O Peixe deve ir a campo no domingo com Vanderlei; Victor Ferraz, Lucas Veríssimo, David Braz e Zeca; Alison (Renato), Léo Cittadini e Lucas Lima; Copete, Bruno Henrique e Ricardo Oliveira (Kayke).

Jullien won’t return from injury this month

Celtic defender Christopher Jullien isn’t expected to make his return from injury this month, according to Football Insider.

The Lowdown: Postecoglou’s hopes

The 28-year-old hasn’t featured for the Hoops in 2021 after suffering an injury when blocking a shot against Dundee United last December.

Ange Postecoglou revealed towards the end of September that he was hoping Jullien would be back in training at the beginning of October.

However, that hasn’t come to fruition, and it seems as if Celtic supporters will have to wait longer to see the defender in action.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/celtic-updates-15/” title=”Celtic updates!!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Latest: Source shares update

Football Insider shared a story on Sunday evening where Frank McAvennie was giving his thoughts on the French defender and his return.

Within the report, they shared information from a Celtic source, who claimed that Jullien isn’t expected to return before the end of the month.

The Verdict: Frustration

If Jullien returned to training at the beginning of the month, who knows, he may have featured for the first time under Postecoglou before October came to an end.

Celtic still have five fixtures to play before November comes around, so it is frustrating that the wait to see the centre-back will continue beyond Halloween.

Hopefully the 28-year-old will make his return before the year is out and can establish himself as first choice at the back once again, just like he was before that fateful injury.

Joelinton’s shocking NUFC stats in 20/21

Newcastle find themselves in a precarious position in the Premier League as they head into the last international break of 2021.

The Magpies are 19th in the table and are the only side in the division yet to win a single match, with 20th-placed Norwich on one win below them.

Eddie Howe has been officially unveiled as the new manager of the club following Steve Bruce’s exit last month and faces the unenviable task of attempting to rescue the situation over the coming months.

Dreadful

One player who has contributed to the club’s poor form this season has been Brazilian attacker Joelinton, who has been dreadful in the Premier League when called upon.

Out of all the outfield players who have started a league match this term, only Ryan Fraser and Jonjo Shelvey have averaged lower SofaScore ratings than Joelinton – 6.55. He has played ten games, starting just five, in the top-flight and has averaged 52 minutes per match.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/check-out-the-latest-newcastle-howe-ter-stegen” title= “Read the latest Newcastle news!”]

In that time, per SofaScore, he has lost possession of the ball a whopping 110 times. This means that he has lost the ball once every 4.7 minutes for the Magpies, which works out at roughly 19 concessions per 90.

Couple this with his lack of quality in the final third and you have a player who struggles at both sides of the game for Newcastle. He has zero goals and one assist this season, with 0.6 key passes and 0.4 shots on target per game, via SofaScore. This shows that he is not providing the goods at the top end of the pitch to make up for his lapse play in possession.

Magpies legend Alan Shearer once stated that he finds the forward ‘frustrating’ and lamented the Brazilian’s poor first touch. He said: “A lot of money he cost and he finds it really difficult. His touch is really poor and he hasn’t posed a threat.

“It’s been really frustrating watching him. I actually feel sorry for him because when the ball goes to him, it’s bouncing off him and he’s offering nothing going the other way, also.”

These comments may have come midway through last season, but they are still applicable today as his statistics show that he has not come good at St. James’ Park.

Shearer’s reference to his poor touch could be why he loses possession of the ball far too often, whilst his creative and shooting statistics align with his claim that he does not pose a threat to the opposition.

Therefore, Joelinton has been dreadful for the Magpies in the top-flight and replacing him could be one of Howe’s first tasks in the January transfer window, unless there is a sudden upturn in form over the next couple of months.

Monty Panesar has blamed moves to expand his spin bowling repertoire for his poor first-class returns this season, and has vowed to revert to his natural game if pitched into Ashes combat this summer

Monty Panesar has blamed moves to expand his spin bowling repertoire for his poor first-class returns this season, and has vowed to revert to his natural game if pitched into Ashes combat this summer. Panesar, who this year surrendered the mantle of England’s premier Test spinner to Graeme Swann, has taken just six wickets at 86.66 apiece in six first-class matches for Northamptonshire in 2009 but has retained the faith of the national selectors, who have named him in the England Lions squad for the tour match against Australia on Wednesday.Shane Warne is among those to have criticised Panesar for a one-dimensional approach to spin bowling, and the left-armer has used the first half of the county season to experiment with new deliveries. Those changes, he concedes, have been difficult to implement, and Panesar will instead rely on instinct in his bid to partner Swann against the Australians this summer.”I would love to right now have loads of wickets under my belt but I know things haven’t gone as planned,” Panesar said. “Sometimes you’ve got to take a step back for the longer and the medium term.”My strength is that I have a natural ability to bowl a certain pace, bowl lots of overs and get a lot of maidens. I think I’ve got to trust myself, go back to that and reproduce that natural bowling style that I have. During the Northants phase I’ve just tried to go into the development side of things … but this current situation gives me the opportunity to rise to the situations and reconnect with what I do naturally.”After losing his place in the starting XI in the wake of England’s humbling Test defeat in Jamaica, Panesar worked with England’s spin coach, Mushtaq Ahmed, on broadening his game. He hopes the moves will serve him well in the years to come, but admitted they have not helped his form for Northants this season.Panesar also delivered a thinly-veiled swipe at Peter Moores, suggesting the analytical approach of the former England coach over-complicated matters and bred confusion within the team.”I obviously struggled at the start of the season and I was in a way trying to experiment with my variation of pace and length,” he said. “I understand that in an ideal world I would have loved to have taken stacks of wickets prior to the Ashes series and that would be a good preparation for me. But I understand that for my development, and to go further, I have to maybe take a backwards step to go forward for the medium- and the long-term.”I have got the opportunity to work closely with Andy Flower, who I think is a thoughtful and intelligent man. He’s able to give you the space to actually work things out for yourself. I had similar success with Duncan Fletcher. I think sometimes if there’s too much information being put to you it can actually overload you and you can be confused with what you’re doing. The space that tends to gives you helps you to work things out for yourself.”Panesar’s cult status since joining the Test side has at times been overwhelming, and the spinner admitted the time away from international cricket has afforded him the rare opportunity to decompress.”I enjoyed the time out because it gave me the space to do my own thing and my own training,” he said. “It let the dust settle down and let me review my game and where it needs to go. One of the challenges I’ve had at Northants, I’ve had four-day games, one-day games and Twenty20 games. In ideal world I would like to play back-to-back four-day games and get myself into a good rhythm. That has been quite testing, trying to adapt from one form to another form.”

Harry Maguire was poor against Liverpool

Manchester United extended their winless run in the Premier League to four games in dramatic fashion over the weekend after they were thrashed 5-0 by fierce rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils were picked apart by their far superior opponents during a dreadful 90 minutes, increasing the pressure on under-fire manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Naby Keita opened the scoring after just five minutes at Old Trafford after the visitors ruthlessly exposed the gaping holes in United’s defence, and it was a sign of things to come.

Before half-time, a Diogo Jota tap in and a Mohamed Salah brace had already put Jurgen Klopp’s charges out of sight, but things got even worse following the interval.

The Eygpt international completed his hat-trick on the 50-minute mark, and Paul Pogba’s red card ten minutes later rounded off a humiliating afternoon for the 20-time English champions.

It’s a result and performance that ultimately puts Solskjaer’s position in the dugout under intense scrutiny, but the players on the pitch also have to take a share of the blame.

And arguably nobody was more underwhelming on Sunday than club captain Harry Maguire. He clumsily collided with left-back Luke Shaw for the second goal – who also had a nightmare against the Reds – and was unable to prevent the onslaught as he failed to lay a glove on Liverpool’s ruthless attack.

The England international was slow to react to almost every situation throughout the 90 minutes and was outwitted by Roberto Firmino on numerous occasions.

As a result of his below-par display, Maguire was awarded a match rating of just 4.8 out of 10 by FotMob, the lowest total received by any outfield player.

