According to 90min, Spurs have identified their top defensive target in the Bundesliga Burkina Faso ace, though mounting interest from Premier League rivals Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United could throw a spanner in the works.

Laporte has been a stalwart for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City since signing for £57m in 2018 but has fallen down the pecking order and has subsequently been touted for a £40m departure from the Etihad Stadium.

The 29-year-old has been hailed as the "best left-central defender in the world" by his club manager, but with his diminishing amount of action on the pitch, compounded by news of the club's vested interest in RB Leipzig sensation Josko Gvardiol, searching for new pastures might be the best option.

And at Spurs he would cement his name as a first-rate star, spearheading the resurgence from the back and complementing Postecoglou's possession-based style, with club chairman Daniel Levy saying: "Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play."

As per FBref, the 22-cap colossus ranks among the top 4% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions, the top 3% for pass completion, and the top 1% for passes attempted, progressive passes and progressive carries per 90 – evidently, he holds his own with the ball at his feet.

Currently on £120k-per-week, Laporte could even be an affordable option for the Lilywhites, who crave some defensive fortitude after a fraught campaign that bore no European qualification and a dismal defensive record to better only Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and the three relegated outfits.

But the pass master would also serve to make Ivan Perisic's creative game unplayable, with the Croatian gem sealing a move to north London from Inter on a free transfer last year.

Perisic frequented the left flank throughout the 22/23 term, scoring once and registering 12 assists from 44 matches, and with a coveted layer of assurance from someone of Laporte's ilk, who has averaged 1.8 tackles and 3.4 clearances across the duration of his career – via WhoScored – his playmaking prowess would only improve, especially considering Postecoglou's emphasis on versatile full-backs.

Especially since the 34-year-old veteran already ranks among the top 1% of positional peers for assists and the top 9% for shot-creating actions per 90; impressive metrics, and that's with a shoddy defensive foundation to build from.

Especially given a first-rate skill of the "beast" that is Laporte is playing out from the back – something that is an intrinsic component to a Pep Guardiola system – could add a whole new dimension to a Spurs team desperate for a route back to prominence, his signature must surely be sought this summer.

And if Levy and Postecoglou can pull it off, Tottenham could craft a successful season for themselves and expunge the poignancy of a calamitous campaign.

Rangers are "closing in" on the signing of Cremonese striker Cyriel Dessers, having reached an agreement on the "final fee", according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Gers have expressed an interest in Feyenoord striker Danilo, however, they had an opening bid of £3.5m immediately rejected by the Dutch side earlier this week, as it was way below their valuation.

Who is Cyriel Dessers?

The Nigerian forward has regularly been finding the back of the net in some of Europe's major leagues for quite some time now, firing home 20 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord during the 2021-22 campaign, before completing a switch to the Serie A.

During his time with Cremonese, the Belgium-born attacker has not been quite as prolific, registering seven goals in all competitions last term, however, he has been playing in a poor side, who ended up finishing second-bottom in the Serie A.

Hailed as "phenomenal" by members of the media, the former Feyenoord man's previous exploits indicate he could be a fantastic acquisition for Rangers, having amassed 140 goal contributions in 212 games at centre-forward throughout his career so far.

There are aspects of the Nigeria international's game that could improve, considering he has averaged just 0.06 assists per 90 over the past year, and 0.91 aerials won, placing him in the 23rd and 21st percentile respectively.

All in all, though, Rangers should be excited by the imminent arrival of Dessers, as his goal-scoring record has been very impressive for a number of years, and there is every indication he could be a success in the Scottish Premiership.

Southampton's search for talent to prepare them for the Championship has seemingly led them to Grady Diangana, according to the Express and Star.

What is the latest Southampton transfer news?

There's been plenty of happenings for the Saints since the window opened, both in terms of potential incomings and outgoings too. With the club preparing for life in the second tier, there are bound to be exits of some of their higher-paid players, but that will make room for some sensible recruits in order to try and earn promotion back to the Premier League and build a sustainable squad capable of staying there too.

One name that could be out of the door at the club is Carlos Alcaraz. Having impressed since a mid-season move in 2022/23, Napoli are now ready to take him to Serie A so that he doesn't have to spend a year in the Championship. No bid is on the table yet but the Italians are believed to be keen to do business.

In terms of incomings, it looks like Russell Martin wants to head straight back to his old club Swansea to poach some of their biggest talents. The Saints have been linked with both Ben Cabango and Nathan Wood and could launch a move for one of them this summer – although he will not be signing both of them, so will have to weigh up which name he wants more at Southampton.

Now, there is another name on their transfer radar. According to a report from the Express and Star, Grady Diangana is being tracked by the Saints, as well as Leicester and Leeds.

All three relegated sides are keeping tabs on the Baggies man ahead of a potential move, but a deal could be hefty. It seems as though West Brom are not too keen to lose the 25-year-old and could demand a substantial fee for the winger, with the Hawthorns outfit feeling they don't need to sell the player for a small fee. The Baggies player does have a good record at Championship level though. There is no doubt of his talent at second tier level either, with Diangana previously receiving praise for his efforts in the Championship. Football journalist Josh Bunting stated that the 25-year-old was "excellent" during the 2022/23 season for example.

He knows how to split open defences in this division then and with Southampton looking to bounce straight back to the Championship, he could be a perfect signing if they do launch a move for the winger, adding a bit of pace and dynamism outwide for Martin's new-look side.

In fact, no Man United player was able to match Kolo Muani's impressive output in front of goal with Rashford the only player coming close to his numbers with 39 goal contributions in all competitions last season.

Therefore, combining the England international's goal threat with Kolo Muani's could set the team's attack up as a devastating force for years to come.

The talented 6 foot 1 goal machine – who has a reported €90m (£77m) price tag – has been the recipient of high praise for his standout performances in the Bundesliga, with former Bayern Munich ace and Sky Sport pundit Lothar Matthäus claiming:
