Gers fans livid at Dornan update

Glasgow Rangers fans are livid following the latest development involving Scottish National Party politician James Dornan.

May 15th was a fantastic day for Rangers fans and players. The Gers beat Aberdeen on the final day of the season, meaning they went the whole of the Premiership campaign unbeaten (thefishy.co.uk), while they also received the trophy at Ibrox.

As such, thousands of supporters took to the streets to celebrate while the players enjoyed themselves at the ground.

The aftermath of that day, though, was far from positive. 20 arrests were at George Square (firstpost.com), and Police Scotland continued their investigation into the ugly scenes in the following weeks (The Daily Record), while the Gers players were accused of singing anti-Catholic songs – that was quickly debunked (The Athletic).

Despite Police Scotland finding the squad innocent, though, Dornan remained sceptical, even writing a letter asking for more information. Police Scotland have responded, saying the video that circulated was in fact edited to include anti-Catholic language.

The letter was shared on Twitter by @RFC_Falkirk, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

Let’s see what the Rangers fans had to say below

“Report him for slander and wasting police time he doesn’t have parliamentary privilege, hes a waste of energy yes but he is in a dangerous position to be doing so”

“I’d prefer he was bankrupted in court”

“Embarrassing, majority of the squad are Catholics..”

“Interviewed people, obtained video footage and had it forensically examined. What an utter waste of time and money of a video that’s clearly a fake. Dornan should also be apologising for wasting Police Scotland’s time”

“Why aren’t Police Scotland trying to find out who posted the offensive video in the first place? This absolutely stinks. Disgusting what the staff & players had to go through. Hope the club take Yousaf et al to the cleaners.”

“Easier to lock his account and continue to spread hateful agenda than take responsibility for his actions He knew what he was doing, knew the damage for our club but done it anyway Accountability isn’t in his remit A coward”

Bayern chasing Villa’s Sinisalo

A major update has emerged on Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, regarding interest from Bayern Munich and Celtic.

What’s the talk?

According to the Sunday People (20/6; page 56), Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Celtic are all interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo. The 19-year-old is heading into the final year of his contract and all three European giants are looking to potentially snap him up for a cut-price deal.

The report claims that Villa want to tie him down to an extended contract in an attempt to keep him at the club in the long term. Sinisalo’s intentions are not clear at this time and it remains to be seen if he wants to commit his future to Dean Smith’s side.

Back in Ocotber 2020, Ayr United boss Mark Kerr hailed the “athletic” shot-stopper for his ability to read the game and make important saves. He told Not The Old Firm:

“Viljami did well. I had contact with an agent who deals with goalkeepers down in England. He gave us a list of five. We thought Viljami looked athletic, he can get across the goal and he reads things.

“He made some great saves today, that’s what you need.”

Fans would be fuming

Villa fans would be fuming if the club allows Sinisalo to leave this summer to join Bayern, Celtic or Leipzig. Allowing a talented young player to depart on a cut-price deal, or free, because the club have failed to pin him down to a contract extension could be a bitter blow.

Losing a promising talent for any reason is frustrating, but to do so whilst potentially not even receiving a transfer blow would be even worse as Villa would not receive worthwhile compensation for their loss.

The teenager enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Ayr in Scotland. He kept nine clean sheets and conceded 39 goals in 29 appearances for the club, suggesting that he already has the quality to compete at that level despite only turning 19 last October.

Therefore, he could have the potential to be an important player for Villa in the future, which is why the club could be facing a disaster if they do not get him to commit himself to the club this summer as they could watch a prospect walk out of the door.

Emi Martinez turns 29 in September and the Argentine shot-stopper will be well into his 30’s by the time Sinisalo turns 24/25 and begins to prepare himself to be a long-term number one option at Premier League level.

This means that the Finnish goalkeeper could be the ideal successor to Martinez at Villa Park if he plays his cards right over the next few years. This is another reason why NSWE need to avoid making a mistake with Sinisalo in the coming months.

Everton fans on Yerry Mina dancing footage

Many Everton fans have been left gushing as footage emerged featuring Yerry Mina.

As shared by Toffee TV on their Twitter page, the defender stepped up for Colombia in a penalty shootout against Uruguay in the Copa America and placed his effort nicely into the corner.

