Seriam eles Emerson Silva, Airton, Bruno Silva e Camilo.

Gloucestershire Gladiators move further in front in NUL Division Two

An innings of 112 not out at a run a ball with four fours and seven sixes from Matt Windows helped Gloucestershire Gladiators to an imposing 274 for six in their forty-five overs. In reply, Northamptonshire Steelbacks were always chasing a lost cause and could muster only 219 to lose by 55 runs under the Bristol lights.Windows was particularly severe on his former team-mate Mike Cawdron. He hit three consecutive sixes in a final over that cost 24 and left Cawdron with the distinctly unpleasant figures of 9-0-91-1. He was not alone with some figures he would rather forget, but the way Windows set about the attack, nobody was safe.Windows was helped by Australian all-rounder Ian Harvey with 52 from just 36 balls, while skipper Mark Alleyne weighed in with 43 useful runs once Harvey was out. When the Steelbacks batted, it was initially David Sales who led the response to the Gladiators. He scored 51, but wickets were falling at regular intervals at the other end. Tony Penberthy picked up the challenge when Sales was out, reaching 64 from 51 balls as he tried to bring the asking rate within bounds. However, when he was stumped by Jack Russell off the bowling of James Averis and Cawdron completed a miserable evening by getting a four-ball duck, the end was not far away. It came when Jason Brown skied Averis to the wicket-keeper, the ball after he had been dropped by Alleyne who circled underneath a swirling chance without laying a hand on it. The injured Darren Cousins did not come out to bat and the Gladiators confirmed their position at the top of Division Two.

Bayern chasing Villa’s Sinisalo

A major update has emerged on Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo, regarding interest from Bayern Munich and Celtic.

What’s the talk?

According to the Sunday People (20/6; page 56), Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Celtic are all interested in signing Aston Villa goalkeeper Viljami Sinisalo. The 19-year-old is heading into the final year of his contract and all three European giants are looking to potentially snap him up for a cut-price deal.

The report claims that Villa want to tie him down to an extended contract in an attempt to keep him at the club in the long term. Sinisalo’s intentions are not clear at this time and it remains to be seen if he wants to commit his future to Dean Smith’s side.

Back in Ocotber 2020, Ayr United boss Mark Kerr hailed the “athletic” shot-stopper for his ability to read the game and make important saves. He told Not The Old Firm:

“Viljami did well. I had contact with an agent who deals with goalkeepers down in England. He gave us a list of five. We thought Viljami looked athletic, he can get across the goal and he reads things.

“He made some great saves today, that’s what you need.”

Fans would be fuming

Villa fans would be fuming if the club allows Sinisalo to leave this summer to join Bayern, Celtic or Leipzig. Allowing a talented young player to depart on a cut-price deal, or free, because the club have failed to pin him down to a contract extension could be a bitter blow.

Losing a promising talent for any reason is frustrating, but to do so whilst potentially not even receiving a transfer blow would be even worse as Villa would not receive worthwhile compensation for their loss.

The teenager enjoyed an impressive season on loan at Ayr in Scotland. He kept nine clean sheets and conceded 39 goals in 29 appearances for the club, suggesting that he already has the quality to compete at that level despite only turning 19 last October.

Therefore, he could have the potential to be an important player for Villa in the future, which is why the club could be facing a disaster if they do not get him to commit himself to the club this summer as they could watch a prospect walk out of the door.

Emi Martinez turns 29 in September and the Argentine shot-stopper will be well into his 30’s by the time Sinisalo turns 24/25 and begins to prepare himself to be a long-term number one option at Premier League level.

This means that the Finnish goalkeeper could be the ideal successor to Martinez at Villa Park if he plays his cards right over the next few years. This is another reason why NSWE need to avoid making a mistake with Sinisalo in the coming months.

Forest dealt Joe Worrall transfer blow

Nottingham Forest have been dealt a huge blow in their bid to keep Joe Worrall at The City Ground this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Nottinghamshire Live, with Sarah Clapson claiming that Burnley are still interested in a move for the 24-year-old centre-back in the current transfer window, despite the Premier League side’s links with a move for Stoke City’s Nathan Collins.

According to Clapson, Sean Dyche is looking to add two new centre-backs to his options at Turf Moor this summer, and the expectation is that the Clarets will make a move for the £3.6m-rated Forest man in the coming months, regardless of what happened with Collins.

Hughton will be gutted

With it initially appearing as if Burnley’s summer interest in signing a centre-back was leaning solely towards the Stoke defender, the news that Worrall looks set to be targeted in addition to Collins is sure to leave Chris Hughton gutted.

Indeed, despite Forest’s below-par 17th place finish in the Championship last season, the former England U21 international nonetheless highly impressed for the Reds.

Over his 31 league appearances, the £10k-per-week centre-back helped his side keep 12 clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 tackles, 4.2 clearances and winning 3.5 duels per game.

The Nottingham-born defender also posed a slight threat going forwards for the Garibaldi, scoring one goal, providing one assist and making an average of 0.3 key passes per game in the league last term.

These returns saw Worrall earn an impressive seasonal SofaScore match rating of 6.94, ranking him as Forest’s fifth-best performer in the second tier of English football.

