Liverpool fans excited about Pedri link

A number of Liverpool fans are buzzing with the latest news revolving around Barcelona’s Pedri.

At only 18-years-old, Pedri has made 91 senior appearances at club level and has only missed three Spain games since making his debut in March earlier this year.

Jurgen Klopp was expected to bring in a midfielder replacement for Gini Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window but failed to do so with Ibrahima Konate the only incoming through the door.

Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are likely to be called upon when needed, but with both players carrying a track record of injuries, that area may prove to be difficult for Klopp this season.

According to Spanish reporter Eduardo Inda, [via Anfield Edition on Twitter], Liverpool are interested in signing Pedro and Klopp is ‘in love’ with the teenager.

The journalist has stated that the 2019/20 Premier League champions are willing to pay around £85.9million for Pedro, smashing the club’s previous transfer record.

India's sports minister not in favour of Pakistan tour

India’s sports minister, MS Gill, has said India should not tour Pakistan in the wake of the terror attacks in Mumbai. While voices on both sides of the border have lobbied for and against the tour, Gill’s statement is the first direct statement on the issue by a member of the Indian government.”Is it possible for one team to arrive in Mumbai and indulge in mass murder, and have another team go and play cricket in the winter afternoon sun at Lahore, immediately after?” Gill told . Sporting contact, he said, was meant to enhance friendship, and the cricket series was not a commercial drama to go ahead under the surveillance of thousands of security personnel. The final decision, as he pointed out, rests with the government.Gill’s Pakistan counterpart, Aftab Jilani, however, remains optimistic and said there “was a ray of hope” that the tour would go ahead. “Cricket has a huge popularity in both countries and it will help ease out the tension if the Indian cricket team tours Pakistan next month,” Jilani told .He, however, steered clear of Gill’s statement and was hopeful that Butt’s meeting with the BCCI and ICC officials would be constructive. “I can’t comment on what Mr. Gill has said, it’s his opinion,” he said. “But I am very hopeful that something positive will come out of Ijaz Butt’s meeting with officials of Indian cricket board.”The government of Pakistan does not want tension with India and if we play cricket with each other it will be a step in the right direction,” he said. “If India is not satisfied with the security situation [in Pakistan] there’s a possibility of playing the series at a neutral venue. In my opinion sports should move on and we should play at whatever place it’s possible.”The statements came on a day when PCB chairman Ijaz Butt had a meeting with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) officials and ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat in Chennai, with the hope of salvaging the series. However after the meeting, the ACC said the decision on whether India should tour Pakistan or not was a matter that should be sorted out by the two countries and that it had no say in the issue.Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni refused to comment on the issue and said the team’s focus was firmly on the two-Test series at home against England. “I don’t want say anything about it right now,” he said. “It is up to the government and the word has been sent across to the board. We still have time to decide whether to go or not. We are pre-occupied with the England series right now.”Saleem Altaf, the PCB’s chief operating officer, remained hopeful that the series would take place. “The situation was very tense back in 2004 and all the wrong signals were coming (from India),” he told the . “But diplomacy helped save that series and India toured Pakistan back then. I’m hopeful that it will happen again this time.”Sunil Gavaskar, the former Indian captain, had earlier echoed Gill’s sentiment, saying it will be “impossible” for India to tour Pakistan given the deterioration in political relations between the two countries following the Mumbai terror attacks.India are scheduled to tour Pakistan from January 6 to February 19 for three Tests, five ODIs and a Twenty20 international. However, doubts over the tour emerged after evidence linked some of the terrorists in the Mumbai attack to Pakistan.