And when looking at his underlying numbers, it’s easy to see why. The 28-year-old attempted just one tackle which he lost, failed to block a single shot or make an interception, and made just two clearances, highlighting his hugely ineffective performance.

Since returning from a calf injury following the international break, the usually dependable centre-back has put in three calamitous showings against Leicester City, Atalanta and Liverpool, and Solskjaer will be hoping his leader can return to form as soon as possible.

And, in other news…Forget De Gea: Man Utd liability who lost possession 13x had a shocker against LFC

Harry Maguire was awful against Watford

Manchester United slumped to their seventh defeat of the campaign as Watford ran out 4-1 winners at Vicarage Road in today’s Premier League clash, piling even more pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Red Devils almost went behind just minutes into the game after Scott McTominay clumsily brought down Josh King inside the 18-yard box, Ismaila Sarr had both of his penalties saved by David de Gea after the first one had to be retaken due to encroachment.

King soon made up for his teammate’s error, though, slotting in his fourth goal in as many games to give the Hornets a deserved lead just before the half-hour mark. Sarr doubled the home side’s lead prior to the half-time interval, giving United a mountain to climb in the second half.

In response to their dismal opening 45 minutes, Solskjaer introduced Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial at the interval, and it didn’t long for the former to make his mark on proceedings.

A Cristiano Ronaldo knockdown was slotted home by Van de Beek to give the Red Devils a glimpse of hope, but that optimism was wiped out when the struggling Harry Maguire received a second yellow card, ending their chances of another comeback.

Late goals from Joao Pedro and Emmanuel Dennis rubbed salt into the wounds of United and Solskjaer, with the under-fire boss facing increased scrutiny over his role in the Old Trafford dugout.

However, many of United’s problems against Watford were self-inflicted, none more so than Maguire’s seven-minute red card. The 28-year-old received a match rating of three out of 10 by Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst following his “panicky” display.

“The first-half was an improvement on recent club performances. Saved United a few times during the first-half horror show with blocks and a sliding tackle. Then the panicky play returned and he was sent off,” Luckhurst wrote.

Maguire’s underlying numbers are further evidence of his substandard showing against the Hornets. As per SofaScore, the England international won just one of his three duels throughout his 69 minutes on the pitch, made only one tackle and lost possession six times, highlighting his underwhelming afternoon.

Despite De Gea conceding four goals, it was one of his defenders who was most to blame for United’s latest defeat, possibly providing the final nail in Solskjaer’s managerial coffin.

Plays of the day from the second day of the Edgbaston Test between England and Australia

Andrew Miller at Edgbaston31-Jul-2009

Graham Manou’s first Test innings was ended by a ripper from James Anderson•Getty Images

Opening gambit of the day
Graham Onions was a surprise choice to take the first over of the day, given how much faith England have placed in their senior pairing of Andrew Flintoff and James Anderson in this series. But both men were disappointing in their initial bursts on Thursday evening, and Andrew Strauss wanted a bowler who could be relied upon to aim at the stumps from a full length. He could not have wished for a more dramatic affirmation of his faith in Onions. Two balls, two wickets, as first Shane Watson missed a straight one to be pinned lbw for his overnight 62, and then Michael Hussey, for the second match running, offered no stroke to a ball that picked out his off stump.Innings of the day
Batting was apparently a struggle today, as nine Australian wickets and Alastair Cook’s first-over duck would suggest. But one batsman rose all other contenders, to lay claim to the innings just as he had done at Lord’s. Andrew Strauss’s crisp punchy drives and emphatic cut shots allowed no margin for error whatsoever, as he cruised to his half-century from 92 balls. Ominously for Australia, Strauss’s conversation rate is up there with the best in history. Of the 33 innings he has made it to fifty in his career, he’s pushed on to three figures on no fewer than 18 occasions.Milestone of the day
He got there a touch chancily, with an aerial prod through short leg, but when you’ve racked up more than 11,000 Test runs, it’s fair to say that you’ve earned a bit of good fortune. Ricky Ponting began the match needing 25 runs to surpass Allan Border’s Australian Test record of 11,174, and resumed on the second day with 17 of those already in the book. A thick-edged four through gully reduced the requirement even further, and he finally went clear of Border with three through midwicket off Andrew Flintoff. An appreciative Edgbaston crowd stood to salute him as he raised his bat. Ponting hasn’t been the most popular player in this series so far, but everyone in the ground could appreciate the class of the man.Statement of the day
It didn’t take long for Shane Warne to resume his “Shermanator” jibes from up in the commentary box, but down at pitch level, Ian Bell was determined to make a statement of intent in his first innings for England since February. No single shot was more emphatic than his shimmy and thwack off Nathan Hauritz, who was sent sailing over long-on for six. Bell’s follow-up shot, however, was a little bit dicier however, as he dabbed limply outside off, much in the manner he was dismissed in Jamaica in his last Test innings, but happily for him he avoided getting an edge. He was also outrageously fortuitous not to be given lbw for 18 as Mitchell Johnson clattered his pads plumb in front of middle. But undeterred, Bell followed up with a flowing cover drive for four, to finish the day very much in credit.Ravi Bopara spills a catch off Ben Hilfenhaus•Getty Images

