-old, and his value could skyrocket under the tutelage of Leeds’ manager.

Whereas Costa has proven that he is of top Championship quality during both seasons he spent in the division, Phillips has only had one term where he has excelled. And if the influence of Bielsa is taken away from him, then he might revert back to the player he was before the Argentine arrived in Yorkshire.

Arsenal: Mario Gotze is an ideal Mesut Ozil replacement

After last night, you could be forgiven for Arsenal fans never wanting to see Mesut Ozil in the red and white shirt again.

The German playmaker yet again went missing in what was the Gunners biggest game in some years as Arsenal fell to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Chelsea, dooming the north London club to another season of Europa League football and effectively ending the club’s status as a ‘big team’.

Fans are demanding change this summer, lots of it, and at the heart of the protests is the sale of Ozil, who has been largely ineffective this season, and although offloading the former Real Madrid star will be a tall order due to his wages, the club will find it easy enough to find a replacement if new reports are to be believed.

According to Bild, Arsenal are interested in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze, who is reportedly set to leave his boyhood club after a second stint with the Bundesliga giants, and if the Gunners can sell on Ozil, the 26-year-old playmaker would be an ideal replacement.

Compared to Lionel Messi following his winning goal in the 2014 World Cup by Joachim Low, Gotze’s career has endured a mini-rebirth since returning to Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2016, scoring seven goals and assisting seven in 26 appearances this season alone.

Although he is not quite the player that lit up the world in Brazil five years ago, Gotze is still a player who can bring a lot to Arsenal should Unai Emery make a move for the playmaker, able to operate behind the striker as well as take over the attacking burden should Alexander Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang need a break.

Arsenal are in need of a refresh this summer, and in Gotze they will have a player who can easily replace Ozil in the team as well as offer goals and assists for a team deprived of a real number 10.

Arsenal fans, would Gotze be a good replacement for Ozil? Let us know!

Spurs fans bemused by latest Ndombele update

[ad_pod ]Tottenham Hotspur fans are growing tired of updates surrounding the club’s pursuit of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.A Football.London report claims that the France international could be announced as a Spurs player by the end of this month or the beginning of next. The report claims that the club are confident of securing a deal to sign the 22-year-old, who has emerged as one of the best central midfielders in Europe in recent seasons.Indeed, he made 49 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19, scoring three goals and providing eight assists.Ndombele has also been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona but he has previously outlined his own willingness to move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Nevertheless, the club’s supporters want to hear concrete updates as they look forward to their first signing since January 2018, when Lucas Moura arrived from PSG, rather than what appears to be constant procrastination.

Take a look at the best of the reaction below!

West Ham: Manuel Pellegrini won’t win many fans by signing Fabian Delph

You know the transfer window is open for business when West Ham are linked with every player under the sun.

It is set to be a massive summer for the Hammers, with players expected to leave and even more likely to join. Every area of the pitch could do with some work, and for Manuel Pellegrini, finding the perfect members for his side will be his utmost priority for the next two months.

With a limited budget to work with, it could be a summer where West Ham gets players in on the cheap, and the latest rumours have the east London side linked with a newly crowned Premier League winner, just not one that will get Hammers fans off their feet.

According to Football Insider, Pellegrini is eyeing up a move for City Swiss Army knife Fabian Delph, who could leave Manchester this season after a lacklustre campaign of sitting on the bench and being subject to only eight Premier League starts.

Whilst the England international’s versatility could make him a useful player in both the midfield and defence for West Ham, if the club wants to progress, they should be avoiding the likes of Delph this summer.

The former Aston Villa captain won’t be the player to score the goals or create chances in the attacking third, which you can argue is what West Ham need the most this summer, not a defensive minded player.

Delph’s experience and ability to play multiple positions might make him a solid signing on the cheap, but the England international isn’t a marquee ‘wow’ signing that fans want, nor the man to win those vital points for West Ham next season.

West Ham fans, would you take Delph this summer? Let us know!