Fans Can’t Write Off Coventry City Just Yet and Here’s Why

A new season of the EFL Championship presents new opportunities for either promotion and happiness or relegation and heartbreak. Coming off the back of Fulham’s fall from grace back into the Championship and Brentford’s overdue return to top-flight football, everyone’s wondering what the story of the 2021/2022 campaign will be. Will there be late drama? Will the promoted teams win by a landslide?Betting on the Premier League is one thing, but as teams spend more money on superstars, it almost becomes a given with regards toÂwhich teams will performÂwell. There hasn’t been an underdog story since Leicester’s run in the 2015/2016 season. The Championship draws its fair share of drama,Âas the seasons often pair with intense promotion and relegation battles, and showcase players whose previously unheard of or underappreciated talent shocks the nation. This year, theÂChampionship bettingÂcurrently has Fulham and West Brom withÂodds of 8/13Âand 4/6, respectively, to be promoted. However, bettors can’t ignore the start teams like Coventry City have had so far in this campaign. The 2021/22 Championship betting tipsÂpromisingly have Coventry priced at 12/5 for a top-six finish.

The Perfect Start

When theÂfailed Super LeagueÂwas announced, football fans were enraged. Not only was it a money-grabber, but the entire premise would have removed a crucial element of the game that fans love:Âthe romance.

There’s something special aboutÂunderdog stories, which is probably why the nation came together after Brentford’s shock win against Arsenal in August; as the Championship season kicks off, it looks like we could potentiallyÂhave another underdog story on our hands.

Coventry City, notorious for being slowÂin previous campaigns, has started the 2021/2022 season better than expected, with four wins out of their first six games.ÂOf course, it’s still early, and the run may not last. However, it’s evident the Sky Blues underdogs have clicked this season as established players like Jamie Allen and their summer signings such as Todd Kane and Simon Moore are all contributing.

New Players Making A Mark

Moore, especially, could prove vital to the success of Coventry City this season. After moving from Sheffield United, the 31-year-old goalkeeper has impressed City fans with his performances, particularly after his heroics in his sides’ 2-0 win against Middlesborough on September 11th. Moore was commanding in goal and pulled off an unbelievable triple save that earned him a spot in the EFL Championship Team of the Week.

There’s no doubt Moore has played a massive role in Coventry’s encouraging start to the season. Having a goalkeeper that’s both commanding and focused is crucial, especially when facing strikers like Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, who has odds of 2/1 to be the top goalscorer this season.

There will always be favourites amongst bettors and the 2021/2022 Championship season is no different. Justifiably, eyes are on Fulham and West Brom, two teams who were in the Premier League in the 2020/2021 season. As we saw with Norwich’s return this year, the teams that go down are often the ones that bounce back up. However, the Championship season has demonstrated that nothing is a guarantee and based on Coventry’s performance so far, there are more reasons to fear them than belittle them.

'It's an exaggerated revised figure' – Naghmi

Former chief operating officer of the PCB, Shafqat Naghmi, has said the renovation work at the Gaddafi Stadium may still be completed for Rs 184 million (around $2.3 million) and that the figure had not spiralled to Rs 471 million as the board claimed.

Cricinfo staff12-Jan-2009Former chief operating officer of the PCB, Shafqat Naghmi has hit back at claims of financial irregularities by the PCB, claiming that the renovation work at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium may still be completed for Rs 184 million (around $2.3 million). Naghmi said that the figure had not spiralled to Rs 471 million as the present board had earlier claimed. The PCB stopped work on the project at the stadium – which is also the cricket board’s headquarters – on Friday after they discovered “massive irregularities” in the construction of the far end pavilion. Further, the architect behind the project was also believed to be a “buddy” of Naghmi’s.”It’s true that the initial cost was Rs 142 million, but it was revised to Rs 184 million and not at what the PCB is now claiming,” Naghmi told . “It’s an exaggerated revised figure and I have no idea from where this has come.”The present PCB regime had termed the project as a “monumental disaster” and “fraudulent tender”, with chairman Ijaz Butt placing the blame fully on the men they replaced last August in a strongly-worded, no-holds barred statement.According to the PCB statement, the project had to be stopped after the cost more than tripled to Rs 471 million from an initial Rs 142 million. However, Naghmi said the PCB had paid the contractor Rs 142 million and now only Rs 42 million remained to be paid to complete the project. “I talked to the contractor today and even he is willing to complete the project, but I don’t know why the PCB has stopped the renovation work,” he said.