He then sucked his thumb and started dancing in celebration, much to the delight of many of the Goodison Park faithful.

Mina was a key player for the Toffees in the 2020/21 season, averaging more clearances (4.5) and shots (0.7) per game and having a higher passing success percentage (90.1%) then Ben Godfrey, Mason Holgate and Michael Keane (WhoScored).

Biman thrashed Pegasus

Bangladesh Biman mangled Young Pegasus, the weakest among the teams in Super Six, by a massive margin of 102 runs in a low scoring one-sided match of GrameenPhone Premier League held in Fotullah Stadium today

Shahryar Khan15-May-2002Bangladesh Biman mangled Young Pegasus, the weakest among the teams in Super Six, by a massive margin of 102 runs in a low scoring one-sided match of GrameenPhone Premier League held in Fotullah Stadium today. Responding to Biman’s meager 168, Pegasus were bundled out for 66, so far their lowest total in this tournament.Biman embarked on with the loss of two openers early, but came back into the game with a partnership built by Imran Farhat and Aminul Islam. Farhat scored a blitzing 50 off 49 balls that had six fours and a couple of sixes in it, while Aminul Islam made 33.Hasanuzzaman, another notable scorer, contributed with a sturdy 34 off 55 balls, but a horrible collapse in the tail restricted Biman’s progress, as they had to content with 168 all out in 42.1 overs. Kamrul Hasan Jhoney pulled off with a haul of 4 wickets for Pegasus giving away 23 runs.Al-Amin, the medium pacer, mauled the Pegasus top order by removing three batsmen early. To add insult to injury, Anisur Rahman, Imran Farhat and skipper Khaled Mahmud battered the rest of the order within a very short time. They all claimed two wickets each while Pegasus were wrapped up with the total on 66. Faisal Hossain (13) was the leading scorer for the club and turned out to be the only man to reach the double figure. There was no question on Imran Farhat’s being the man-of-the-match for his all round performance (50 runs & 2 wickets).

Celtic dealt Kaoru Mitoma transfer blow

Glasgow Celtic have been dealt a huge blow to their chances of bringing Kaoru Mitoma to Parkhead this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Tokyo Sports (via Sport Witness), who claim that Brighton & Hove Albion are in the process of finalising a deal for the Kawasaki Frontale winger ahead of a move to the American Express Community Stadium this summer.

A source close to the player told Tokyo Sports: “I heard that it was decided to go to the Premier League.”

The report then goes on to mention Celtic’s interest in the 24-year-old, with new manager Ange Postecoglou believed to be a fan of Mitoma’s following his own time in Japan while in charge of Yokohama F. Marinos.

However, with Brighton all but confirming the transfer of the Japan U23 this summer, the Celtic boss will now have to turn his attention elsewhere in the summer transfer market.

Ange will be gutted

Considering just how impressive Mitoma has been for Kawasaki Frontale in recent seasons, the fact that Celtic look to have missed out on the signing of the winger is sure to have left Postecoglou gutted.

Indeed, in the 2020 J1 League, the 24-year-old scored a whopping 13 goals, registered 12 assists and created 13 big chances over his 30 appearances, as well as taking an average of 1.9 shots and making 1.5 key passes per game.

These returns saw the £1.62m-rated man earn a rather extraordinary seasonal SofaScore match rating of 7.29, ranking him as not only the fourth-best performer for Kawasaki Frontale but the ninth-best player in the league as a whole – playing a key role in his team setting a record points tally, as well as securing the earliest title win in the league’s history.

The man Juco James dubbed a “creative” player has continued his fine form over his 20 J1 League appearances this season, scoring eight goals, providing three assists and creating five big chances for his teammates, averaging a SofaScore match rating of 7.17.

As such, it would very much appear as if the signing of Mitoma would have been a considerable coup for Celtic this summer, with the Japanese youngster seeming to have the talent to provide the Bhoys with a real shot of retaining their Scottish Premiership crown next season.

However, with a deal for the 24-year-old now appearing dead in the water, Postecoglou must find another target this summer who could help relight the fire at Parkhead next season.

