£95k-p/w duo now look to be totally finished at Everton under Moyes

When David Moyes assesses his Everton squad this summer, he will know that reinforcements will be required across a range of positions.

That said, there are several stars who need to be at the core of the Toffees’ exciting future project. Jarrad Branthwaite would be open to extending his contract, report Sky Sport, however, Liverpool and Manchester City are among the teams tracking the centre-back this season.

He’s not the only one who The Friedkin Group will need to keep on Merseyside, however. The Farhad Moshi era might have ended in dysfunction, but there was plenty of promise to be found during the 2023 summer transfer window, setting the club for future success.

Everton's summer transfer window

Last summer, Everton signed Ndiaye from Marseille for a £15m fee as Sean Dyche attempted to pump new life into his frontline. Ndiaye certainly proved a bright spark amid a dreary few months, even being described as “dynamite” by pundit Jamie Redknapp in October.

He’s Everton’s top scorer this term with eight goals from 28 matches in all competitions, having also found new life since Moyes’ arrival, scoring in three successive top-flight wins before picking up a medial ligament injury against Liverpool.

This is a cruel blow to a player who was going from strength to strength, but Moyes and co can be excited for the future with this one, for he ranks among the top 17% of Premier League attacking midfielders and wingers this season for pass completion, the top 7% for successful take-ons, the top 1% for ball recoveries and the top 14% for tackles plus interceptions per 90, as per FBref.

A fan favourite and a mercurial winger, capable of dazzling things on the ball, Ndiaye is the real deal and will no doubt pique the interest of high-class suitors down the line. It’s crucial Moyes keeps him on the books.

Everton star Iliman Ndiaye

However, Ndiaye isn’t the only one, with Orel Mangala bringing a ball-playing angle to the side before his cruel season-ending injury suffered last month; he’s a loanee, but his performances across the first half of the campaign will hopefully see the buy clause activated.

Tim Iroegbunam offers promise too, albeit having missed plenty of action due to injury.

More recently, Jake O’Brien has begun to show that his outfit hit the jackpot in bringing him to England last summer too.

Everton have hit the jackpot with Jake O'Brien

A monstrous presence at 6 foot 6, O’Brien crossed the Channel to join Lyon in 2023 after failing to break into Crystal Palace’s first team, where he was hailed as a “revelation in defence” by journalist Zach Lowy.

The 23-year-old’s mix of physicality and natural goalscoring sense makes him perfect for Moyes’ philosophy, indeed being hand-picked by Dyche – whose football isn’t all that different from the more refined Scotsman.

O’Brien is averaging goals at 0.13 per game in the Premier League while ranking among the top 1% of full-backs for clearances and the top 2% for aerial duels won per 90.

On that note, the Irishman’s value within this system has been underscored by Moyes’ decision to field him consistently at right-back, with O’Brien not making a single starting appearance in the Premier League before the managerial change in January.

Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson have both struggled with injuries across the 2024/25 campaign while Ashley Young remains an important member of the squad but at 39 years of age lacks the athleticism and vigour of a younger man. Moyes has yet to start the veteran, who played 17 times from the outset under Dyche’s wing.

Given Young has spent so much time on the field this season, it might be worth taking a look at how the respective right-backs compare in England’s top flight this season.

As you can see, O’Brien is proving to be a crisper defender in the duel and shows promise with his confidence, willing to get on the ball just as much as the creative Young, also making far greater clearances in a further illustration of his natural defensive skills.

Coleman’s injuries have limited him to just two Premier League starts this season. With the long-serving skipper turning 37 in October, it may be that O’Brien’s emergence has ended the careers of such veterans.

Indeed, both players have entered the final few months of their respective contracts, totalling £95k per week combined. This isn’t the most significant chunk, but it’s not pennies either.

Everton defenders James Tarkowski and Seamus Coleman

With Patterson hoping to bounce back from his fitness problems, there may not be a place in this new world order for such players, who have earned their flowers but are being replaced by a younger and fitter generation.

Coleman’s only started nine Premier League matches since the start of last season, and while Young is still defying his twilight years with a regular role, this new full-back is proving his worth and then some, with Toffees writer Ell Bretland noting the “security of having O’Brien in there is ideal.”

O’Brien proved to be an invaluable asset for a below-par Lyon side last term that came on leaps and bounds in the latter stages, avoiding a shocking relegation which felt more than possible in the opening months.

And again, for Everton, the Republic of Ireland international is proving to be a ‘revelation’ for Moyes’ team, capable of taking the baton from Young and Coleman.

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Per talkSPORT, West Ham have held talks with Southampton 'keeper Ramsdale over a deal to bring him to east London. The Saints have dropped into the Championship and he is keen to stay in the Premier League as he bids to nail down a spot in Thomas Tuchel's England squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Southampton reportedly want around £20 million ($27m) if they are to allow Ramsdale to leave the club. He earns around £100,000-per-week, and it is unclear if the Hammers would be willing to match that. Lukasz Fabianski has departed the club, but Alphonse Areola remains their No.1.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Ramsdale has won five England caps but he endured a truly terrible season with the Saints as they finished rock-bottom of the Premier League. The 27-year-old made 30 appearances and only kept three clean sheets; he conceded 66 goals in total.

    WHAT NEXT?

Ramsdale, who played 89 times for Arsenal, will hope to complete a move to a Premier League club this summer. Whether he lands at West Ham remains to be seen.

Newcastle now targeting move for £25m-rated ace with an "elite engine"

A new report has claimed that Newcastle United are among the clubs who are interested in signing an international midfielder with an “elite engine” this summer.

Newcastle plan for summer as Howe prepares for cup final

The Magpies are focusing on a massive day in their history on Sunday afternoon, as they take on Liverpool in a much-anticipated EFL Cup final. And while the players and manager are clearly putting all their efforts into winning their first piece of domestic silverware in 70 years, there are plenty of targets being linked with moves to St James’ Park already as Paul Mitchell and Co get to work off the pitch.

One individual who has been mentioned as an option for the Magpies is Liam Delap, who has been one of the few positives in a struggling Ipswich Town side this season. He has scored 10 goals in 26 Premier League appearances in 2024/25 to date, with a move to a bigger club possible this summer.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are also reportedly keen on snapping up Germany winger Leroy Sane from Bayern Munich this summer, with the club even holding talks with the player’s agents over a switch in the coming months.

Newcastle keen on signing AC Milan and USA midfielder

According to an update from MilanLive [via Sport Witness], Newcastle are keen on signing AC Milan midfielder Yunus Musah at the end of the season. The Serie A giants will demand £25m for his signature and are willing to let him go, having been considered an important player last year.

Yunus-Musah-USA

Musah is a player with a high ceiling, with the 22-year-old already winning 45 caps for the USA, no doubt wanting to be a key part of his country’s World Cup chance when they co-host the tournament in 2026.

The American has made 23 Serie A appearances for Milan this term, completing 88.5% of his passes in the competition, and he has been hailed for his “elite engine” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig.

While Newcastle’s go-to midfield trio of Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton is exceptionally strong currently, having increased competition for places in that area can never be a bad thing. Musah can add quality and legs in the middle of the park, as well as being a younger alternative to those mentioned above, and there is still so much more to come from him.

There are also doubts surrounding the future of Sean Longstaff at St James’, with Everton linked with a summer move for him, so the Milan ace could even come in as a direct replacement for the Englishman.

Pep has struck gold on Man City wonderkid who's worth more than Echeverri

Manchester City are not short of exciting young talent in their squad. Although Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled this season, they still have plenty of exciting youngsters who could all have a part to play in the first team in the years to come.

Two of those players were signed in January. Brazilian defender Vitor Reis and former Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov are just 19 and 21 respectively. Tricky winger Savinho is just 20 years of age, as is academy graduate Rico Lewis. It has been a breakthrough year for teenager Nico O’Reilly, too.

