Mohamed Diame is closing in on a new contract at Newcastle United, according to Chronicle Live.
The midfielder has started 22 games this season and, per the aforementioned report, is subsequently close to triggering a clause in his contract that would see him extend his stay at St James’ Park.
As it stands, his current contract expires at the end of the season.
Diame signed a new contract at the Magpies in 2016.
Chronicle Liver report, however, that he would like to have a longer deal at the club, with his hope being that he can stay at the club until 2021.
Diame joined Newcastle three years ago and has since made 96 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals.
And fans are split on whether the retired Senegal international should be allowed to stay at the club beyond the expiration of his deal. Take a look at the best of the reaction on Twitter below.
Leeds United’s transfer window came to a frustrating end as Swansea City pulled the plug on Daniel James’ proposed switch to Elland Road, but in the midst of the disappointment Tyler Roberts may well be quietly pleased by the setback.
Leeds signed Roberts from West Bromwich Albion for a fee of £2.6 million on January deadline day in 2018 under far more straightforward circumstances.
His arrival evoked feelings of scepticism and curiosity amongst the supporters, with limited knowledge on the teenager’s potential giving them reason to question how far he could rise at the club.
The arrival of Marcelo Bielsa in the summer has paved the way for Roberts to begin showcasing his talent, and it’s fair to say that sporadic moments of quality lend reason to believe that he could yet blossom into a key player.
Although he does not operate in the same position as James, the Swansea prodigy’s arrival would have given Bielsa an extra option on the left-wing, leaving Pablo Hernandez as his most likely option at number ten.
But Roberts’ recent showing against Rotherham hinted that he could yet push Hernandez out wide once more and occupy that role himself, and the fact Bielsa has already named him in the starting eleven for the season-defining clash against Norwich City speaks volumes about his growing prominence at the club.
It remains unclear as to how exactly Leeds will set-up, but Roberts’ glowing performance last time out suggests he should be in line to start behind Roofe in an attacking midfield role.
The game against Norwich is just one game, but in the context of the race for promotion it is absolutely massive.
A positive performance from Roberts could catapult his reputation at the club and prove to Bielsa that he is worthy of a more prominent role and, with James still at Swansea, he will be in a strong position to complete a full breakthrough at number ten with Hernandez being forced to operate out wide.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly a big admirer of one Gunners talent who's yet to make his senior debut, and he could now feature in their looming north London derby clash at Tottenham when the Premier League resumes.
Tottenham vs Arsenal team news
Following their 1-1 draw with Brighton at the Emirates Stadium last weekend, Arteta will be desperate to come away from N17 with nothing but all three points, as they look to finally beat Man City to the title this campaign.

Arsenal came close to ursurping City last season, accumulating 89 points, but that still wasn't enough to loosen Pep Guardiola's stranglehold on a division which City have won in the last four consecutive campaigns – a national record.
The Sky Blues have won all three of their opening league games in convincing displays, while Arsenal already dropped their first points of the new campaign against Brighton, with striker Joao Pedro cancelling out Kai Havertz's expertly taken lobbed finish.

A much more pressing concern for Arsenal ahead of their mouth-watering battle with Tottenham is the absence of star midfielder Declan Rice, who was controversially sent off for two bookable offences against Brighton, and thus suspended for their next game.
Meanwhile, summer signing Mikel Merino is also set to miss Arsenal's clash against Spurs, with the Spaniard out for nearly two months after fracturing his shoulder in training at London Colney.
Merino and Rice join versatile defender Takehiro Tomiyasu on the sidelines, who is also a serious doubt for the Tottenham game, and no return date is confirmed yet for the Japan international after he injured his knee in pre-season.
Tottenham have concerns as well, with Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and marquee summer signing Dominic Solanke missing their 2-1 defeat at Newcastle United last weekend.
The absences of Merino and Rice leave Arsenal quite short of options in the middle, and it is believed Arteta is plotting to drop Havertz into midfield so Raheem Sterling can play a false-nine role against Spurs.
Salah-Eddine Oulad M'Hand could make Arsenal debut at Tottenham
According to GiveMeSport, this midfield shortage could provide a breakthrough opportunity for promising young midfielder Salah-Eddine Oulad M'hand.
Ouland M'hand has been tipped to become Arsenal's next Jorginho, and the 21-year-old was named in Arteta's matchday squad to face Brighton. It is believed that Arteta is a real admirer of Ouland-M'hand's personal belief in his own ability, with the midfielder desperate to become one of the Premier League's next rising stars.
The Dutchman has impressed in the Gunners academy, scoring six goals and bagging a further four assists in 26 appearances for Arsenal's Under-21s.
His exploits and confidence behind-the-scenes mean Ouland M'hand could be handed his senior Arsenal debut against Tottenham, as per GMS, with the former Feyenoord academy gem also impressing in pre-season.
The Manchester United star once again made her case to be in the starting line-up on a regular basis, just seven months out from Euro 2025
Three goals in five caps is not a bad record at all, especially if you're a player looking to push into your country's starting line-up. That's what Grace Clinton's stats in this Lionesses team stand at as England's 2024 came to a close on Tuesday night with a 1-0 win over Switzerland, the Manchester United star scoring the only goal against the hosts of next summer's European Championships.
When that tournament comes around in seven months' time, Clinton may well find herself in Sarina Wiegman's best XI if she keeps this sort of form up, too. After only making her senior debut in February, she's become a regular feature for England throughout the year, though is still trying to break into that line-up. On Tuesday, she did her chances no harm, standing out as the Lionesses' best player in a first half which also saw her pop up in the right place at the right time to break the deadlock, once Millie Turner's header had bounced back off the post.
Given that occurred with just eight minutes on the clock, it was something of a surprise that England couldn't add to their lead, especially as they dominated before the break and created a number of chances. But this was a night which Wiegman and her team still got plenty out of, with changes of shape, several different faces and even two debutantes on show as the European champions wrapped up their 2024.

Tottenham may be a lot closer to making another new signing than widely reported, with their target's club closing in on a replacement in the final stages of the transfer window.
Spurs sign Odobert out of the blue
Within an hour of news breaking of Tottenham's interest in then-Burnley winger Wilson Odobert, the club had confirmed the arrival of the teenager in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £25m, adding further firepower to Ange Posteoglou's frontline ahead of the new Premier League season.
The winger will not receive a work permit in time to make his debut in their Premier League opener against Leicester City, but waxed lyrical about his new club upon his arrival.
"First and foremost, Tottenham is a big club, and it’s hugely ambitious, too. I think the club and myself share the same ambitions. We’re on the same wavelength," he explained in his first Lilywhites interview.
"It’s a tough ask to come and play here against Tottenham… from the outset I was hugely impressed, by the stadium and the supporters. Now here I am as a Spurs player! I’m really up for it; to do everything I can, to fight hard, to succeed in winning the fans over, and help the club get results."
The winger is Tottenham's fourth senior summer signing following the record addition of Dominic Solanke alongside a high profile move for teenage talent Archie Gray and a return for Timo Werner on another loan deal from RB Leipzig.
More departures are expected, with Oliver Skipp on the verge of completing a move to Leicester City and both Giovani Lo Celso and Manor Solomon both up for sale. But the incomings may not be over, and now Spurs have been given the clearest indication that another signing may be imminent.
Monaco sign Vanderson replacement
That comes with French side Monaco edging ever closer to signing right back Jordan Teze from PSV Eindhoven in a deal worth £9m. It comes amid rumoured Spurs interest in current Monaco right back Vanderson, with recent suggestions that Ange Postecoglou's side are even preparing a bid for the defender.

As per Foot Mercato [Via Sport Witness], the Rouge et Blanc now expect the departure of the defender, with Brazilian sources suggesting that the Lilywhites are preparing a 32m euro (£27.2m) offer to take him to north London.
It may not be enough to convince them to part ways with the Brazilian, with reports earlier this summer suggesting that Monaco were holding out for 40m euros (£34m), though given that they have now signed a replacement they may well be more willing to compromise.
Any potential move to Spurs would likely spell the end of Djed Spence at the club despite Postecoglou revealing that he had been impressed by the defender in pre-season and expected him to stay, with Pedro Porro clearly the Australian's first choice at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
On being asked by the BCCI, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has released India’s latest pace sensation T Natarajan from the upcoming 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy to keep him fresh for the limited-overs series against England next month. Natarajan had played non-stop cricket from the IPL in September to the Test series in Australia last month, staying in biosecure bubbles throughout for five straight months. He has also been rested for the ongoing Tests against England.”The BCCI and the Indian team management wanted Natarajan to be fresh for the white-ball leg of the series against England. Keeping the Indian team’s interests in mind we said yes,” TNCA secretary RS Ramasaamy told PTI.The India-England limited-overs series begins with the five T20Is from March 12 in Ahmedabad, followed by the three ODIs that will go on until March 28. As India’s white-ball squads have not been announced yet, it remains to be seen if Natarajan will be picked for both formats or if he will be rested for some of the games.Twenty-two-year-old right-arm quick RS Jaganath Sinivas will take Natarajan’s place in the 20-member Tamil Nadu squad which will leave for Indore on February 13. After clearing three Covid-19 Tests, they will be playing their first game against Punjab on February 20, having also been grouped with Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Andhra Pradesh in Group E.Natarajan was earlier included in a 20-man Tamil Nadu squad for the tournament. Mumbai will persist with Shreyas Iyer as their captain for the upcoming 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting February 20. He then led Mumbai last season, when they reached the quarter-final stage.Prithvi Shaw, meanwhile, has been named Iyer’s deputy in the 22-man squad, which includes other internationals like Shivam Dube and Dhawal Kulkarni. Reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea have now opened talks to sign a "rapid" forward who's been likened to Brazil star Neymar.
Chelsea announce six signings in busy early summer transfer window
The west Londoners, helped by Todd Boehly and BlueCo's backing, have confirmed six arrivals already in defender Tosin Adarabioyo, young striker Marc Guiu, English starlet Omari Kellyman, midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian and Renato Veiga – who cost around £93 million in total.

Chelsea are set to sign Aaron Anselimino and Caleb Wiley as well for a combined fee of £25.5 million, which will then take their spending to near the £120 million mark.
Anselmino will be loaned back out to Boca Juniors once the 19-year-old seals his Stamford Bridge, with Wiley heading out on a temporary deal to Chelsea's sister club Strasbourg in France (The Athletic).

