Tottenham: Spurs Could Make "Extraordinary" Signing

Tottenham Hotspur have identified Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher as a replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and manager Ange Postecoglou is a big fan.

Who will Spurs sign?

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has backed Postecoglou with a handful of noteworthy additions so far, sealing deals for goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, playmaker James Maddison and winger Manor Solomon.

All three have made their debuts already, specifically during Tottenham's 3-2 pre-season friendly defeat to West Ham this week, with Postecoglou professing his excitement about working with Maddison even before that game.

“Really excited to get James as part of the group," explained the Spurs manager.

“Any manager will tell you that part of the key to being a dominant team is having multiple attacking threats and having a midfielder who can score and create goals.

“When you look at Tottenham the last few years, they’ve been really reliant on the front three to get their goals.

“I thought it was a really good fit for us to look for a player like James – even better if we could get James, so we ended up getting James."

Their transfer priority right now appears to be in central defence, with Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven, Edmond Tapsoba of Bayer Leverkusen, Fulham's Tosin Adarabioyo, Barcelona's Clement Lenglet, Galatasary's Victor Nelsson and Juventus star Gleison Bremer all being linked.

However, according to The Daily Mail, the north Londoners could also sign more new midfielders after Maddison with a star regular from last season, Hojbjerg, potentially joining Atletico Madrid this summer.

Chelsea's Conor Gallagher

The Denmark international is apparently open to it with discussions ongoing, and to succeed Hojbjerg, Spurs have their eyes on a number of targets – including Gallagher of Chelsea.

He's apparently "emerged as a candidate" for the Lilywhites to replace their midfield star, with Postecoglou being a personal fan of the 23-year-old "believes he would fit in well" with his plans.

Gallagher's energetic approach is particular draw for the 57-year-old, but as things stand, Chelsea would be reluctant to sell the Englishman given their shortage of midfielders.

How good is Conor Gallagher?

On loan at Crystal Palace over 2021/2022, Gallagher dazzled as one of the Eagles' best-performing players by average match rating, according to WhoScored, and chipped in with eight goals and three assists.

Gallagher featured regularly for Chelsea last season, too, making 35 league appearances whilst scoring three goals and adding a further assist (WhoScored).

Former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel, speaking to the media on Gallagher last year, claimed his development is "extraordinary" and raved over his brilliant potential.

“His development is extraordinary and outstanding," said Tuchel.

“He is one of the key players at Crystal Palace and he has made a huge step in his development up front.

“He was a pleasure to coach in pre-season – he has so much positive energy, so much energy in general and so much work-rate to give that he can of course be a big help and a big influence.”

Meanwhile, former Tottenham star Jermaine Jenas told Match of the Day (via The Sun), that Gallagher can be a "game-changer".

“I think he is a game-changer aswell Conor Gallagher. He’s the type of player that you bring on and he has an impact on the game.

“He presses, gets himself in the box and creates chances.

“Also, he’s won a World Cup. He was part of the U17 World Cup-winning side so he understands tournament football and I’m pleased for Conor.”

Spurs Will Not Pursue “Monster” As Kane Alternative

Dusan Vlahovic isn't a target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer due to Harry Kane's continued presence according to Dean Jones.

Which club is interested in Dusan Vlahovic?

Vlahovic is reportedly a target for a number of top European sides this summer.

The striker joined Italian giants Juventus in January 2022 from Fiorentina for a fee reportedly in the region of £67m. The forward opted for the move to the 'Old Lady' instead of a move to Premier League side Arsenal.

Since his arrival in Turin, the forward has played 63 games, scoring 23 and assisting six. However, last season was one of the most difficult in the forward's career, with him only managing 14 goals in 42 appearances.

dusan-vlahovic-juventus-arsenal-transfer-gossip-edu-arteta-erling-haaland

His former sides president Rocco Commisso has been one of the loudest critics of the Serbian, stating earlier this season:

"We paid €15 million combined for Arthur Cabral and Luka Jovic and they have already scored 20 goals in the three competitions we play in. Vlahovic, on the other hand, has scored 10 goals in Turin, two of which were penalties. He has exactly half [the number of goals] of our two forwards. And amidst all of this, we earned €70m. The Cabral-Jovic deal was excellent for us, unlike the Juventus deal for Vlahovic."

Despite a disappointing campaign last time out, a number of top European sides remain interested in acquiring the "monster" striker, with reports stating that Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are all looking at potentially bringing the forward to their clubs ahead of next season.

There have also been reports that London side Tottenham Hotspur are ready to join the race for the highly-rated forward should Harry Kane leave this summer. However, journalist Jones stated on The Football Terrace's Done Deal show that he isn't "convinced" by the north London club's reported interest, with the club intent on keeping star player Kane this summer.

"The Tottenham interest, I’m not convinced by. I mean Vlahovic has been talked about for a while now in terms of Tottenham and it goes back to last season, the guy who’s doing their transfers has the Juventus links and such. Look, Harry Kane is still at Tottenham, Tottenham aren’t actually looking at Harry Kane replacements at the moment because he is still there and they don’t intend to lose him.”

Where will Vlahovic go this summer?

There seems to be three clear options for the Serbian this summer.

The first one is to stay at Juventus. The club spent big on the forward 18 months ago and despite not hitting the lofty heights he reached at Fiorentina, Vlahovic still has the support of a number of big names associated with the side. Current manager Massimiliano Allegri has argued that the striker just needs time, saying to DAZN:

"Vlahovic just needs to stay calm, Every now and then, he uses up too much energy, so he has to just take it easy. Once he is able to learn that game management, he will be less hasty when the ball arrives and more clinical in finishing. Let's not forget he’s only been at Juventus for a year, he is doing well and has everything it takes to improve."

It would have to be a big sacrifice from the Serbian however, with the Old Lady currently suffering sanctions for financial breaches, which most recently resulted in the club being banned from this season's Conference League tournament.

Juventus strikerDusan Vlahovic

Should Vlahovic seek a new beginning, a potential move to Chelsea is reportedly on the cards. According to the Evening Standard, the Blues have made contact with the representatives of the player to sound out the details about a potential move.

The club have already added two forwards this window in Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku, and as such the club are only willing to pay €60m (£51.5m) to acquire the forward who could potentially give the Chelsea forward line a new dynamic as they look to refresh their attack.

French side PSG are also interested in the forward, with reports suggesting that the Ligue 1 champions are the player's preferred destination. The forward is just waiting for the first formal offer from the Parisians, with a potential loan deal that includes a buy clause already being ruled out by the Turin club. It could be a big move for PSG who are trying to keep star Kylian Mbappe at the club, with one of the forwards demands being the arrival of a striker to move Mbappe out of the lone striker role.

According to Fabrizio Romano, PSG know the conditions of the deal and it is in their hands to make the deal happen.

Man United: Romano issues "behind the scenes" takeover update

Manchester United are in the midst of a drawn-out takeover process at Old Trafford, which is now said to be in its 'crucial moments', according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

What's the latest involving Manchester United's takeover process?

According to The Daily Mail, the much-maligned Glazer family, who are the current owners of Manchester United, will still be in control of the football club when their Premier League campaign kicks off against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14th.

Manchester United have been up for sale since last November; however, there are now 'concerns' that the Glazers may elect to pause the takeover process or let it drag into the later stages of this year.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his petrochemicals firm INEOS are one bidder who would like to take control of the club and his colleague Sir Alan Brailsford, who is also involved with the organization, has reiterated his desire to see a deal completed in an interview with ITV Sport quoted by The Daily Mail,

Brailsford stated: "Obviously we've been involved and it's something that we're very keen to do. It's not something we can discuss in detail, we've got to sign up to NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) and all the rest of it." 'But it's an ongoing process and we'd very much like to do it. To be custodians of one of one of the biggest sporting teams, brands, in the world and trying to really support the team and go back to the success they deserve.

Ratcliffe and his entourage are keen to buy a majority stake in Manchester United while rival bidder Sheikh Jassim and the Nine Two Foundation want to buy 100% control of the Premier League giants, as per Sky Sports.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, renowned journalist Romano gave an up-to-date summary of the latest events surrounding the takeover debacle at Manchester United.

Romano stated: “It’s not easy also to comment on their side [Sheikh Jassim] at the moment. But let's see what happens.

“Things are still happening behind the scenes, but it's not something that we know precisely because it's really in the crucial moments now.”

What next for Manchester United?

Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag will be paying attention to matters that are under his control, such as casting the net far and wide to try and recruit quality additions to his squad as the Dutchman aims to build on his impressive campaign in charge at Old Trafford.

Mason Mount has become his first signing of the summer, joining from Chelsea on a deal worth an initial £55 million that could rise to £60 million based on appearances and success, as per Sky Sports.

Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana will be announced imminently as a Manchester United player before flying out to take part in the Red Devils' pre-season tour of the United States, according to The Manchester Evening News.

Italian transfer expert Romano has also issued an update on the state of play surrounding Manchester United's interest in Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, stating: "Understand Man United will send the opening official proposal to Atalanta for Ramsus Højlund soon. Man United want to avoid any hijack from Paris Saint-Germain — as PSG keep speaking to player’s camp. Højlund agreed terms with United, as revealed days ago."

Despite their positive inroads with regard to recruitment, Ten Hag isn't helped in the slightest by the headlines that continue to surface within media circles concerning goings on at Manchester United off the field of play.

Left-arm spinner Jon Holland ran through Tasmania with a five-wicket haul on the first day in Hobart, where the Tigers were dismissed for 203 after choosing to bat first. At stumps Victoria were 3 for 54 in reply, with nightwatchman Scott Boland on 1. Jackson Bird, captaining Tasmania for the first time in any format, had 2 for 25, having dismissed Travis Dean and Marcus Stoinis cheaply. But Tasmania still had much work ahead of them after their own batting struggles. Dom Michael made 54 and Simon Milenko chipped in with 52, but they were the only contributions of note as Victoria’s strong attack – all of its members have represented Australia in one format or another – gave them little respite.Holland finished with 5 for 49, the second-best figures of his first-class career, and he now has 25 at 17.08 in this Sheffield Shield season. John Hastings, overlooked for Australia’s ongoing Chappell-Hadlee campaign against New Zealand, picked up 2 for 29 from 16 overs, and Chris Tremain also claimed two wickets.

West Ham identify "unbelievable" coach to replace Moyes

The West Ham board has been teetering for a while, endlessly agonising over David Moyes’ uncertain future.

The Scotsman has bought so much joy to East London. Incredibly, he managed consecutive top-seven finishes, as well as a commendable European excursion last season that was halted in the semi-finals by the eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt.

This term, the Irons have gone one step further on the continent and made it to the Europa Conference League Final.

Moyes and his squad are on the cusp of immortality, but failure to win this competition could spell the end for the veteran coach.

According to the Guardian, the Hammers are giving fresh consideration to Moyes’ dismissal to heighten the pressure on the game on Wednesday evening in Prague.

His fate rests upon reversing history and securing West Ham’s first major trophy in 43 years.

However, as per Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, Brendan Rodgers is a “leading candidate”, should Moyes fail at the last hurdle.

Would Brendan Rodgers be a good fit at West Ham?

A victim of recency bias would wrongly discount the obvious quality of Rodgers. The 50-year-old has endured a difficult campaign, unable to stem Leicester City’s downward spiral that culminated in a surprising relegation.

The club only signed two players last summer to leave Rodgers exposed and unevenly supported.

Prior to this tumultuous year at the King Power Stadium, the Northern Irishman had deservedly developed a prestigious reputation as quite simply, an unbelievable coach.

He first announced his managerial brilliance to British football with Swansea, securing promotion to the Premier League in 2012 via the play-offs.

Brendan Rodgers winning the FA Cup

The tactician was then announced as the boss of Liverpool and although it didn't quite go according to plan there, Merseyside legend Steven Gerrard was one effusive voice, heaping praise upon his managerial style.

He said: “His one-on-one management is the best I have known. He makes you go out onto the pitch feeling a million dollars — full of confidence and belief. He is a very confident manager.”

In more recent times, Rodgers managed the Foxes to their first-ever FA Cup victory in 2021 and had the club on the cusp of Champions League football.

Jurgen Klopp has expressed his admiration for his peers' work and said: “Leicester are built like you would like to build a team. Brilliant team. What they do is really good. Exciting, fresh; defend well; play football and are especially threatening in counter-attacks."

After an £166m outlay last summer, Moyes conceded that the spending “has not worked as well” as he would’ve liked, and given Rodgers' ability to pinpoint a player’s best role and mould a squad, his arrival at the London Stadium could be the perfect scenario.

Described as “unbelievable” by Michail Antonio, a player he could end up coaching, the appointment of Rodgers would herald a new era that could reignite the squad and the fan base.

Man Utd Exploring’ Move For £100m ‘Machine’

Manchester United are believed to be plotting to sign at least one new centre-forward this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur talisman Harry Kane seemingly at the top of the club's list of targets.

What's the latest on Kane to Man United?

According to transfer insider, Graeme Bailey, the Red Devils could look to bring in two new strikers ahead of next season in order to ease their goalscoring woes, with the England captain said to be the standout pick – despite concerns over whether the Old Trafford outfit will be able to prise the 29-year-old from north London.

