Everton transfer news: Richarlison & DCL

A source from Everton has revealed that Farhad Moshiri is now plotting a ‘major’ overhaul of the squad in the summer.

The Lowdown: Change coming?

After the season that the Goodison Park faithful have had, big changes are needed on the pitch to ensure that they do not find themselves in a relegation battle again.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/everton-news-4/” title=”Everton news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The likes of James Tarkowski and Florian Grillitsch have recently been linked as potential incomings, while Jarrad Branthwaite has been linked with a move away from Merseyside.

The Latest: Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison out

As per Football Insider, a source with knowledge of their recruitment has revealed that Moshiri is now ‘plotting’ a ‘major’ overhaul for the Toffees this summer, and both Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could be two ‘star’ names that may leave in a mass exodus.

They are thought of as the Blues’ ‘most valuable’ assets, as evident by their market values compared to the rest of the squad.

The Verdict: Sell one, keep one

Given their values, Frank Lampard’s team could potentially afford to sell one of them for a premium price, but if they were to lose both, they would be very difficult to replace.

Despite the miserable season, Richarlison still remains their joint-top scorer with seven goals in total over all competitions, while in an injury-hit campaign, Calvert-Lewin managed to score previous seasons his scoring credentials for the club.

Nonetheless, EFC could sell one to raise funds for strengthening in other key areas of the pitch, and keep the other to hopefully get them firing again.

Leeds: Squad taking extremely well to Jesse Marsch

Leeds United players have taken extremely well to Jesse Marsch, according to The Daily Mail.

The Lowdown: 10 points from 12

Marsch began his tenure as Whites boss with back-to-back defeats against Leicester City and Aston Villa.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-news-41/” title=”Latest Leeds United news!” poster=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/cropped-2022-04-02T155252Z_391313781_UP1EI421841M9_RTRMADP_3_SOCCER-ENGLAND-LEE-SOU-REPORT.jpg” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

However, Leeds have now picked up ten points over their last four games, with the 3-0 win at Watford the latest league victory.

The Whites now find themselves nine points clear of the drop with six games remaining, and it looks as if the decision to bring in Marsch for Marcelo Bielsa is paying off.

The Latest: Source reveal

The Daily Mail shared a story on Sunday evening, looking at Leeds’ recent transformation under Marsch.

A source close to the Leeds dressing room had this to say on the American and the overall feeling they’ve heard from whispers around Thorp Arch.

“It’s just a much better atmosphere at the club.

“Jesse has a more holistic approach. So everyone feels happier.”

The Verdict: Looking up

It was certainly a gamble bringing in Marsch for such a beloved figure in Bielsa, but it looks as if it has paid off following a crucial victory at the weekend.

Plenty of credit has to go to the American, especially after starting his time in charge with two defeats, worrying results which could have badly hit a coach with less confidence. He appears to be a more approachable manager to the players too, with a 20-minute discussion on the pitch with Adam Forshaw at Watford highlighting that.

It appears to be a much happier camp following some woeful form at the beginning of 2022, and hopefully, the club can build on the foundations set ahead of the summer window.

Ten Hag wants Tchouameni at United

Prospective Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants to make Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni one of his first signings at the club, according to ESPN journalists Rob Dawson and Julien Laurens.

The lowdown

The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed on Tuesday evening that Ten Hag has verbally agreed to become the next permanent manager at Old Trafford.

And ESPN believe an official announcement could be made before the end of the month.

Tchouameni is a 22-year-old France international whose primary position is defensive midfield.

He’s under contract at the Stade Louis II until the end of the 2023/24 season.

The latest

Dawson and Laurens write that United have been ‘finalising shortlists’ in their target positions ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ten Hag ‘will be allowed’ to present his own list of options as he looks to put his stamp on the squad and Carrington sources have told the outlet that he’s ‘keen’ on bringing Tchouameni to Old Trafford.

Monaco are apparently willing to listen to offers in the region of £49.7million-£58million.

Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also interested, but Tchouameni would prefer to move away from Ligue 1, and the ‘uncertainty’ over the ownership at Stamford Bridge could harm the Blues’ cause.

The verdict

Signing Tchouameni would get the Ten Hag regime off to an excellent start.

He won the official Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year award in 2020/21, a clear indication of his immense promise.

And he’s continued to shine this season, winning four WhoScored Man of the Match awards, as many as PSG duo Lionel Messi and Neymar combined.

Tchouameni looks like an exceptionally well-rounded midfielder, ranking in the 74th percentile or better (relative to positional peers) for dribbles, progressive passes, tackles and interceptions (via FBRef).

He’s of a similar profile to the likes of Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara and Real Madrid’s Casemiro.

Journalist Zach Lowy has declared him ‘one of the best young midfielders on the planet’, a glowing endorsement indeed.

In other news, Rangnick could be without an ‘extremely valuable’ player for a month.