Yet more new additions could be coming through the door before deadline day on August 30, as it is widely reported that Chelsea are targeting a star new winger for manager Enzo Maresca as well as a potential striker.
There is also the possibility of Chelsea signing another centre-back after Tosin, with some reports even suggesting that Trevoh Chalobah could be used in a swap deal to Nottingham Forest stalwart Murillo.
Meanwhile, you can never rule out the notion of Chelsea adding another rising star to their books, having already brought in a succession of world football's brightest young talents since Clearlake Capital's takeover in 2022.
The Blues have looked to Brazil for a fair few of these prodigies, with Andrey Santos, Deivid Washington, Angelo Gabriel and, most recently, Estevao putting pen to paper.
According to Romano, it is believed Chelsea have their eyes on yet another one of the country's most exciting young players. Gremio's academy has produced some truly exceptional players in recent years, including the likes of Ronaldinho, Douglas Costa and Arthur Melo, with another teenager now making waves there in winger Gabriel Mec.
Born in 2008, the teenage sensation has already been compared to Neymar for his playing style by TEAMtalk analyst and scout Ben Mattinson.
"Neymar-esque play-style and comes from the same academy (Grêmio) as Ronaldinho. Hard to not be excited by him," wrote Mattinson on X. "Mec has rapid feet able to do skills so quickly that he can fool defenders easily. A joy to watch, he’s a real throwback Brazilian."
Chelsea open talks to sign Gabriel Mec from Gremio
Romano, taking to X, now claims Chelsea have opened talks to sign Mec from Gremio and want to find out the conditions of a deal.
"Understand Chelsea have genuine interest in Gremio talent Gabriel Mec," said Romano. "He’s considered as one more gem from Brazil; Chelsea have opened talks to understand deal conditions. Gabriel Mec is appreciated by many clubs but Chelsea are pushing."
The 16-year-old has also attracted serious interest from London rivals Arsenal and Ligue 1 champions PSG in the last 12 months (Lance), perhaps highlighting just how highly-rated he is already.
“Never ever miss the birth of your children, because it is one of the great things you will ever do”
ESPNcricinfo staff13-Nov-2020″Of course it will have an impact,” Australia coach Justin Langer said when asked about Virat Kohli returning home after the first Test in Australia later this year for the birth of his first child. Using an Aussie Rules Football parallel, Langer likened Kohli’s absence to “taking Dustin Martin out of Richmond”, but stressed that even without their captain, India “are a very, very good team” and “we have to be on our toes all summer”.”Are we happy he is not playing? It’s like taking (AFL star) Dustin Martin out of Richmond,” Langer said with a laugh at a press interaction earlier today. “Of course it will have an impact, but we also know that India beat us last time (in 2018-19). They are a very, very good team. We cannot get complacent for a second with or without Virat.”So we are going to have to be on our toes all summer, and we’re looking forward to that.”Kohli and his wife Anushka Sharma are expecting their first child around the turn of the year, and Kohli has asked for – and been granted – paternity leave. The tour will start with three ODIs, followed by three T20Is, with the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy played at the end. In a media statement earlier this week, the BCCI confirmed Kohli’s return after the first Test, which will be India’s first day-night Test overseas, but did not specify whether Kohli would rejoin the Indian Test squad at a later stage, though any return would have to negotiate strict quarantine protocols, adding to the time that he would not be available. As far as Langer was concerned, though, taking time off for “one of the great things you will ever do” was worth the sacrifice on Kohli’s part.”Virat Kohli is probably the best player I have ever seen in my life for so many reasons, not only his batting but his energy and passion for the game, the way he fields. I cannot believe he displays the energy he does in everything he does, and I’ve got so much respect for him,” Langer said. “I’ve also got respect for him in the sense that he’s made this decision (to take paternity leave).”He’s a human being like all of us. It’s the same with Kane Richardson. He sacrificed the IPL so that he could be at the birth of his son a couple of days ago. So if I was giving advice to any of my players, I would always say never ever miss the birth of your children, because it is one of the great things you will ever do. Virat’s a human being, and I respect his decision.”The Indian contingent – without Rohit Sharma and Ishant Sharma, who are both carrying injuries – reached Sydney from the UAE on Thursday, and have gone into two weeks’ quarantine straightaway.
The transfer window officially opened two weeks ago today, and while Tottenham Hotspur haven't made any additions in the last fortnight, they have been hard at work.
For example, just a month ago, the club opted to re-sign Timo Werner on another loan deal for the upcoming campaign with an option to purchase.
Spurs forward Timo Werner
The German could be a useful addition to Ange Postecoglou's squad throughout the campaign, but based on recent reports, Daniel Levy and Co might already be about to sign the perfect upgrade to the former Chelsea man.
Tottenham Hotspur transfer news
According to a recent report from Football Insider, Tottenham have a 'concrete' interest in Hull City's incredibly exciting young talent, Jaden Philogene.
It's not just the Lilywhites who are keen on the young winger, as the report has claimed that West Ham United have entered into preliminary talks over the player. At the same time, a story from earlier this week revealed that La Liga giants Barcelona are also interested in the 22-year-old prospect.
Football Transfers currently value the former Aston Villa gem at just €9.6m, which converts to around £8.1m, but based on his form last season and the level of interest, it seems practically guaranteed that Hull will demand significantly more than that.
It could be a complicated transfer to get over the line, but with how well he performed in the Championship last season, it's one worth pursuing, especially as he could be the ideal upgrade to Werner.
How Philogene compares to Werner
One of Philogene's biggest strengths is his positionally versatility. He played on the left and right for Hull last season, but with Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson already battling for a place on the right, it seems far more likely that the Englishman would be looking to stake a claim to be the second-choice left-winger behing Son Heung-min, which would put him up against Werner.
Jaden Philogene in action for England Under 21s
So, how do the pair compare? Well, from a pure output perspective, there is not much competition.
In just 32 Championship appearances for the Tigers last season, the "astonishing" gem, as podcaster Ant Northgraves dubbed him, scored 12 goals and provided six assists, meaning he averaged a goal involvement once every 1.77 games.
In contrast, the Lilywhites' German winger scored two goals and provided three assists in 14 appearances, equating to a goal involvement every 2.8 games, and when you include his 14 matches for Leipzig in which he scored two goals and provided one assist, that average becomes 3.5.
When looking at their underlying numbers, the competition is a little closer, but the Hammersmith-born dynamo still comes ahead.