Writing on Twitter, the journalist stated: "Man Utd exploring signing two centre forwards this summer. Harry Kane is preferred option, but within Old Trafford there is a real feeling that Daniel Levy is not willing to do business."

In his attached piece for 90min, Bailey states that the long-serving Spurs man is United's 'top transfer target' for the summer and is among those who the club would consider as a 'ready-made' option, albeit with the report outlining that the experienced marksman could still command a fee of around £100m despite having just 12 months remaining on his existing deal.

What impact could Kane make at Man United?

It is seemingly evident that Erik ten Hag is in need of a centre-forward upgrade this summer, with the club's attacking woes laid bare by the fact that they have netted just 52 goals in the Premier League this season – 41 goals less than champions, Manchester City.

That gulf has not been aided by the persistent injury woes of Anthony Martial, with the 27-year-old – who has been linked with an exit at the end of the season – having missed 27 games so far this term.

Equally, the January arrival of Wout Weghorst has failed to have the desired effect with the towering Dutchman netting just twice in all competitions so far, with doubts emerging as to whether the loan signing will be snapped up on a permanent contract.

Tottenham's Harry Kane

With United likely to be harbouring ambitions of competing with the likes of City for the title next term, the addition of Kane, therefore, could potentially be a "guarantee" of that success, as talkSPORT pundit Jamie O'Hara previously claimed.

While that statement came prior to the Etihad outfit recruiting goalscoring machine Erling Haaland – who fired Pep Guardiola's men to the title with 36 league goals to date – Kane has proven that he could be the only answer to the prolific Norwegian, having scored 28 league goals himself this term.

That stellar individual record has come as part of a struggling Spurs side that have already parted ways with both Antonio Conte and Cristian Stellini this term, with the £200k-per-week ace also now the leading scorer for the Lilywhites, as well as for his country.

Evidently something of a "machine" in front of goal – as per teammate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Match of the Day, BBC One, 26/12/2022, 23:25) – Kane would certainly provide United with a better chance of ending their now decade-long wait for the title, hence the need for the Red Devils to do all they can to seal the deal.

"Fantastic" £210k-p/w Star Would Love To Be At Man Utd

Manchester United loanee Marcel Sabitzer would “love” to be at Old Trafford next season, according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s Romano had to say about Sabitzer’s future?

The Red Devils brought Sabitzer to the Premier League late in the January window following an injury blow to Christian Eriksen. The deal didn’t include an option to make a move permanent at the end of the season, however, there has been talk of a full-time transfer over the coming months.

Reports have suggested that Erik ten Hag is keen to keep Sabitzer in Manchester and Bayern Munich won’t stand in his way, providing United meet their £25m asking price.

Talking to GiveMeSport, Romano stated that Sabitzer would “love” to be at Old Trafford next season, adding that the midfielder is happy with life in Manchester.

"I'm sure that he wants to stay at Manchester United, so Sabitzer is just waiting for Man United to make a decision. He would love to stay; he would love to continue. He's very happy with the club, with the team-mates, with the manager."

marcel-sabitzer-manchester-united-fred-west-ham-premier-league

How has Sabitzer performed at Old Trafford?

In total, Sabitzer has made 18 appearances for the Red Devils this year, contributing to four goals. He has impressed Ten Hag, who called the midfielder “fantastic” just last month.

“He’s [Sabitzer] doing fantastic. He’s adjusted well to Manchester United and the Premier League. He is a great person and suits the dressing room well.

“He’s an intelligent player and we’re happy with his role at this moment.”

As per WhoScored, the £210,000-a-week midfielder has averaged a United match rating of 6.64/10 in the Premier League, a better score than Scott McTominay and Fred. However, Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro have all outperformed Sabitzer, so you could say that a full-time move wouldn’t be an upgrade on Ten Hag’s current options.

In terms of squad depth, a move could be a wise one with McTominay wanting to leave and Ten Hag keen on Sabitzer, but with a fairly big fee needed and the player on a large salary, perhaps it could make sense to look elsewhere, with a free move for Adrien Rabiot mooted.

The Red Devils have reportedly made new contact over a cut-price deal for the Frenchman after being linked with a move last year. Rabiot, who is slightly younger than Sabitzer, can play in a range of midfield positions and has been a regular for Juventus this season, so perhaps he could be a smart alternative to Sabitzer.