Debut of the day
The record-books will state that Graham Manou made his Test debut on July 30, 2009, but to all intents and purposes his international career did not begin until today. Such was the rush on the first day after Brad Haddin’s finger injury, Manou did not even get formally presented with his baggy green until this morning, and besides, he spent Thursday afternoon in a daze in the dressing-room, coming to terms with what had just transpired. When his turn came to bat, he started with confidence with two fours in three balls, but then attracted the delivery of the day from Anderson, which smashed his stumps from wide on the crease. Still, he later fronted up with the gloves, and stooped well in the second over to collect a low edge off Peter Siddle, and send Cook back for a duck.Cameo of the day
Up until the moment he was adjudged lbw to a ball that might have missed leg, Michael Clarke led a bit of a charmed life. On 18, he was pinned on the crease by an offcutter that looked to be taking out middle-and-leg, but Aleem Dar decreed it was sliding past the stumps. And then, two runs later, he had an even more remarkable escape when Flintoff, of all people, dropped a catch at second slip. Onions was once again the bowler, as Clarke failed to read the outswinger, and guided the ball expertly off the face of his bat as he attempted to leave. The shot selection seemed to fool Flintoff, who barely reacted as the ball thudded into his chest and away to safety.Catch of the day
Matt Prior has had his critics since making his debut in 2007, largely for the fallibility of his glovework – which, in the opinion of many wicketkeeping experts, has stemmed from the leaden nature of his footwork. Against India and Sri Lanka in 2007-08, he spilled chance after chance, most of them off Ryan Sidebottom, and a large proportion of them left-handers, as he seemed slow in pushing off with his right foot whenever a catch flew to his left. Today, however, he demonstrated a new-found agility, as Marcus North edged James Anderson high towards first slip. Quick as a flash, Prior launched himself at the ball, and snaffled the chance one-handed.Drop of the day
Taking the ball over your shoulder while running away from the action is arguably the hardest type of catch to judge, but the chance that Ravi Bopara spilled at point off Ben Hilfenhaus was nevertheless a notable lapse. It wasn’t the toughest opportunity he’ll ever be offered either. The ball went so high off a top-edge that Bopara almost had time to walk into position before muffing the opportunity as it slapped off his palms. Hilfenhaus had made just 8 at the time, and that moment could have closed Australia’s innings on 241. Instead the last pair added 22 extra runs, with Hilfenhaus moving along to 20, his highest Test score.Chant of the day
Like their team, the Barmy Army enjoyed their best day of the series on day two. A tribute to Bobby Robson, the England football legend who died on Friday morning, stirred the emotions of all in the Eric Hollies Stand, but there were many moments of levity too. A panel of Cricinfo chant experts judged “Your next queen is Camilla Parker-Bowles” the victor by a short-half head over “Super Mitchell Johnson” followed by “Where’s your aura gone” in third. A fine field.
