The team wants “matters of an extreme or serious nature” like racism in cricket “to be met head on”, England captain says
Matt Roller05-Nov-2021Eoin Morgan has insisted that he does not mind England’s T20 World Cup campaign being overshadowed if that ensures Azeem Rafiq’s allegations of institutional racism at Yorkshire are “met head on”, adding that bringing about “significant change” would be “bigger than… any of the trophies that we win”.Cricket has been on the front and back pages of British newspapers throughout the past week after government intervention into Azeem’s case against his former club, with England’s unbeaten record at the World Cup in the UAE going under the radar in comparison.Related

Azeem Rafiq racism report: Ten questions for Yorkshire
Roger Hutton resigns in racism probe fallout
Former Yorkshire player Rana Naved-ul-Hasan says he heard Vaughan's alleged racist comments
Morgan said that his squad was “very serious” in its desire to bring about “meaningful change” and said that the ECB’s decision to strip Yorkshire of hosting rights for international fixtures showed “how seriously the ECB are taking how this has been handled”.”In matters of an extreme or serious nature like these are, they need to be met head on,” Morgan said. “For us as a team, that’s exactly what we want to see. The investigation’s ongoing and live at the moment so only time will tell what happens, but I think the actions by the board have demonstrated how seriously the ECB are taking how this has been handled. Yes, we want to see the sport in a great light but equally if there’s an issue as serious as this we want it dealt with as well.”First and foremost, probably more so for the last two to three years, our culture has been built around inclusivity and diversity. It’s actually been quite a strong part of our game. For that period of time we have been active about talking and actioning things that show meaningful change.”We are very serious about it. We firmly believe that there is no place in our sport for any type of discrimination, and I think the actions of the ECB board to Yorkshire have indicated how serious they are about dealing with issues like this.”England have taken a knee before games throughout their World Cup campaign and wore anti-discrimination t-shirts during a “moment of unity” at various points during their home summer. Morgan said that “continuing to give that strong message” was important and that England were “making good ground” towards meaningful change.”There is only so much we can do as a team,” he said. “I think having had a lot of chats with the team, being a part of the significant change [is something] that we feel will lead to something that will be bigger than any of our careers, or any of the trophies that we win. What we do at the moment to try and achieve that, it’s not perfect, but we are making good ground towards change that we want implemented.”Outside of that, we are actually limited to what we can achieve. Continuing to give that strong message, particularly in our moment of unity, and opportunities to speak to you guys [the media], and I suppose ultimately to be ourselves. In teams you have to be yourself. It should feel a little bit like being at home. Obviously it won’t feel like being at home, being around your family, but it should be relaxed, and give you that freedom to feel comfortable in your own skin.”We want to do things that make a difference, and I believe we’ve made strides forwards as a group in doing that in various parts of our game”•Getty Images
“From our point of view as a team, we can only do so much in role-modelling what we believe is right. Yes, we talk about it, but equally we want to do things that make a difference, and I believe we’ve made strides forwards as a group in doing that in various parts of our game. We have found things that are not only pushing things forward, or taking the cap forward, but also feel very authentic to individuals and where they have come from, the journeys they have been on.”Adil Rashid, England joint-highest wicket-taker at the World Cup to date, played with Azeem for a number of years and has been directly involved in the case, having been named in Yorkshire’s report as a victim of an alleged racist remark from Michael Vaughan, the former England captain. Morgan insisted that Rashid was “travelling okay” and that he was “not concerned at all” that it would affect his performances.”Adil is one of our players that, in the normal scheme of things, doesn’t require a lot of support,” he said. “Given what’s happened so close to home for him, I think it’s great that he does have a great support network around him. The team is here, his family are here, which is fantastic but there is no indication at the moment that anything out of the ordinary is happening.”Being away in a different country detaches you slightly from things as opposed to being at home but certainly he’s a guy that has been very close with Azeem Rafiq growing up at Yorkshire. But he’s travelling okay at the moment. I’m not concerned at all.”

In the 1982 European Cup final Aston Villa proudly triumphed over Bayern Munich. Sadly, they were not ready for the next 40-odd years.
The Villans have rarely dined at Europe’s top table since that famous night but they are back and poetically, they’re beating Bayern again.
Wednesday night’s win encapsulated what’s so special about football, what’s so special about the Champions League. We’ve hopefully waved farewell to any Super League nonsense – a competition that would have deprived a club like Villa of this famous evening.
Unai Emery’s men were brilliant. Pau Torres was a pillar at the back, Emi Martinez proved why he’s one of the game’s best and Jhon Duran, oh Jhon Duran, you’re a little bit special, aren’t you?
You’re just going to lob one of football’s best-ever goalkeepers? Of course, you are. It was stunning, it was effortless, it was oh-so excellent.
Jhon Duran
So, Villa have two wins from two in the Champions League, this is all a bit easy, isn’t it? It raised a colossal smile and roar from Prince William and no doubt from another famous fan Tom Hanks. Somewhere, former club captain Jack Grealish will have been delighted too. Imagine if they had him in their ranks last night.
Well, as it happens, they may well have just discovered their next Grealish.
Aston Villa's new Jack Grealish
A boyhood Villlan, the England international decided to leave for pastures new in a record-breaking deal back in 2021.
He was leaving behind the club of his dreams – of course it was going to be emotional – but few could blame him for exiting when Manchester City came calling. Few could blame Christian Purslow and Co for not accepting a mega £100m fee either.
At the time, he became the most expensive player in British football, a record that has since been broken by Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo.
Have City got bang for their buck? Arguably not. Having scored 32 goals and registered 41 assists in 213 outings for Villa, he has since found the back of the net just 14 times in 133 games for City. That’s around £7m for every single goal he’s scored.