Prolific Thomas sets up Somerset victory

Alfonso Thomas took three wickets for the sixth successive Friends Provident t20 match as Somerset beat Glamorgan by six wickets at Taunton

29-Jun-2010
ScorecardAlfonso Thomas took three wickets for the sixth successive Friends Provident t20 match as Somerset beat Glamorgan by six wickets at Taunton. The most successful bowler in the competition claimed 3 for 11 from four overs as the visitors were bowled out for 138, Mark Cosgrove (75) playing virtually a lone hand with the bat as Murali Kartik took 3 for 18.Somerset reached their target with eight balls to spare, James Hildreth making 45 and Nick Compton 40. Robert Croft was the pick of the Dragons bowlers with 1 for 17 from his four overs. The pivotal over of the game was the 15th of the Somerset innings bowled by Chris Ashling, who had Compton stumped and then Zander de Bruyn badly dropped by wicketkeeper Mark Wallace off a skyer.A single was taken while the ball was in the air and Kieron Pollard then hit Ashling for three mighty sixes off successive deliveries. Although Pollard fell in the next over for 19 off eight balls, his assault had helped reduce the required rate to a run a ball and the pressure which had been growing on Somerset was released.Earlier, Cosgrove had struggled to time the ball throughout his innings but still hit nine fours and two sixes in remaining at the crease until the final over. He had absolutely no support, wickets tumbling regularly at the other end from the fourth ball of the match which saw Jim Allenby miscue a pull shot off Thomas to Mark Turner at mid-on.Tom Maynard flattered to deceive with three fours in his 14, while skipper Jamie Dalrymple was the only other Dragons player to reach double figures in good batting conditions. Kartik destroyed the middle order, sending back David Brown, Gareth Rees and Mark Wallace, who between them scored seven runs. The Indian left-arm spinner employed good variation and got the odd ball to turn.Cosgrove was unusually content to dab and push a lot of his runs, taking 41 balls over his half-century and finally cutting loose in the 18th over with four and six off successive deliveries from Pollard. He eventually holed out at long-on off the West Indian all-rounder. Thomas’ wickets took his tally in the competition to 22 at an average of 10.09.

Em ambas partidas, o centroavante atuou no time reserva.

Wolves: Lage must unleash Chiquinho

With the winter break coming to a close, Wolves are back in action this weekend with an FA Cup clash against fellow Premier League side Norwich City at Molineux on Saturday afternoon.

On the chalkboard

In terms of which players Bruno Lage could select in his starting XI to take on the Canaries, one man who we think should be in with a shout of being in the team is January signing Chiquinho.

Wolves signed the winger from Portuguese club Estoril last month in a deal worth an initial fee of £3m and included him in their matchday squad for their previous Premier League game against Brentford, where he was an unused substitute.

Described as a “young, exciting and talented player” by Wolves’ technical director Scott Sellars, the 21-year-old racked up 20 goals and 10 assists in 84 appearances across his previous club’s youth and senior teams, showcasing the attacking capabilities and outlining why the Old Gold were keen on bringing him to the Black Country midway through the season.

This also shows how much the new Wolves arrival could terrify Dean Smith’s side if Lage give the winger his first start in an Old Gold shirt tomorrow for his 22nd birthday and offers him the freedom to express his attacking talents with his new team-mates.

While Wolves may already have another young attacker in their ranks in the shape of Fabio Silva, the teenager has only scored four goals in 50 appearances for the Midlands club across all competitions, which suggests that he may not have what it takes to lead the line for Lage’s team.

With that in mind, it could be a great opportunity for the manager to unleash Chiquinho and see what he can do against Premier League opposition alongside the other senior Wolves players. It should give a good indication of whether or not he could be a useful and regular option for Lage throughout the remainder of the season.

Silva has been given his chance and shown that he isn’t up to it, so it’s time to give Chiquinho his opportunity to wreak havoc on Norwich.

Liverpool still keen on signing Danjuma

Liverpool remain interested in signing Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma but a deal won’t happen in January, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Reds linked with Danjuma move

The Reds had a quiet summer transfer window and there may have been a feeling that an attacking signing was needed in order to add more depth in the final third.

Danjuma is one player who has been linked with a move to Anfield since then, having ended up staying put at Villarreal in the summer.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals and registered two assists in La Liga this season, making 10 starts in the division to date. He also found the net four times in six Champions League group stage appearances, making an impression in Europe’s premier club competition.

The Latest: Romano provides Danjuma update

Taking to Twitter on Christmas Day, Romano provided an update on the situation, confirming that Liverpool still see him as a potential transfer target but quashing any prospects of a move in next month’s transfer window.

He tweeted: “Danjuma will not leave Villarreal in January. Liverpool are among top clubs monitoring him for the future but there are no talks for January – he’s staying.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-liverpool-transfer-news-15/” title=”Latest Liverpool transfer news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=“none”]

The Verdict: Strong squad option

Danujma is the perfect type of signing that Liverpool should be looking to make moving forward – someone already performing at a high level but who could become even more of a force under Jurgen Klopp.

The Dutchman has been hailed as ‘exceptional’ by Jonathan Woodgate following a two-year spell at Bournemouth, and two goals in five caps for Netherlands is a promising return.

Danjuma could come in and be a strong backup for the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane – at 24, he would also be a long-term signing, much in the same way that Liverpool’s African superstars were when they first came to Anfield.