Border 'B' beat Western Province 'B' by 9 runs

Border B put their disappointing performance in the the Bowl match behind them to squeeze out the hosts in a thrilling finale in the one day match

Peter le Grange28-Oct-2002Border B put their disappointing performance in the the Bowl match behind them to squeeze out the hosts in a thrilling finale in the one day match. Tight bowling at the death saw the visitors to a narrow 9 run victory. After winning the toss, the Border batsmen all chipped in towards a useful but not necessarily intimidating total. Several batsmen got going, but were thwarted by some good catching in the outfield, particularly by Andrew Puttick, normally at home in the slips, and Ryan Bailey.Needing to bat at 4.5 to the over, the WP openers Derrin Bassage and Rashaad Magiet got off to a slow start only to be undone by some well directed bowling from Andrew Pringle. Puttick was then happy to play second fiddle to the aggressive Jonno McLean in a partnership of 100 for the third wicket. But disaster waited with the score on the dreaded Nelson, as both were dismissed on that total. The run out of Puttick was comical, with both batsmen running towards the same end after a major misunderstanding. The middle order faltered thereafter, with 4 wickets falling for 17 runs. Wesley Euley then combined with William Hantam to add 55 for the 8th wicket in double quick time. Hantam was particularly enterprising, his clean hitting being rewarded with four sparkling boundaries. This partnership swung the balance in the home team’s favour, bringing back the asking rate to a run a ball. Border’s cause was not helped when Pringle returned for his closing spell and promptly conceded 10 runs in his first over.Pringle had the last laugh when he bowled Hantam, trying to play a straight delivery to the leg side. At the other end, Euley went through a dry patch as he failed to score off nine successive deliveries. This swung the pendulum back in Border’s favour. Although Euley then started to find the gaps again, he was undone by a fine catch on the boundary by Michael Matika. The final over began with WP needing 10 for victory. Rory Kleinveldt played and missed at the first delivery, but connected with a powerful cross batted hit straight down the pitch off the second. He was left open-mouthed as Pringle dropped to the ground to take a stunning return catch. Lelethu Ntontela, who had earlier bowled impressively with the new ball, gallantly went for the big hit but was caught in the deep to give Border their triumph.

Paratici now wants Dragowski for Spurs

According to a report by La Nazione, via Sport Witness, there is a ‘whisper of interest’ from Fabio Paratici and Tottenham Hotspur in Fiorentina shot stopper Bartlomiej Dragowski.

The Lowdown: Tottenham hunt for new goalkeeper?

Current number one and long serving mainstay Hugo Lloris has been linked with a possible exit from Spurs this summer as he enters the final year of his contract.

As such, there have also been links with replacements between the sticks, with the likes of Sam Johnstone and Aaron Ramsdale recently touted as goalkeeping targets.

Tottenham’s priority is said to be the signing of a centre-back or two amid this sell-to-buy transfer window, but that hasn’t stopped talk of overhauls in other key areas.

The Latest: Paratici now eyeing Dragowski for Spurs…

Providing the latest, newspaper La Nazione have come out with a fresh claim from Italy. It is believed there is a ‘whisper of interest’ from Tottenham and new managing director Paratici in colossal Fiorentina keeper Dragowski.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/spurs-latest-updates-2/” title=”Spurs latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The 1.91m (6 foot 3) ace hasn’t signed a contract extension at his current club, with his deal set to expire in 2023 as it stands, potentially opening the door for prospective suitors to try their luck this summer.

Fiorentina want to get new contract talks underway but this report claims that Dragowski has now ‘ended up in the crosshairs’ of the ‘big names’ in Europe. The player is also ‘ready to put himself’ at the exit door and his agent is currently working on finding him a new club.

The Verdict: Most fruitful option…

Dragowski arguably comes as a better option for Tottenham over the likes of Johnstone and Ramsdale, especially considering his price tag.

Fiorentina will allegedly demand just €15m (£12.8m) for the 23-year-old, while reports indicate Johnstone (£20m) and Ramsdale (£40m) could cost far more. Also, while the latter two experienced Premier League relegation this year, the Pole kept eight clean sheets in helping Fiorentina to a comfortable 14th place in Serie A.

If Tottenham need to replace Lloris this summer amid this difficult window financially, Dragowski seems like a no-brainer by comparison.