That said, he’s still a marvellous player and entertained many at Villa throughout the early stages of his career.
To receive such a massive fee for an academy player was no doubt a proud moment, and they may well get a similar fee for a certain Duran, who is just going from strength to strength under Emery’s tutelage.
Jhon Duran's impact this season
The man is a monster, there’s not much else to say really. Shall we wrap this article up now?
Chalkboard
Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.
We jest, of course, but the Colombian forward is beginning to show this season the very reason clubs like Chelsea were interested in signing him over the summer.
We have seen flashes of his brilliance over the last year or so but eyebrows were raised when a player with just five Premier League goals to his name was linked with Stamford Bridge.
Well, in the early stages of the new campaign he’s already nearly matched that tally, scoring four top-flight goals in just six games and 157 minutes of action.
He is the ultimate super sub and just can’t stop scoring, having found the net twice more – once in the Carabao Cup – and now against Bayern in the Champions League.
It’s the quality he’s showing, however, that makes him such a hot commodity. The goals he’s scoring aren’t simple. The stonking finish from range against Everton nearly took the net off and his strike against Bayern oozed quality.
Running onto the ball from Pau Torres he took one look – he didn’t even need a touch to set himself – before sending the ball over Neuer. Bedlam. Utter bedlam. Villa Park has arguably never been noisier.
It perhaps feels unnecessary after such a big game to discuss where he could end up next but the future is undoubtedly bright for Duran. As analyst Ben Mattinson remarked at full-time, this is a potential £85m player in waiting.
It’s not quite the levels of Grealish but like the Birmingham-born playmaker, he is going to generate quite a sizeable fee for Villa, that there is no doubt.

Bronze has told Chelsea’s , with another cup quest set to get underway on January 12 against Charlton: "I hope we go on a good FA Cup run. It’s always been a trophy that I’ve been in love with. I played my first final when I was 16 playing for Sunderland which is where I was from, and against Arsenal. It was my first taste of a big game.
"I’ve got so many different fond memories of FA Cup runs. Especially coming back to England from playing abroad, the FA Cup is definitely a big one. Every time I have played abroad, I’ve always been at Wembley watching the final. I love playing at Wembley, so it would be nice to play there with Chelsea."

Bronze has helped Chelsea to claim 15 wins during a 16-match unbeaten run this season and is starting to feel more settled as part of a star-studded squad in west London. The 33-year-old defender added: "Coming in I don’t think I was viewed as much as a new player because I’m English and being a bit more established. But, at the start, I was definitely finding my rhythm and my place in the team.
"Once I got my feet on the ground, got settled living here and everything like that, it just felt like I had been here forever. After the first couple of months, I felt really settled in and started to see that both on and off the pitch. I was definitely feeling more and more at home."

Quanto às datas dos Estaduais, há a espera pela definição da CBF, que deve manter os torneios locais com 16 datas no ano que vem. É esperado que o calendário de 2022 seja oficializado pela entidade ainda este mês.

With Chelsea looking to add an attacking thrust to their side, they have recently acquired tricky Wolves winger, Pedro Neto.
The 24-year-old can play off both wings and even through the middle if needed, adding pace, 1v1 ability and creation.
One player this could help is Chelsea's new striker signing, Samu Omorodion, by linking the creativity out wide of Neto, and the box presence of 6 foot 4 Omorodion. Nicolas Jackson could also be a beneficiary of Neto's arrival, due to his ability to find passes in behind for the striker.
Pedro Neto for Wolves
But Chelsea could go out and add another striker to the mix, looking to create a frightening trio with Neto and Chelsea POTY, Cole Palmer in attack, with Victor Osimhen remaining on their wishlist.
Chelsea's hunt for another striker
According to reports from the Daily Star, Chelsea are still interested in a move for Brighton forward, Evan Ferguson.
Manchester United are another club interested, and they could even move first for the 19-year-old, in attempt to beat Chelsea to his signature.
Brighton strikerEvan Ferguson.
Despite already signing Omorodion from Atlético Madrid, Chelsea could still be on the lookout for another striking option, with the possibility of Jackson being moved out to the left wing. The 19-year-old fits Chelsea's recent transfer strategy of buying the best and highest-rated youngsters in the world.
Ferguson made 36 appearances for Brighton in all competitions last season, scoring six goals, providing one assist, and totalling 1,721 minutes played, despite suffering multiple injuries.
Ferguson and Neto as a partnership
Neto, the new Chelsea signing, will bring a bundle of creative qualities to the side. The 24-year-old made 24 appearances for Wolves last season, scoring three goals and providing 11 assists.
He averaged 0.53 assists per 90, made 5.82 progressive carries per 90, and produced 2.26 key passes per 90, all of which are qualities that could help unlock a centre-forward at Chelsea. Of course, they already have Jackson and Omorodion on the books, but Ferguson could be another worth watching.

Ferguson showed in the 2022/23 season his ability to be clinical in front of goal at such a young age, scoring ten goals in his debut season at senior level. And his metrics still show this, having a 56.8% shot on target percentage, and over-performing his xG by +0.06 per 90.
The 19-year-old was described as a player with "very big potential" by manager Roberto De Zerbi, after scoring his first Premier League goal back in December 2022.
Standing at around 6 foot 2, Ferguson has a physical frame, perfect for the Premier League, which with time and development could be one of his biggest weapons, winning more aerial duels (currently only averaging 0.80 per 90) and becoming even more of a box presence because of it.
With Chelsea and United both interested, it's clear the raw talent Ferguson possesses, and perhaps a move to Chelsea to work with Neto, Palmer and Co, would unlock his clinical finishing even more, and take him to that next level that is already projected for him.
Watch out Omorodion: Chelsea want PL ace who's a bigger talent than Solanke
