Pakistan are likely to announce a captain for the World Cup within the next few days, possibly even before the fourth ODI of the current series against New Zealand scheduled for February 1. Indications, for the moment, lean towards the Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq taking over from Shahid Afridi, the current ODI skipper, for cricket’s showpiece event. But the situation remains fluid and Misbah’s chances were far greater a few days ago; a comfortable win over New Zealand on Saturday, with a starring role from Afridi, will no doubt impact on the final decision.The PCB announced a 15-man World Cup squad earlier this month, but much to the surprise of almost everyone, didn’t name a skipper for the event. Afridi has been Pakistan’s ODI captain over the last year but just before the New Zealand tour began, a number of key players and team management officials raised concerns with the board over his captaincy. The development placed the board in a quandary, between players and the captain, ultimately compelling them to delay the announcement.Expectedly the decision has been slammed by a number of ex-players, most notably Inzamam-ul-Haq; the broad feeling of discontent doesn’t revolve around the personalities as much as the instability inherent in such a situation. The board and the chairman Ijaz Butt, it is believed, have no real issue with Afridi remaining captain, but such are the nature of the concerns the players and team management have, that the board has found itself having to choose sides.It is understood that players are mostly unhappy with Afridi’s regular and very public assessments of his side’s performances, mostly when they have been critical. In addition, Afridi’s statements to the ICC with reference to the spot-fixing case involving three Pakistani players have also been felt by some players in the current squad to have been incendiary and unnecessary. Though local reports suggested that a group of senior players had thrown their support behind Afridi, players such as Kamran Akmal and Misbah still hold reservations.The inability of Afridi and vital members of the team management to gel with each other has not helped matters; one important management official is thought to have pushed particularly forcefully for Misbah’s elevation to the captaincy over the last few weeks in New Zealand.The delay has allowed the board chairman to travel to New Zealand to hold discussions with Afridi, senior players and management officials before making a decision. In a meeting before the team departed Butt also advised Afridi to try and improve his interaction with players over the course of the series. These meetings will ultimately decide who is to be appointed.On paper, Afridi’s record as captain is not hugely impressive, with seven wins and 10 losses in 18 games (and one no-result). He averages nearly 36 with the bat in that time, including two hundreds in Sri Lanka, and well over his career numbers. And though the 25-ball 65 against New Zealand in Christchurch on Saturday was his first fifty in 12 ODIs, he has, on five occasions, made scores between 24-49, which given the way Afridi bats and the position he bats at, are often vital hands.His bowling has not been as incisive, taking only 17 wickets in that span and generally going for runs. But in pushing ODI series against England and South Africa to the final game each time, in overseeing several fightbacks in tough circumstances Afridi would seem to have built up some credit.Misbah’s case for captaincy, on paper, is weaker. He has not been part of the ODI set-up for much of the last year; in fact, he only played two ODIs in 2010 and was dropped midway through the series against South Africa. His often poor strike-rate also works against him, and if Younis Khan is in the playing XI, robs Pakistan of some power in the middle. But he has built up momentum from his Test exploits, where he has been in exceptional form with the bat and has just led Pakistan to a drought-breaking Test series win.

Group A, on the other hand, has been soporific, filled with one-sided contests decided early in the piece. It’s crying out for some life, some drama. On Wednesday, two of its more nuggety teams will attempt to give it some at Motera.New Zealand and Zimbabwe are ranked fourth and fifth in Group A. The first three teams, in all probability, are quarterfinal certainties. The last two don’t have a prayer. New Zealand and Zimbabwe are level on points with one victory and one defeat each, separated only by net run-rate. Following a period of recuperation, Pietersen will begin a rehabilitation programme with his county Surrey, in conjunction with the England team medical staff.”Kevin underwent a successful, routine operation with a hernia and an area of weaknesses repaired on the left side while a small hernia was identified and repaired on the right side,” said ECB Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nick Peirce.”Kevin will now undergo a relatively brief period of rest before beginning a rehabilitation programme with Surrey CCC under the guidance of the England team medical staff. Os confrontos das oitavas de final da Copa do Brasil foram definidos em sorteio realizado na manhã desta sexta-feira, na sede da CBF, na Barra da Tijuca, Zona Oeste do Rio. Homenageado do dia, o ex-atacante Zinho, multicampeão do torneio, com títulos pelo Flamengo, Palmeiras, Grêmio e Cruzeiro, sorteou os duelos da fase, que não terá clássicos estaduais, assim como na última edição, mas conta com disputas entre times de Série A como Cruzeiro x Atlético-PR, Palmeiras x América-MG, Chapecoense x Atlético-MG, Corinthians x Vitória e Vasco x Bahia. Os jogos acontecem nos dias 25 de abril, 2, 9, 16 e 23 de maio.

Representantes do Brasil na Taça Libertadores, Cruzeiro, Vasco, Grêmio, Corinthians, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Santos e Chapecoense, já eliminada da competição, entram na disputa na fase atual, seguidos por América-MG, Luverdense e Bahia, respectivos campeões da Série B, Copa verde e Copa do Nordeste. A lista chega ao fim com os vencedores da quarta fase: Atlético-PR, Atlético-MG, Goiás e Ponte Preta.

Curiosamente, os confrontos são disputados entre equipes que já possuem ao menos uma taça da Copa do Brasil e os times que tentam o título inédito. Chapecoense e Atlético-MG foram os primeiros clubes sorteados e protagonizam o duelo de vices-estaduais. O atual campeão Cruzeiro, com conquistas em 1993, 1996, 2000, 2003 e 2017, tenta manter a coroa diante do Atlético-PR, que busca sua primeira taça do torneio. وتطرق إبراهيم حسن للحديث عن أداء الأهلي والزمالك في مبارة كل منهما بالجولة التاسعة من عمر الدوري: “كان واضحًا أن مستوى الفريقين سيء جدًا، الأمور اختلفت ورغم الإمكانيات القليلة جدًا للأندية في الفترات السابقة إلا أن اللاعبين كانوا يحاربون في لملعب، أما حاليًا في ظل الإمكانيات المادية الرهيبة والملاعب تغيير فكر اللاعبين”.

وأكد: “الجيل الحالي لا يعرف معنى البطولة، مَن ينافس على البطولة لا يليق أن يخسر نقطة، التعادل والخسارة حاليًا أصبح أمر عاديًا، مستوى القطبين ليس ثابتًا، وطموح وفكر اللاعبين تغيّر ويوجد (دلع)، اللاعب يأخذ أكثر من حجمه في الإعلام، الوضع والفكر اختلف”.

وتابع: “ظروف أكرم توفيق التي وضعته في مركز الظهير الأيمن رغم أنه ليس مركزه، تشبه ظروف أحمد فتحي، ولكن هل يعقل أن الأهلي بقطاع الناشئين والأكاديميات والمليارات التي تصرف غير قادر على تصعيد 20 ظهير أيمن؟”.

وواصل: “فكر وحماس أكرم توفيق يعرضه للاصابة، يجب أن تكون ذكيًا ولا تغامر في أي تدخل لأنك عائد من إصابة، غيابه سيكون مؤثرًا مع منتخب مصر والأهلي، وبديله محمد هاني يعاني من الضغط والهجوم عليه، يجب أن تعود له الثقة بمساندة الجماهير”.

وأشار: “الجماهير في الاستفتاءات تختار بنسبة 85% حسام حسن لتدريب منتخب مصر، هذا نبض الشارع لأنهم يفهمون، (في منتخب مصر بيدوا الفرصة لطوب الأرض إلا حسام حسن)، أريد أن أوجه سؤالًا للمسؤولين في الدولة، مسؤولي اتحاد الكرة يقولون لنا إن الدولة هي من تختار الجهاز الفني للمنتخب، ويقولون لنا نخشى أن يتولى حسام حسن قيادة المنتخب لأنه عصبي ومن الوارد أن يتسبب لنا في مشاكل دولية”.

وأضاف: “كيروش في نهائي كأس أمم إفريقيا كان يتشاجر مع مع الأجهزة الفنية والحكام والجماهير منذ بداية المباراة، أليست هذه عصبية؟ الروح والخوف على بلدك تسمى عصبية؟ جوزيه مورينيو ويورجن كلوب مع أنديتهما هل ما يفعلاه عصبية؟”.

وأتم: “مسؤولو اتحاد الكرة يقولون هذه توجيهات وقرار، فليرد علينا مسؤولي الدولة، وإذا كان هذا الكلام صحيحًا سنغلق الصفحة، الجيل الحالي في مصر يحتاج إلى مدير فني لديه قلب”.

وتمكن الأهلي من الفوز على بيراميدز، بثلاثية نظيفة، على استاد القاهرة الدولي، ضمن منافسات الجولة الـ 11 من بطولة الدوري المصري.

وقال كولر في المؤتمر الصحفي عقب المباراة: “نحن سعداء بالفوز على بيراميدز وكنا منظمين ووظفنا اللاعبين بشكل جيد”.

وتابع: “أعتقد أن استاد القاهرة أفضل ملعب داخل مصر، وأتمنى أن أستمر في اللعب عليه والإدارة وعدتني بذلك”.

وأكمل: “شعرت أن شادي حسين غير قادر على استكمال المباراة، ولذلك دفعت بمحمد شريف الذي قدم أداءً جيدًا وكان يتحرك بشكل مميز بين دفاع بيراميدز”.

وأكد: “الغرض من التدوير إراحة اللاعبين بسبب ضغط المباريات، حتى لا يتعرضون للإصابة كما حدث مع كريم فؤاد ولا نعرف موقفه، بخلاف أننا نعتمد على الضغط العالي ولا أستطيع الجزم بإمكانية تثبيت التشكيل من عدمه، هذا يحتاج مجهودًا مضاعفًا من اللاعبين”. 

وأوضح: “نعلم أن بيراميدز فريق قوي ولديه لاعبين على أعلى مستوى وتقدمنا في النتيجة بتصويبة رائعة من عمرو السولية، وكنا نغلق اللعب ونجعلهم يجرون خلف الكرة من أجل إرهاقهم، وفي الشوط الثاني كنا أكثر صلابة ومرت الأمور كما خططنا لها”.

 وأضاف: “كانت مباراة هامة حتى يدرك اللاعبون كيف ينتشرون داخل الملعب، وكيف يدافعون ولا يستقبلون أهدافًا، وهذه سمات الفرق الكبيرة”.

واختتم: “أرغب في مساعدة اللاعبين لتقديم أفضل كرة في المباريات، استطعنا تحقيق الفوز في الاختبارات الصعبة أمام الزمالك وبيراميدز، وهذا يمنحنا ثقة ويجعلنا نسير على الطريق الصحيح”.

ويتصدر الأهلي ترتيب جدول الدوري المصري الممتاز برصيد 27 نقطة، ويأتي الزمالك ثانيًا بـ 24 نقطة.