Ultimately, based on his form last season and his underlying numbers, Philogene looks like a better player than Werner. While the German will be a useful squad player, Levy and Co should do what they can to sign the Englishman this summer, as he could well be more than that.
Following their 15th placed finish in the Premier League last season, Everton now look set to offer a new deal to a player who has been vital to Sean Dyche's side.
Toffees look to build upon strong finish to the season
Whilst the ownership question will be the most prominent going into the summer, it is clear that Everton are still looking to get new signings through the door during the transfer window.

Reinforcements in attack are high on the list of priorities at Goodison Park with recent rumours suggesting that a move for Sheffield United's Daniel Jebbison could be on the cards. The Canadian striker has interest from across the Premier League and Championship meaning that the Toffees will have to move quickly to get a deal done.
Everton are also looking to replace stars that look set to depart Goodison this summer. Jarrad Branthwaite is one name perhaps destined to be playing his football elsewhere next season with Manchester United currently leading the race for the defender's signature. In order to fill the void left by the 21-year-old, the Toffees are reportedly interested in a move for Burnley's Maxime Esteve following the Clarets’ relegation back to the Championship.
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite
Part of Everton's plan this summer will be to also keep some of their key players at the club. One name currently locked in talks over a new deal is Dominic Calvert-Lewin, with the striker's current deal expiring next summer. With the Toffees clearly eager to keep hold of their key assets, new reports suggest another important player is set to be offered a new contract this summer.
Everton open talks to keep Garner at Goodison
As first reported by Football Insider's Pete O'Rourke, Everton are opening talks over a new deal for James Garner. The 23-year-old's current deal at Goodison Park expires in 2026, but the Toffees' higher ups are eager to prolong the midfielder's stay on Merseyside.
Garner joined Everton in a £15million move from Manchester United back in September 2022 and the midfielder has gone on to establish himself as a key player in Dyche's side. The 23-year-old featured in all but one of Everton's league games as the Toffees finished a respectable fifteenth place.

It has been reported that the Everton chiefs are big fans of Garner with Dyche himself singing the midfielder's praises back in November telling the press: “Jimmy Garner was terrific, he’s learning and improving. He’s just a good kid. He’s got that nice little edge about him that he’s a bit of a nark now and again, I like it.
Everton manager Sean Dyche
“I think you need that as a footballer. The demands he places upon himself is very pleasing as he works very hard in training and I think he’s getting the rewards with his improvement."
Currently commanding a wage of £30,000 per week per Capology, there is no doubt that Garner's performances on Merseyside have merited a new deal this summer.