As such, it would very much appear as if the 24-year-old, whom Steven Gerrard previously dubbed an “outstanding” defender, would remain a key player for the 62-year-old Forest manager next season, as he looks to improve on his team’s disappointing campaign last time out.

However, with Burnley still thought to be sniffing around the centre-back, whether or not Worrall will be wearing the red of Nottingham Forest next time around looks very uncertain at present. Hughton will rightly be gutted if he loses his star defender this summer.

Southampton miss out on William Saliba

Southampton have seemingly missed out on reported target William Saliba this summer, with the Arsenal man set to join Marseille on loan for next season.

Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side were linked with a move for the 20-year-old defender recently but he will be returning to Ligue 1 on loan for the 2021/22 campaign after spending last season with OGC Nice.

The Athletic journalist David Ornstein confirmed on Twitter that the young centre-back would join Marseille, which comes as a blow to Southampton, as his performances in recent seasons suggest that he could have been a stellar addition at St Mary’s.

Saliba is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal since joining from Saint Etienne in 2019, despite their defensive problems in recent seasons and he could’ve helped to steady the ship at Southampton after Hasenhuttl’s side conceded the second-most goals in the Premier League last season, with only relegated West Brom conceding more.

Last season saw the £16.2m-rated Frenchman make 20 appearances for Nice in Ligue 1, contributing one goal and averaging a solid, if unspectacular, 6.66/10 average rating from WhoScored for his performances.

Had he replicated those performances at Southampton, he would’ve been rated as the joint-10th best performer in Hasenhuttl’s squad, which suggests that he would’ve been a worthwhile addition this summer.

Although Arsenal are unlikely to want to sell the defender permanently, a loan move to Southampton would’ve suited both parties, as he could’ve established himself as a key player at St Mary’s and furthered his development by earning some valuable experience in the Premier League.

[snack-amp-story url=”https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-southampton-transfer-rumours-and-news” title=”Read the latest Southampton transfer rumours and news!”]

Saliba has won a lot of plaudits for his performances in Ligue 1 in recent seasons, with French youth coach Jean-Luc Vannuchi singing his praises after he joined Arsenal, saying:

“My first impression was that this was the biggest man of his generation.

“The difference between him and the other players was massive.

“When he took the ball and ran into midfield, no one could stop him. He was like a monster compared to the others. When he played with St-Etienne it looked normal for him, even though he was so young.”

He also compared his playing style to that of Virgil van Dijk and Raphael Varane, which suggests that he could’ve been an excellent signing for the Saints, and Hasenhuttl should be disappointed that he has instead opted to join Marseille.

And, in other news… Hasenhuttl could evolve his Saints attack with swoop for gem with “such talent”

Flintoff success an inspiration to Blackie

Andrew Flintoff’s success for England during the winter tours has inspired Somerset all rounder Ian Blackwell to want to emulate the Lancashire player

Richard Walsh13-Feb-2002Andrew Flintoff’s success for England during the winter tours has inspired Somerset all rounder Ian Blackwell to want to emulate the Lancashire player.Blackie told me, “He thoroughly deserves the success that he is having especially after he has taken so much stick about his weight. He has worked very hard and has got a lot to offer England.”He continued, “If he can stay fit he will be a very useful member of the test and one day side. He is a genuine all rounder.”Blackie played with Andrew Flintoff in the England side that took part in the Hong Kong Sixes back in the autumn, and was very impressed with his performances, and enjoyed his company. The Somerset player told me, “He is the same age as I am, and we came through the age groups together, and played against each other when I was at Derbyshire. Certain players you almost dread playing against and he was one. He was always the one who’d make it big time, and now he has.””Hong Kong was a taster for me, and I got to know him well over there. I hope that one day we will get to play in the same England one day side together,” Blackie told me,and concluded, “Seeing his success makes me more determined than ever in my fitness campaign.”

Agbonlahor talks up Leeds signing Batshuayi

Former England international Gabriel Agbonlahor believes Michy Batshuayi would be a good signing for Leeds United, increasing competition for places in the squad.

The Lowdown: Leeds tipped to sign Batshuayi

The Whites are looking to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer, in order to ease the burden on star striker Patrick Bamford.

One player who has been linked with a move to Leeds is Batshuayi, who spent last season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, scoring twice in 18 Premier League appearances.

The Latest: Agbonlahor positive about move

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor was positive about the prospect of the 27-year-old moving to Elland Road, as long as he ups his work-rate:

“It could be. If his work rate can get up to that level, at Leeds your work rate has to be up there.

“He’s going to have to work hard to get to where Bielsa wants. But he’s a good striker so it would be good competition for that striker position.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-5/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Worth the risk?

While Batshuayi possesses plenty of pedigree – he has scored 22 goals in just 34 caps for Belgium – it is a while since he has been a formidable player for any team.

His aforementioned record at Palace last season was poor and he hasn’t reached double figures since the 2015/16 campaign when he was plying his trade at Marseille.

For this reason, Leeds may be best to look elsewhere for a new attacker, finding a younger option who possesses a strong work ethic and long-term potential.
