As they look to push on towards promotion, Leeds United are now reportedly considering a move to sign an attacking boost who’s already got nine goals to his name this season.

Whilst they’re yet to get their January business underway, Leeds are in no position to panic at the top of the Championship and on course to earn promotion back to the Premier League at the second time of asking under Daniel Farke.

That’s not to say they haven’t been eyeing potential reinforcements, however. Names such as Emmanuel Latte Lath have already threatened to steal the headlines and may continue to do so as the window rolls on.

The Middlesbrough striker has been in top form in the current campaign and would offer Farke an ideal attacking boost to potentially replace Patrick Bamford and compete against Joel Piroe for a place in his strongest side for the remainder of the season.

Recruiting from a Championship rival won’t come cheap though and those at Elland Road have seemingly already thought about potential alternative options as a result this month.

According to Sky Sports, Leeds are now eyeing a move to sign Willem Geubbels on loan from Swiss side FC St. Gallen for the remainder of the campaign. In a move that could see them fend off any competition from fellow interested clubs West Bromwich Albion and Norwich City, the Whites may welcome a striker who’s far from shy in front of goal.

Still just 23 years old, Geubbels is yet to reach the peak of his powers but has already managed nine goals in just 23 games in all competitions for St. Gallen this season. Earning the interest of Leeds and the 49ers as a result this month, the forward could yet complete his return to the spotlight for the first time since leaving AS Monaco in 2023.

"Quick" Geubbels could be Leeds upgrade

Following an impressive breakthrough as a young player Lyon to earn a move to Monaco, Geubbels struggled to find his form and prove his plaudits right. And that looked set to be the same case at St. Gallen before he found his feet in the last two campaigns to such great success. Now, he may well have done enough to fight his way back to the big stage.

Dubbed “quick” and “creative” by The Rangers Journal at the start of last year, the Frenchman would undoubtedly be an upgrade on Bamford, who is yet to score or start in the current Championship campaign.

On loan, the 23-year-old is a player that Leeds could take a gamble on, especially as they push towards promotion and potential title success by the time May arrives.

واستطرد: “بدلاً من أن تحسب حساباتك وتدرك أن الفوز بهذه المباراة كان سيمنحك فرصة ذهبية، كما يفعل الأهلي الذي يفكر دائمًا في الفوز بمبارياته والتساهيل على لله، كان يجب أن تدرك أهمية الفوز، وكان الفوز سيضع المنافس تحت الضغط ويعيدك إلى دوري أبطال إفريقيا”.

وأضاف: “حتى عندما فاز الزمالك بالكونفدرالية، كان جمهوره سعيدًا، لكنه يعلم أن دوري الأبطال مختلف، لا يمكنك أن تعود بعد سنوات لتتحدث عن (نادي القرن) إذا لم تشارك أصلًا في البطولة التي تمنحك هذا التصنيف”.

وأوضح: “حتى المركز الثاني الذي كان يؤهل الزمالك لدوري الأبطال، والذي كان يحصل عليه في ظل هيمنة الأهلي بـ44 بطولة دوري، تم التفريط فيه بسهولة، ولكنني لا أهتم بالزمالك ولا بيراميدز، أنا أهتم بنفسي”.

وواصل: “الدوري يُحسم في الملعب، وكل نقطة تتطلب عرقًا ودمًا لتحقيق الفوز، حتى في مباراة مثل مواجهة البنك الأهلي، ونحن لا ننتظر هدايا من الآخرين، نحن على مقعد القيادة، وبالنسبة لجماهير الأهلي، أصبحت هذه البطولة مهمة جدًا”.

واختتم: “لا يمكن للأهلي أن ينهي الموسم صفر بطولات، ولم يتبقَ أمامنا سوى هذه البطولة، وحتى لو فزنا بالسوبر المصري، فهو لا يُضاهي أهمية الدوري أو دوري أبطال إفريقيا، ولذلك، مطلوب من لاعبي الأهلي بذل كل قطرة عرق ودم في مواجهة منافس شرس وقوي مثل البنك الأهلي”.

James Anderson has expressed his sadness at Trent Boult’s request to be released from his central contract to improve his availability to T20 leagues, and fears Test cricket will struggle in the changing landscape.Following conversations with New Zealand Cricket, Boult and the board agreed to a parting of ways that by no means ends the 33-year-old’s international career, but will see it significantly reduced. In lieu of regular appearances for the Blackcaps, his focus instead will be the franchise circuit, including two lucrative new additions in the UAE and South Africa.NZC chief executive David White told ESPNcricinfo he does not believe this will have a knock-on effect to others within the New Zealand set-up. However Anderson, who turned 40 last month and will pick up his 173rd cap in the first Test against South Africa on Wednesday, believes Boult’s decision is a seismic event given where cricket is headed. He expects more bowlers in particular to go down this path given the rewards on offer.Asked if he was saddened by Boult’s decision, Anderson admitted he was “because Test cricket will probably bear the brunt of it. The easiest thing to do for bowlers is bowl four overs or 20 balls. It takes nothing out of you. And if you’re getting paid just as well, it probably makes sense. It is a responsibility Anderson feels should not be ignored.”Even if we didn’t play this way, I still think Test cricket is an amazing format. We’ve had some brilliant series and matches, not just involving us and between other teams around the world that have been brilliant to watch. So I hope people will see that and want to be a part of it, growing up wanting to play Test cricket.”But, yes, 100 percent our job and responsibility as Test cricketers is to promote the game and encourage as many people as possible to watch it and play it when they get older.”

Liverpool now hold concrete interest in signing an “exceptional” £50m winger to replace Mohamed Salah this summer, with a report dropping a new update on the Egyptian’s future at Anfield.

Of course, every Liverpool fan will be hoping Salah extends his stay at Anfield beyond the end of the season, but it is by no means a guarantee, amid interest from the Saudi Pro League, meaning Arne Slot has started to assess potential replacements.

At one stage, Real Sociedad’s Takefusa Kubo was deemed the player most likely to replace the 32-year-old, with the Merseyside club said to be willing to make an offer of £42m to get a deal over the line.

Earlier in the January transfer window, the Reds also made an approach to sign AFC Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, offering the Cherries a player plus-cash deal involving Ben Doak.

Semenyo is not the only Premier League forward Slot is considering as a potential replacement for Salah, however, with TEAMtalk revealing there is concrete interest in Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo in light of the forward’s impressive performances this season.

There may be competition for Mbeumo’s signature, however, with Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United also very keen, and Liverpool’s interest is said to be intertwined with the situation surrounding Salah’s long-term future at Anfield.

If the forward decides to extend his stay on Merseyside, the Reds may choose to wait at least another window or two before pursuing a new right-winger, but if he chooses to move on this summer, they could step up their pursuit of the Brentford star.

With Neymar leaving Al-Hilal to sign for Santos, the Saudi Pro League side could push to sign Salah this summer, having identified him as their top target, as they want to replace the Brazilian with another big-name player.

The Cameroon international played a key role for the Bees in their rise from the Championship to the top flight, scoring 23 goals across two seasons in the second tier, and he has since gone on to prove himself as a top player in the Premier League.

This season has been the France-born winger’s most impressive by some way, having amassed 17 goal contributions in the Premier League, most recently finding the back of the net in Brentford’s 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace.

That said, the £50m-valued forward, who has been described as “exceptional” by members of the media, is yet to prove himself at the very highest level, and it would be a risk to bring him in to replace Salah.

All being well, the Liverpool talisman will commit to a new contract to secure his long-term future before the end of the season, as truth be told, it is extremely unlikely the Reds will be able to find any player capable of replicating his attacking numbers.

Everton won’t have spent long licking their wounds after being dumped out of the FA Cup by Bugbear opponents Bournemouth, for the Merseyside derby is merely one day away.

David Moyes has bigger fish to fry. Causality is a very real thing in football, and the truth is that Ademola Lookman would not be the same player that he is now had he never left Everton.

But the club’s conditions precluded him from doing so and had Moyes been at the helm instead, in a different world, Everton may have got so much more out of Atalanta’s trophy-winning sensation.

It was Everton who gave Lookman his first big break, paying £11m to Charlton Athletic to claim the then 19-year-old’s signature in January 2017.

Lookman, then lacking the potency and sharpness that he has crafted in recent years, managed to net just four goals for the Toffees, playing 48 times.

Still, a promising loan spell with RB Leipzig later prompted the German side to fork out £22.5m for the dynamic winger, who had failed to win over former manager Marco Silva. In hindsight, it was the wrong move, for Lookman now boasts elite status.

Remember, last summer Atalanta were understood to be open to cashing in on their Ballon d’Or nominee and had priced the Nigeria international at €70m (roughly £58m), which stands as a whopping £35m increase from the fee that Everton accepted to jettison him off to the Bundesliga.

He could have banked Everton quite the pretty penny or indeed plied his trade in Moyes’ team as their star man. Ndiaye is fantastic, full of life and energy, but he’s not on the 27-year-old’s level yet.

Indeed, while Lookman’s career highlight is rightly the hat-trick that won Atalanta the Europa League last season, he’s also been immensely consistent in front of goal, scoring 31 goals and supplying 17 assists across all competitions over the past two years, a whopping 31 more goal involvements than Ndiaye over the same time frame. Specifically, broadcaster Maximiliano Bretos hailed Lookman for his “monster year” of 2023/24.

Moreover, he’s not only a marksman. FBref record that he ranks among the top 1% of positional peers across Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for shot-creating actions and progressive carries and the top 2% for tackles per 90.

The full package, the winger attracted interest from the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain last year and is undoubtedly one of the finest former Everton stars currently kicking balls about today.

Duílio admitiu que o clube alvinegro vai tentar achar uma solução para o camisa 7, que ainda não jogou sob o comando de Vítor Pereira e está há mais de um ano sem balançar as redes. O meia tem contrato com o Corinthians atédezembro de 2023.

-Não é uma situação que nos agrada, e temos que tratar desses detalhes internamente com o atleta e com o seu empresário. Mas temos que achar uma solução agora na próxima janela: ou o Luan fica para ser aproveitado, ou a gente tem que arrumar outro caminho, até para o bem dele e da carreira dele. O tempo está passando e ele precisa jogar – afirmou.

Após a vitória por 1 a 0 contra o Atlético-GO, pela nona rodada do Brasileirão, Vítor Pereira revelou que o atleta foi cortado da partida em Goiânia por voltou a reclamar de dores no quadril, e completou dizendo que não é a primeira vez que isso acontece.

Amissão da diretoria corintiana é achar algum clube interessado no atleta na janela do meio do ano. O presidente do Timão explicou que não irá rescindir o contrato de Luan, e irá tentar achar a melhor solução para o jogador e clube.

-Vi alguns comentários, e o torcedor entende que ‘precisa tirar o Luan, mandar o Luan embora’. Não é assim, existe um contrato. Só para esclarecer: o Corinthians não vai mandar o Luan embora. Quando você faz um contrato com um atleta, se você rescindi-lo, tem que pagá-lo inteiro, 100% do que resta do valor, ao atleta, e vice-versa. Então, não é tão simples assim – explicou o mandatário.

– Lógico que trabalhamos no início do ano, enquanto a janela estava aberta. Alguns clubes tiveram interesse, e a gente imagina que pode ser bom para o Luan jogar. Lógico, queremos que ele jogue, que dê certo no Corinthians. Há alguns anos a gente vem trabalhando no dia a dia em cima disso. Mas também entendemos que, se ele não está indo bem aqui, é bom que saia para jogar em outro clube, se encontre, porque é um grande menino, um grande jogador – concluiu.

MAYCON

O camisa 5 está emprestado ao Timão até o final do ano, mas por uma cláusula no acordo, o atleta pode ser vendido peloShakhtar Donetsk, clube detentor dos direitos do meia, antes desse período.

O presidente do Corinthians reforçou que o clube alvinegro não tem porcentagem em uma possível venda de Maycon, e sim prioridade na compra. Ainda, Duílio disse que no final, o desejo do jogador é imperativo caso uma proposta chegue aos ucranianos.

-Ele [Maycon] tem um contrato com o Corinthians até o fim do ano de empréstimo. Pode ser vendido, não voltaria para o Shakhtar [Donetsk] porque temos esse contrato. Agora, se tiver uma proposta de compra de algum outro clube, o Corinthians teria a prioridade na compra. Isso significa que poderíamos igualar a proposta e comprar o jogador – comentou o presidente.

-Fora isso, o Corinthians não tem nenhuma taxa de vitrine. Não temos controle da situação se o jogador fica até o fim do ano ou não. É bom deixar claro, também, que a vontade do atleta, em uma situação dessas, sempre pesa muito. Ele só vai para onde quiser, então temos que aguardar a janela de transferência e ver se vai surgir alguma proposta, para que possamos dar sequência e ver qual caminho vamos seguir – concluiu Duílio.

BRUNO MÉNDEZ

O empréstimo do zagueiro uruguaio ao Internacional acaba no dia 30 de junho. Duílio disse que o Inter fez uma proposta insatisfatória para adquirir em definitivo o defensor, mas admitiu a possibilidade dele permanecer no Rio Grande do Sul.

O Corinthians colocou uma opção de compra de 6 milhões de dólares (R$ 29 mi) por 50% dos direitos pelo zagueiro, mas está disposto a negociar essa quantia com o Colorado, pois entende que o preço é elevado para se cobrar de um jogador de defesa.

– Ele se adaptou bem, tem gostado do Internacional e da cidade de Porto Alegre. Existe um valor no contrato, fixado, por 50% dos direitos. Eles mandaram uma primeira proposta que, para mim, não fazia nenhum sentido, e o Corinthians parou as negociações. Mas a gente tem conversado, eles têm demonstrado interesse, falado em melhorar a proposta. Imagino que, nos próximos dias, teremos uma solução: ou ele volta, ou o Inter faz a compra, mas desde que seja uma coisa muito boa para o Corinthians – comentou.

-O Corinthians não vai aceitar uma proposta só porque ele fez [sete jogos] ou não. Seria muito ruim para o Corinthians, o Internacional e o atleta: teria que retornar ao clube e não jogaria o Campeonato Brasileiro. Isso não faz nenhum sentido. A gente espera que essa negociação se encerre o mais rápido possível – finalizou Duílio sobre Bruno Méndez.

RETORNO DOS EMPRESTADOS E REFORÇOS

O Corinthians tem três jogadores emprestados que estão prestes a retornar ao clube. O Apoel, do Chipre, decidiu não realizar a compra em definitivo de Léo Natel, que já se despediu do clube europeu e será analisado pela comissão técnica corintiana.

No final de junho, Ramiro, cedido aoAl Wasl, dos Emirados Árabes Unidos, eMateus Vital, emprestado aoPanathinaikos, também retornarão ao Parque São Jorge e passarão pelo crivo de Vítor Pereira para serem utilizados ou negociados.

-A nossa comissão técnica está analisando se vamos utilizá-los ou não. Nossa diretoria de futebol também está trabalhando com propostas e sondagens para a gente definir, em um futuro próximo, o destino de todos – disse Duilio.

Sobre reforços, o presidente do Corinthians disse que o clube pode buscar “duas ou três peças” nesta janela de transferências.

-Lógico que todo mundo quer melhorar o elenco, mas também temos limitações financeiras. E temos um grande time. Existe a necessidade de duas ou três peças, não é uma lista muito grande. O Vítor está satisfeito, mas são três competições, acaba precisando. Se trouxer, é uma questão de um ou outro reforço ou reposição se tiver alguma venda.

SAÍDAS

O presidente do Timão também falou sobre a possibilidade perder jogadores para o mercado europeu nesta janela. O nome mais cotado para sair do Corinthians é João Victor.

Benfica e Porto, ambos de Portugal procuraram o Timão pelo zagueiro de 23 anos. O clube alvinegro aceita vendê-lo por R$ 51 milhões.

– Qualquer jogador pode deixar o Corinthians. Não é a nossa intenção, a gente sabe que o Corinthians, assim como o futebol brasileiro em geral, precisa também da receita de venda de jogadores. Mas temos trabalhado muito para precisar cada vez menos dessas receitas. Se a gente ver que são realmente propostas muito boas, a vontade do atleta for de sair e conseguirmos repor, pode ser que saiam poucos, imagino que três atletas no máximo”, concluiu Duilio.

RELAÇÃO DE VÍTOR PEREIRA COM RÓGER GUEDES

Por fim, Duílio Monteiro Alves tratou de minimizar o atrito recente entre o treinador Vítor Pereira e Róger Guedes.

-O falatório é mais externo do que interno. Ele é um grande jogador, um menino do bem, não cria problema, não tem problema com o Vítor. Lógico que fica insatisfeito quando não joga e quer jogar. Acabamos de falar sobre o Luan. O Róger quer jogar e fica chateado quando fica no banco. É essa a postura que queremos dos jogadores do Corinthians. É uma questão de adaptação, o treinador está há três meses aqui, vai conhecendo as características. Nunca existiu nada além de um treinador não escalar um jogador. Isso é normal no futebol. Vida que segue, nunca tivemos que ter um atenção especial nisso. Só a tristeza (do Róger) de sair jogando ou não ou de ser substituído – finalizou o presidente do Corinthians.
