What’s the story?
The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United all spent astronomical fees on top-class talent over the summer, while the Reds watched Ibrahima Konate replace a raft of fringe players at Anfield.
Many expected Gini Wijnaldum’s exit to result in an exciting new acquisition gracing the 19-time English champions throughout 2021/22, yet an external successor failed to materialise despite several star names being linked with a move to Merseyside.
And now, Goal’s Liverpool correspondent Neil Jones has shed some light on the club’s failed attempted to replace the Dutch international, with one of Konate’s former teammates reportedly targeted.
“It has been reported that a move for another Leipzig man, Marcel Sabitzer, was explored, but the Austrian ended up joining Bayern Munich late in the window,” his report read.
Jurgen Klopp will be fuming
After finishing in an underwhelming third place in the top-flight standings last term, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be hoping to guide his charges back to the Premier League summit this time around.
Seven points from a possible nine has seen the Merseyside outfit start the new campaign in solid fashion, but the German tactician may be concerned about his squad’s lack of strength in depth as the season progresses.
The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Wijnaldum weren’t replaced, while a below-par duo of Divock Origi and Neco Williams remain the backups to key players in key positions.
And Klopp’s disappointment may be further compounded by the fact that the club’s hierarchy were unable to attract an affordable, ready-made replacement in the centre of the park.
Sabitzer has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s top midfielders in recent years, scoring 52 goals and providing 42 assists in 229 appearances for Leipzig, and is fully acquainted with the pressing style favoured by Klopp after working under Julian Nagelsmann at the Red Bull Arena.
With his previous contract set to expire next summer, Bayern were able to snap up the Austria international for just €16 million (£13.7m), a fee within even Liverpool’s limited financial reach.
Therefore, Klopp is likely to be left fuming after missing out on the versatile 27-year-old, and he’ll be hoping that Liverpool’s lack of activity in the market won’t cost his side as the campaign progresses.

O Flamengo virou a página e venceu a primeira no Brasileirão na noite de
ontem. Jogando no Serra Dourada, o time comandado por Zé Ricardo venceu o Atlético-GO por 3 a 0, com gols de Everton, Leandro Damião e Rodinei . Rubro-negro soma agora quatro pontos na competição nacional.
O JOGO
Mesmo atuando fora de casa e carregando o peso da eliminação precoce na Libertadores, o Rubro-Negro começou pressionando e foi muito superior ao adversário na etapa inicial. Setor de meio-campo dos cariocas ditava o ritmo da partida, com Willian Arão, Márcio Araújo e Ederson, que voltou a ser titular depois de muito tempo.
O Atlético só conseguiu alguma coisa com os chutes de longe de Walter, mas camisa 18 não estava com o pé calibrado e não assustou o goleiro Alex Muralha, que não trabalhou.Antes do intervalo, o Flamengo intensificou a pressão no Serra Dourada e Everton conseguiu abrir o placar após rebote cedido por Felipe.

Na volta para o segundo tempo, Fla manteve a postura e logo aos cinco minutos Damião ampliou após linda jogada trabalhada por Trauco e Arão. Mesmo ganhando por 2 a 0, Zé Ricardo ouviu gritos de “burro” por ter colocado Matheus Savio, no lugar de Gabriel, que saiu com dores.
Os donos da casa sentiram o gol do camisa 18 e Ederson por pouco não fez o terceiro. Felipe saiu bem e evitou o gol do camisa dez. No rebote, Leandro Damião mandou para fora e perdeu outra grande chance. Pouco tempo depois, rubro-negro carioca teve boa sequência de chances, Felipe fez boas defesas, mas no fim Rodinei balançou as redes, 3 a 0.
A torcida do Flamengo vibrou como se fosse um gol aos 35 minutos da
etapa final, mas dessa vez foi por conta da joia Vinicius Jr. Zé Ricardo mandou o garoto de 16 anos para o campo e rubro-negros presentes no estádio fizeram a festa para ele.
Garoto entrou e tentou alguns toques de efeito e jogadas individuais. Com o 3 a 0, equipe carioca segurou o resultado e gastou o tempo. Na última bola da partida, Vinicius Jr fez linda jogada individual, levantou o estádio, mas o zagueiro cortou em cima da linha.
Atlético-GO e Flamengo voltam a se enfrentar na próxima quarta-feira, pela Copa do Brasil, no Serra Dourada. Na partida de ida, 0 a 0 no Maracanã, quem avançar estará classificado para as quartas de final da Copa do Brasil. Fla soma quatro pontos no Campeonato Brasileiro, enquanto o Atlético ainda não pontuou.

