Liverpool receive huge Sheffield United boost as Jurgen Klopp drops Alisson hint

Liverpool’s luck may have turned slightly as they head into their Saturday clash with Sheffield United in the Premier League. The tough news of Virgil van Dijk’s ACL injury has set the Reds back in their quest to hold onto their historic title. Whilst Fabinho put in a solid shift at centre-back against Ajax, there’s no telling whether his confidence will carry him through the rest of the season.

This would be a huge worry for Jurgen Klopp if he was forced to rely on Adrian in goal, but his troublesome reign in goal could be coming to an end. In his recent press conference, the German has refused to rule the Brazilian out of Saturday’s game, handing a huge boost to the fans.

“Look, in my situation, I don’t want to rule anybody out until someone tells me and so far, nobody told me,” Klopp said (via The Independent) “Maybe I should have listened better!”

A huge relief for Liverpool

Adrian stepped up the plate following Alisson’s injury news, his first Premier League performance of the season was nothing short of a disaster. The Spaniard shipped a humiliating seven goals at Villa Park, breaking Liverpool’s three-game win streak. The club’s huge 7-2 loss goes down in history – the Reds are now the first top flight title-holding side to concede seven since Arsenal in 1953 (via Goal.com).

Despite a narrow 1-0 win over Ajax on Wednesday, it was Fabinho who shut out the preying Dutchmen with a last-ditch clearance off the line after Adrian was left stranded.

Even Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Everton will have come as a huge disappointment. The Toffees remain top of the table, three points ahead of their local rivals. Whilst the gap isn’t something to worry about at the moment, it’s easy for a team to pull away once they find their groove – something Liverpool themselves can vouch for after finishing 18 points clear last season.

Klopp’s hopeful comments could see Alisson return to the action and help make up for the loss of van Dijk in defence. If the Reds can seal a win against Sheffield United, it will lift morale and see the reigning champions return to their usual, dominant displays.

Man City: Fans beg for Liam Delap first team return %%page%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%

After promising Manchester City striker Liam Delap bagged a screamer for the Elite Development Squad on Saturday in a 4-1 win at home to Arsenal, many Sky Blues have implored manager Pep Guardiola to restore him to the first team squad.

Delap, who got on the scoresheet with a stunning finish as the EDS ran riot against Arsenal, scoring in the 84th minute with a sumptuous curling shot from just outside the area, wasn’t included in the first team squad for City’s away trip to West Ham.

The youngster had been turning Guardiola’s head for his performances in the academy setup, prompting a few squad inclusions and even a start in the Carabao Cup against Bournemouth last month.

Delap scored the opener in that game with a brilliant effort past Cherries keeper Mark Travers and many Citizens now want him back in Guardiola’s squad to make up for another injury to star striker Sergio Aguero.

These Man City fans have backed the youngster, with one even saying that he is “better than Sterling”, who has nonetheless scored four goals in eight games so far this term.

West Ham eye move for Brighton winger Solly March

West Ham United are leading the way to sign Brighton & Hove Albion winger Solly March, as has been reported by 90min.

It is suggested that Newcastle United, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all interested in the 26-year-old, though it is the Hammers who have taken the impetus to get ahead of the competition.

They have opened negotiations with Brighton regarding a transfer, which would see March leave the club whose academy he joined back in 2011.

Is life under Gold and Sullivan really that bad? Maybe this quiz will change your minds, West Ham fans…

He has now represented the club almost 200 times in total, helping them to earn promotion from the Championship and become an established Premier League side.

Brighton are said to be willing to sell the 26-year-old, who made 11 league starts and eight substitute appearances throughout the 2019/20 campaign – he failed to record a single goal and got just one assist during this time.

March is also open to a move away from the Amex Stadium, as he is hopeful that fleeing the nest could help him to force his way into Gareth Southgate’s plans for the England national team.

If West Ham do manage to complete the move, it will be their second signing of the transfer window, after they made Tomas Soucek’s loan deal from Slavia Prague a permanent one when Premier League safety was confirmed.

Sunderland beat Newcastle and Leeds to promising youngster

Sunderland have beaten off Premier League competition to sign Josh Hawkes from Hartlepool, according to TEAMtalk.

The League One club have snapped up the 21-year-old, despite rival interest from northern rivals Newcastle United, along with Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

Hawkes is a left winger who can also play in central midfield and at No.10.

The 21-year-old’s contract has expired and he is poised to move to Sunderland on a free transfer.

Hawkes has made 63 appearances for Hartlepool in total, scoring 13 goals and registering one assist.

He has only played twice in League Two, making the majority of his appearances in the National League, but the interest shown in him speaks to how good he could be.

He is now poised to become a League One player with Sunderland, where he will hope to take the next step in his career.

A separate TEAMtalk report states that both Newcastle and Middlesbrough had watched Hawkes continuously, with their scouts checking on his progress.

They were not able to agree a deal, however, while Sunderland did manage to get the deal over the line.

Aston Villa’s Said Benrahma snub could see Trezeguet step up

After seeing summer transfer target Said Benrahma join West Ham on deadline day, Aston Villa could see the best of Trezeguet this season.

What’s the word?

Reports in recent months had suggested Dean Smith’s side were targeting a move for the Algeria international, with Villa eventually signing Benrahma’s Brentford teammate Ollie Watkins.

In the end, it was Villa’s fellow Premier League side, West Ham, who swooped in at the last moment to snap up Benrahma on an initial loan deal, with an obligation to buy.

Despite missing out on one of their key targets, it could have a very positive consequence on a player already at the club.

Time for Trezeguet to shine

Having joined Villa from Turkish club Kasimpasa last summer, it’s fair to say Trezeguet had a promising debut campaign in English football.

The Egypt international – valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt – scored seven goals across all competitions last season, including a truly priceless winner against Arsenal in the penultimate game of the Premier League – a result that effectively sealed Villa’s status in the top-flight.

Despite playing 41 times, including featuring in 34 out of the 38 league games, Trezeguet may have been looking anxiously over his shoulders amid Villa’s interest in Benrahma.

Of course, Smith’s side did end up bringing in Bertrand Traore from Lyon, but Benrahma’s previous history with the Villa boss, and the fact he would have come in for a hefty price, may have seen Trezeguet slip into the shadows.

Instead, the fact that they missed out on him, could see him take his game up a level. He already has a full campaign of English football under his belt now, and that will stand him in good stead for this season.

Speaking after his winner against Arsenal, Trezeguet’s teammate, Tyrone Mings, hailed him as “brilliant” and that he’s an “important player” for the club. With no Benrahma, the Egyptian can knuckle down and light up Villa Park.

In other news, this Aston Villa star could wreak havoc against Leicester.

West Ham can land James Tarkowski alternative in Arsenal’s Calum Chambers

According to TEAMtalk, West Ham are interested in signing Arsenal defender Calum Chambers in this summer transfer window.

What’s the word?

Reports in recent weeks have suggested the Hammers are very keen on luring Burnley defender James Tarkowski to the London Stadium, but they have failed to see numerous bids convince the Clarets to let the England international go.

The Greatest Bargains in Premier League history – How much did they cost?

World Class score: 95% | Expert score: 80% | Veteran score: 65% | Intermediate score: 45% | Amateur score: 30% | Try Again: 5%

Now, TEAMtalk claim that David Moyes’ side are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Chambers, and that Arsenal are trying to move him on in this window.

The report adds the Hammers could face competition from the likes of Leeds, Fulham and Newcastle, whilst he has a price tag of £12m on his head.

Perfect Tarkowski alternative

Whilst West Ham continue to keep their attentions on trying to seal a big-money deal for Tarkowski, a move for Chambers could provide them with a quality alternative to the Burnley man.

Like Tarkowski, Chambers is an England international, and barring a some unfortunate luck with injuries, could arguably have gotten far more than his three caps.

Even despite seemingly being on the scene for a number of years now, Chambers remains only 25, and a run of consistent games in the first-team could see him really kick on. Last year saw him feature 18 times across all competitions for the Gunners, including starting in two of Mikel Arteta’s first three games in charge.

Able to play at centre-back, right-back and even in holding midfield, he’s as versatile as they come, with his former boss at Fulham, Claudio Ranieri, waxing lyrical about him. He said: “I spoke with Scott Parker and he told me he could play there.I believe he is a very good midfielder, he’s intelligent tactically which is good for the team, and it’s good for me to have this kind of player. He linked the defensive line and the forwards very well. He has good movement, he’s very attentive.”

At just £12m, Chambers could be a relative steal for West Ham.

Why signing Kylian Mbappe would make Liverpool truly unstoppable

Liverpool have been linked to a mega money move for global superstar Kylian Mbappe – undoubtedly a link that many would pinch themselves over if it came to fruition.

Many outlets have tied the two parties together, but the Daily Mail has reported that the Reds are in regular talks with Mbappe over a potential 2021 transfer. Real Madrid are also in hot pursuit of the France international and could be viewed as favourites to land a move for his services.

At the moment, Liverpool have one the best attacking forces in the world. After securing their sixth European title and first ever Premier League trophy, their market value has rocketed. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are both currently worth a mammoth £108million, behind only Raheem Sterling, Neymar and of course, Mbappe (via Transfermarkt).

Since Salah’s arrival in 2017, he and fellow winger Mane have tallied a total of 168 goals between them. Their unstoppable presence in front of goal has put them on the radar of huge clubs, but it’ll take a lot to tempt them away from Liverpool.

One thing that could almost certainly keep them with the Merseyside club is the addition of one of the world’s best strikers.

Whilst Roberto Firmino is irreplaceable from a chance creation and work ethic angle, the Reds have been without a prolific goal poacher since they sold Luis Suarez. Bringing in someone like Mbappe – who currently boasts a tally of 118 career goals in 186 senior appearances – would be any opposition’s nightmare.

In 2018/19, he recorded his best ever campaign record with an astonishing 33 Ligue 1 goals in 29 appearances. His overall count finished at 39 goals in 43 matches across all competitions (via Transfermarkt).

If the Reds acquired Mbappe and played him ahead of Firmino, they would undoubtedly become an unstoppable force in both England and Europe. With Alisson and Virgil van Dijk also in defence, the squad would be perfectly well-rounded.

The latest L’Equipe report on Mbappe’s price tag claims he could be available for just £90million next season. He is said to be looking for a way out of Paris Saint-Germain and the French giants could lower his price as he enters the final year of contract next summer (via Sport Bible).

Chelsea: Manchester United enter the race for N’Golo Kante

Chelsea are looking to cash in on midfield talisman N’Golo Kante in order to balance the books in this transfer window.

Frank Lampard has seemingly identified a future without the France international in his squad and is looking for suitors to come in for his services. Inter Milan are highly interested in Kante but Chelsea’s asking price could prove to be too high for them to meet.

That’s according to Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), who have also linked Premier League rivals Manchester United with a move for the 29-year-old.

The Blues have firmly stated that a loan move will not be considered and are demanding a fee of €60m (£54.3m) in order to let Kante leave in this window.

With the recent signing of Kai Havertz and the likes of Mason Mount cementing his place in Lampard’s starting XI, the battle for minutes in Chelsea’s midfield is getting tougher.

Despite helping Chelsea to win the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League, Kante’s time in west London appears to be coming to a close.

The Frenchman made just 22 league appearances last season due to several injuries sidelining him throughout the campaign. Four separate injuries kept him out of the squad at various intervals, with a hamstring problem seeing him miss the final five games of 2019/20 (via Transfermarkt).

Manchester United are reportedly ready to match Kante’s £54.3m price tag and can do so comfortably, according to the report. However, no official moves have been made as of yet.