Another young talent City can get excited about is Claudio Echeverri. He’s only just penned terms with the club but looks like a massive talent for the future.

Claudio Echeverri's move to City

City actually signed Argentine attacking midfielder Echeverri in January 2024, but he has only just made the move to the Etihad Stadium, after an agreement with his former club, River Plate. The youngster cost the Citizens a reported £12.5m.

City’s new number 30, who is capped at U20 level by Argentina, has impressed for River over the last year or so.

He has played 48 times, scoring four goals and grabbing eight assists. However, the 2,499 minutes he has played equate to just 27 full 90-minute games, leaving him with an impressive average of 0.44 goals and assists per game.

The youngster shone at the U17 World Cup back in 2023 for Argentina. He played seven games and managed five goals and one assist in that time, as his side finished fourth. Echeverri notably scored a brilliant hat-trick against Brazil in a 3-0 quarter-final win.

Currently valued at £15m by Transfermarkt, it seems like the teenager will be a brilliant investment for City. He is a player who clearly possesses plenty of talent, notably named among the top ten players in GOAL.com’s NXGN 2025 list this week.

However, City have another talented young star who is valued even higher than the young Argentine…

The Man City wonderkid worth more than Echeverri

Few players in and around the first team at City are as exciting as a certain Oscar Bobb. The 21-year-old Norweigan has sadly had his season tarnished by injury but is getting back to full fitness, which will be a massive boost for Guardiola’s side.

Manchester City's Oscar Bobb

Described as a “pure joy to watch” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig, the City attacking midfielder has already made a great impression during his short time in the first team at the Etihad Stadium.

In 27 appearances for the Citizens so far, Bobb has two goals and two assists. However, he has only played 909 minutes, the equivalent of just 10.1 full 90-minute games. The youngster has yet to have a proper opportunity for a run of games, and he has already made a big impression.

One of Bobb’s most important goal contributions came last season away against Newcastle United. After being 2-1 down, City managed to pull it back to 2-2. Enter Bobb, who scored a 91st-minute winner after coming on in the 82nd minute.

It is moments like that which suggest the forward could become a star for City. His stats via Sofascore from last season show his quality, too. For example, in the 2023/24 campaign, Bobb averaged 2.3 key passes and two dribbles completed per 90 minutes.

With all that in mind, it might not be a surprise to learn that the Norway international is highly valued. Incredibly, he is worth more than Echeverri according to Transfermarkt, a whooping £21m, which shows his quality given he has not played for several months.

Chelsea target Oscar Bobb in action for Manchester City.

Bobb is without doubt, an exciting talent. He has already shown glimpses of what he can dop at senior level for City, and will be hoping he can continue that form when he returns from injury in the coming weeks.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

It appears the pair have become more serious about their relationship of late. Dias and Jama went public in April, and have been spotted at a number of events together. A source told Heat that Jama's protective pals have tentatively signed off on their union, as Dias appears to be the model boyfriend. The 30-year-old presenter had previously been in an on-and-off again relationship with grime megastar Stormzy.

  • WHAT HAS BEEN SAID

A source close to the couple said: "The trip to Italy was incredibly romantic. There was no wild partying – they just enjoyed some quality couple time and it gave them a chance to talk about their future. Maya knows it’s early days, but she’s head over heels. She wants to settle down, get married and have a family – and she doesn’t want to wait much longer.

"Rúben seems genuine so far, and she really thinks he could be The One. What Maya loves about him is that Rúben doesn’t come across someone who would mess her about. He was with his last girlfriend for around three years – he’s not been involved in any cheating scandals, like a lot of footballers. In fact, there’s no red flags at all at the moment. He’s got a good sense of humour, and they have such a laugh together, but they’re also focused on their careers and passionate about what they do.

"Her friends and family are obviously protective of her. After the big heartbreak of her last relationship, they want to make sure Rúben is the right guy for her. But even her most protective friends have found it hard to find any real fault with him."

According to Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Fenerbahce are actively searching for a new right-back, with Walker emerging as their top priority during this summer’s transfer window. WHAT NEXT?

Walker’s future at City has looked increasingly uncertain following a season where his playing time drastically declined. His loan spell at AC Milan during the second half of the 2024-25 season provided a brief change of scenery, but it failed to reignite his form. With the 2026 World Cup now only a year away, Walker knows time is running out to prove his worth to Thomas Tuchel.

Son upgrade: Spurs make contact over £25m dynamo with "an eye for goal"

There are only two current Tottenham Hotspur players who started Mauricio Pochettino’s final game: Ben Davies and Son Heung-min.

The former has been a reliable if unspectacular servant to the club and will be remembered fondly by the fans, but the latter has been a bonafide star, an icon of the club and the Premier League.

However, the South Korean joined the club a decade ago and will turn 33 in the summer, and while his numbers are still decent, he clearly cannot impact games in the same way anymore.

Spurs striker Heung-min Son

He is simply a victim of time, with research from The Athletic revealing that wingers see a dramatic decline in their ability to beat defenders when they reach 30 years old.

So, if Ange Postecoglou wants to take the club forward next season, he should be looking at a long-term replacement for the club legend, and based on recent reports, Daniel Levy and Co may have identified just the player.

According to a recent report out of Spain, Spurs are incredibly keen on Feyenoord’s Brazilian dynamo Igor Paixão.

Transfer Focus

Mega money deals, controversial moves and big-name flops. This is the home of transfer news and opinion across Football FanCast.

In fact, alongside the Lilywhites, the report has revealed that North London rivals Arsenal, as well as Newcastle United, Liverpool and Bournemouth, have made contact and expressed their interest in signing the goalscoring wideman.

Fortunately, while the number of interested parties is far from ideal, the Dutch giants reportedly value the 24-year-old maestro at just €30m, which comes out to about £25m.

It could still be a difficult transfer to get over the line, but with how well Paixão has played this season, it’s one Spurs should fight for, especially as he could be the perfect upgrade on Son.

How Paixão compares to Son

Now, when we get down to it, there are two key areas in which Paixão has an advantage over Son, and the first is longevity.

By this, we mean the simple fact that, at 24 years old, the Brazilian is going to be able to play at the very highest level for far longer than the South Korean will be, especially in the high-intensity system Postecoglou wants to implement.

The second area where the Feyenoord star, whom U23 scout Antonio Mango has described as having a real “eye for goal”, has the edge is raw output.

For example, in 38 appearances this season, totalling 3176 minutes, the “quality” Macapá-born winger, as dubbed by analyst Ben Mattinson, has scored 11 goals and provided 15 assists.

That means he is currently averaging a goal involvement every 1.46 games, or every 122.15 minutes, which is an undeniably impressive level of output.

In contrast, the former Bayer Leverkusen ace has scored 11 goals and provided 11 assists in 40 appearances, totalling 2835 minutes, which comes out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.81 games, or every 128.86 minutes.

While that’s still an impressive level of productivity from the Chuncheon-born icon, it’s still less than his potential competition and, given where he is in his career, we’d be stunned if he was able to match it again next year.

Ultimately, Son is undeniably a modern-day great for both Spurs and the Premier League as a whole, but he is much nearer the end of his career than the start, and while he’s plying his trade in a non-top five league at the moment, Paixão looks to have the raw ingredients to be an effective upgrade on the 32-year-old.

Therefore, Levy and Co should do what they can to bring him to N17 before one of their rivals beat them to his signature.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Ansu Fati is not part of coach Hansi Flick's plans for the 2025-26 season and made only 11 appearances across all competitions last campaign. With Barcelona needing to reduce their wage bill and the player requiring regular game time, a loan move has emerged as the most possible solution.