عقدت قمة ظهر اليوم الأربعاء بين إدارة نادي إنتر ميلان ووكيل النجم الأرجنتيني باولو ديبالا، بحضور المدير بيبي ماروتا وأوسيليو ونائب الرئيس زانيتي.
وبحسب “توتو ميركاتو” الإيطالي، قدم إنتر اقتراحه المادي والمشاريع إلى وكيل ديبالا، الذين سيقدم تقريرًا للاعب يوفنتوس، ليستقر على وجهته المقبلة.
ويشير التقرير إلى أن هناك تفاؤلًا حيال ذلك والشعور أن الاجتماع كانت نقطة انطلاق مهمة لإيجاد اتفاق لينضم ديبالا لإنتر ميلان.
وتفيد “سكاي سبورت إيطاليا” أن إنتر قدم عرضًا رسميًا لباولو ديبالا بعد لقاء مع وكلائه اليوم، واقتراح بعقد لـ 4 سنوات بقيمة 6 ملايين يورو في الموسم بالإضافة إلى المكافآت.
وصفت المصادر الاجتماع بأنه إيجابي، لكن لم يتم الاتفاق عليه بالكامل بعد، ولا يزال يتعين مناقشته حول تفاصيل الراتب.
الطلب من ديبالا ووكلائه هو راتب قدره 8 ملايين يورو بالإضافة إلى المكافآت، لكن كلا الطرفين مستعدان لاتخاذ خطوة أخرى تجاه بعضهما البعض والتوصل إلى اتفاق.

لطالما كان النيراتزوري مهتمًا باللاعب الأرجنتيني الدولي، وهو وكيل حر بعد رحيله عن يوفنتوس هذا الصيف.
هذا يؤكد أن إنتر ميلان هو المرشح الأوفر حظًا لديبالا، متقدمًا على بدائل مثل روما أو آرسنال أو مانشستر يونايتد أو توتنهام.

Crystal Palace are closing in on a £20m deal for defender Joachim Andersen, according to The Daily Mail.
And, as to be expected, a number of Eagles fans have been sharing their positive thoughts to the update on social media.
The Daily Mail report that Palace are hopeful of concluding a deal for Andersen, who spent last season on loan at Fulham.
The 25-year-old made 31 appearances under Scott Parker last season, captaining the club on multiple occasions.
Patrick Vieira has already bolstered his defensive ranks with the acquisition of Marc Guehi from Chelsea and it seems as if Andersen will be the next through the door.
The report also adds that Palace remain in talks for Schalke centre-back Ozan Kabak, despite the development with Andersen.

A situação de Bruno na Justiça pode ganhar novos desdobramentos. Em entrevista ao UOL nesta quarta-feira, o desembargador Doorgal Andrada manifestou sua irritação com o pedido de soltura do goleiro, que, graças a uma determinação do STF, obteve um habeas corpus e aguardará em liberdade o recurso para sua condenação a 22 anos e três meses de prisão por homicídio triplamente qualificado de Eliza Samudio.
– A lei não quer que ninguém fique preso sem ser julgado, que é o que chamamos de prisão preventiva. Mas ele não é um preso preventivo sem julgamento. Responder um processo preso não pode ser algo comum, mas o caso de Bruno não se encaixa nisso. Ele teve ampla defesa, passou por um júri popular, fez sustentação oral. Ele não está na preventiva. Foi julgado, é diferente daquele preso que não passou por julgamento.
Segundo o desembargador, a soltura de Bruno aconteceu por uma interpretação diferente do ministro do STF, Marco Aurélio de Mello, sobre a situação do goleiro:
– Tem um ministro que diverge. Majoritariamente, prevalece a decisão dele. Ele (Marco Aurélio de Mello) interpretou daquela maneira. Eu interpreto de outra forma.
Andrada mostrou expectativa para julgar o recurso do processo pedido pelos advogados do goleiro ainda neste ano:
– Tranquilamente será nesse ano. Eu estou com o processo, posso dizer pela minha experiência que está afunilando. O advogado tem um limite. A não ser que um tribunal superior mude alguma coisa, mas aí não sou eu. Eu entendo que já está no ponto.
O goleiro de 32 anos foi apresentado recentemente como reforço do Boa Esporte. Sua chegada rendeu a fuga de patrocinadores do clube, além de protestos em Varginha.

As such, thousands of supporters took to the streets to celebrate while the players enjoyed themselves at the ground.
The aftermath of that day, though, was far from positive. 20 arrests were at George Square (firstpost.com), and Police Scotland continued their investigation into the ugly scenes in the following weeks (The Daily Record), while the Gers players were accused of singing anti-Catholic songs – that was quickly debunked (The Athletic).
Despite Police Scotland finding the squad innocent, though, Dornan remained sceptical, even writing a letter asking for more information. Police Scotland have responded, saying the video that circulated was in fact edited to include anti-Catholic language.
The letter was shared on Twitter by @RFC_Falkirk, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.