Bielsa handed huge Leeds injury boost

Leeds United have been handed an encouraging injury boost ahead of their return to Premier League action this weekend…

What’s the word?

Marcelo Bielsa’s first-choice left-back Junior Firpo has confirmed his availability for the Whites’ second trip to West Ham United in a week on Sunday afternoon.

The 25-year-old was withdrawn early with what appeared to be a concussion during their FA Cup clash last weekend. He had collided with teammate Illan Meslier in the first half and was soon replaced by Cody Dramah after the break.

However, despite the knock, the defender has revealed he has recovered already to BBC Radio Leeds (via LeedsLive). He said:

“I’m good, I’m good. We’ve just followed the protocols about this type of thing (concussion). I’m fit and okay to play on Sunday. Yeah it happened in the [collision with Illan Meslier]. Minutes later I felt a little bit dizzy and in this condition, you cannot play a game in this level because it’s difficult.”

Huge boost

This will come as a huge relief to Marcelo Bielsa and co as the last thing he or anyone at Leeds needs is yet another absentee.

Injuries have been piling up all season and the Yorkshiremen cannot afford to lose another key player, having already been without the likes of skipper Liam Cooper, midfield lynchpin Kalvin Phillips and leading talisman Patrick Bamford.

Bielsa does not really have a back-up at left-back, so Firpo is the only senior option, barring someone like Pascal Struijk – who is also injured – or Stuart Dallas playing out of position there.

After an inconsistent start to life at Elland Road, the former Barcelona man has put in some solid displays, including one against Chelsea, where he thwarted England international Reece James before putting in his best performance of the season against Burnley.

At one point, Bielsa was staring down the barrel of having as many as 11 first-team stars unavailable heading into their second clash against the Irons this week, so to have Firpo fit is certainly positive news.

A surely relieved Bielsa and the fans must be delighted by this update.

India and Pakistan in high-pressure knockout

Azeem Ghumman and Ashok Menaria were not yet in their teens when Sachin Tendulkar blitzed Pakistan at Centurion in the 2003 World Cup. They were merely 17 when Misbah-ul-Haq came agonisingly close to snatching the inaugural World Twenty20 from India in 2007. The pressure an India-Pakistan match in a World Cup brings is storied and, on Saturday, these two teenage leaders will experience it for the first time – when their teams clash in the quarter-final of the Under-19 World Cup in Lincoln.Indian and Pakistani sides have traditionally been the form teams at U-19 World Cups. They enter the tournaments as favourites and rarely fall out of contention before the semi-finals. One will tomorrow. Few expected them to come up against each other so early in the competition. Pakistan won all their league games and topped their group. India won the first two but dropped their last against England. If they hadn’t, they would be playing West Indies.”We are seething after the loss [to England], and we’ll take it out against Pakistan,” Meenaria told the . “The world comes to a standstill when an India-Pakistan match is on.”Pakistan perhaps hold the edge. They scored big against West Indies, bowled Papua New Guinea out cheaply, and held their nerve to win a thriller against Bangladesh. They have the tournament’s highest run-scorer, Babar Azam – 260 runs at an average of 130, and the joint highest wicket-taker, Usman Qadir – eight at 15 apiece. The victories India scored were against Afghanistan and Hong Kong and they ensured India’s qualification even before the loss to England. Unlike the 2008 campaign, when Tanmay Srivastava and Virat Kohli led the batting charts, this time India’s highest runscorer – Rahul Kannaur with 117 in three innings – is 15th on the list. Saurabh Netravalkar, their left-arm fast bowler, could prove to be key. He was exceptional against England, rattling the top order and finishing with figures of 3 for 25.There is an external factor – and a significant one – in India’s favour. They are familiar with conditions at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, having played two group matches there. Pakistan only got to Christchurch a few days ago – their group matches were on North Island. The pitch at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval aids seam bowling, and is good for batting when the sun shines. Scoring runs, however, requires a disciplined approach as India found out the hard way against England. They must learn quickly from their errors; Pakistan, however, have no second chances.Another external factor, an uncontrollable one, favours Pakistan. It rained all day in Christchurch on the eve of the match and although Saturday’s forecast is brighter one can never be certain. Should the match end in a washout, Pakistan will go through to the semi-final because of their better group position. There is no reserve day.Pakistan’s manager, Shafqat Rana, says this side is the best U-19 Pakistan side he has seen but he’s aware of the gravity of the contest. “These children have never played India, forget in a World Cup game, but have grown up watching the high-intensity clashes between the two countries,” he told the . “They are aware of the expectations back home. Be it an U-13 India-Pakistan game or a veterans’ contest, it will always remain special.”And then there’s the raging controversy in the subcontinent over the Pakistan players being ignored by the IPL, and maybe it would provide the contest added edge. Rana didn’t think so. “They are kids, they have very little idea about IPL auction and other issues,” he said. The absence of intense media coverage could also help them focus better.Ghumman, Menaria and their team-mates will say they’re approaching the contest like they would any other. They can try, but all will not succeed. Even the wealth of Tendulkar’s experience in pressure situations couldn’t prevent him from living the Centurion match a year in advance. And even he slept poorly for 12 nights before d-day.
